Web Animation / Mario's Madness x Sonic.EXE

Go To

Mario's Madness x Sonic.EXE is a mini-series of animations created by Jeremiah Calhoun. Said animations feature the respective casts of the Mario's Madness and Vs. Sonic.EXE mods for Friday Night Funkin' getting split into numerous teams and participating in different reality show-style challenges. The series was short lived, as only three episodes have been done, the first being a Prison Escape challenge, the second a game of Capture The Flag, and the third a Cook-Off. This series is unlikely to ever make a comeback, as the creator announced that he will no longer create EXE-related content following the toxicity and drama that resulted from it, and the only characters from said series he will be keeping on his channel are GB and Fleetway Super Sonic, with Sunky .MPEG, and Sanic .exe being replaced by their non exe counterparts.

Playlist can be found here.

Tropes:

  • Adapted Out: Despite being a series inspired by two Friday Night Funkin' mods, Boyfriend and Girlfriend are nowhere to be seen.
  • Arch-Enemy: Fleetway Super Sonic and Racist Mario to each other.
  • Ax-Crazy: Secret History Tails, as usual. The final challenge of the Prison Escape has the teams run for the finish line while he chases after them with a chainsaw.
  • Berserk Button:
    • As Capture The Flag reveals, EXE doesn't like to be reminded about his creator/"mother", Revie_03, as not too long after Lord X makes a Your Mom joke to him, he snaps and transforms.
    • From the same episode, Majin Sonic seems to not like people making naughty comments about Lord X, as when Coldsteel is about to make a joke about Lord X's rear, he's quick to silence him.
Coldsteel: So I know I'm supposed to be a professional heterosexual, but hear me out... Lord X has a DUMPTRU-
    Majin Sonic: YOU'RE DONE TALKING.
  • Birds of a Feather:
    • In Capture The Flag, Fatal Error extends an offer of friendship to Wario Apparition over them both being types of errors. Wario accepts, and them being teammates in the Cook-Off is likely due to said friendship.
    • In Cook-Off, Racist Mario and Fleetway Super Sonic, who spent the majority of their screentime being at each others' throats, find common ground in their mutual hatred for their teammates (Racist Mario's hatred stemming from his racism towards non-Nintendo characters and Fleetway Super Sonic's hatred stemming from having major disdain for any version of Sonic.Exe), and manage to put their squabbling aside for the rest of the challenge.
  • The Cameo:
    • Sonic.OMW and Exetior, Sonic.Exe's counterpart from Sonic.exe: Nightmare Beginning, appear in the Capture The Flag episode as part of the audience. Particularly notable about Exetior's cameo is that he's not part of the Vs. Sonic.Exe mod, and while he was planned on getting added at one point, he never got past the concept phase, which is partially lampshaded when Luther says he didn't expect him to show up. Exetior simply says he wouldn't miss the reunion "for the world".
    • Sally_ALT appears as an audience member in Capture The Flag and as the judge of the desserts in the Cook-Off. In Capture The Flag, she's shown rooting for Sonic.Exe, when ironically her original counterpart hates ''all'' versions of Sonic.
    • Secret History Mario is the judge of the dinners in the Cook-Off.
    • Starved appears in the Cook-Off, bearing the role of the one who will eat any of the dishes the main judges don't like. He only appears for one scene.
  • Catchphrase: "Now with no further delay, let's begin." is one for Soul Tails when announcing the start of a challenge.
  • Color-Coded Multiplayer: Every player wears a circle that matches their team color (Red circles for Team Red, Blue circles for Team Blue, etc.)
  • Cordon Bleugh Chef: EXE is this in the Cook-Off, as he uses a gummy kebab in his smoothie, and blends the stick used for the kebab, leading to his dish getting a 6/10.
  • Decomposite Character: Mario.Exe and GB are two separate characters in this series, unlike their home mod where they were two different forms of the same person. This is because Tails cloned them.
  • The Dog Bites Back: After spending the majority of the Capture The Flag episode getting teased about his feelings towards NeedleM0use and getting trampled by the enemy team, EXE finally has enough when Lord X makes a jab at his creator, leading him to transform, and from there, he overpowers the enemy team and scores the winning point for his own team.
EXE: There! I did it! I. CAN'T. BE. STOPPED!
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: In his debut appearance in the Capture The Flag episode, Fatal Error was properly voice acted instead of being Text-To-Speech. From Cook-Off onwards, his voice is Text-To-Speech.
  • The Eeyore: Beta Luigi, still greiving over losing his version of Mario after all this time. He's always slumped over, being too depressed to attempt to participate in the games, and never says a word.
  • Even Bad Men Love Their Mamas:
    • As GB finishes his basted steak, he comments on how it's "Just like mama used to make."
    • Inverted with EXE, who is disgusted and traumatized by his creator so much, that speaking of her is a Berserk Button for him.
  • Even Evil Has Standards:
    • In Capture The Flag, when Fleetway Super Sonic states that he intends to take the flag from Beta Luigi, Racist Mario is appalled and calls the former out for "taking advantage of a man with severe depression", but Super Sonic retorts that Racist Mario isn't any better himself, since he abuses his version of Peach.
    • From the same episode, Fleetway doesn't approve of Coldsteel's Bottom of the Barrel Joke and is quick to Dope Slap him in order to shut him up. He even admits that he has controversial opinions himself, but still has standards.
    • Also in the same episode and crossed with Berserk Button, EXE completely lost it when Lord X made a Your Mom joke towards his creator, Revie_03, referencing the controversial events that led to her being kicked off the Vs Sonic.exe team and EXE's own subsequent removal from the mod as a consequence.
    • From the Cook-Off, Sonic.Exe and Griatos are temporarily shocked by Mario.Exe's dish of choice being Koopa Troopa Legs, with Sonic.Exe even feeling bad for the Koopas. Downplayed in that they let him cook and serve the legs to the judge.
  • Fantastic Racism: As usual, Racist Mario shows zero compassion towards non-Nintendo characters, and yet he's ironically always on a team with said non-Nintendo characters.
  • Foil: Demogri and Griatos to each other. While they're labelled as a "Troublemaking Duo", Griatos is clearly the more aggressive of the two. When Lord X suggests teasing EXE about their interaction with NeedleM0use, Griatos happily accepts while Demogri questions the suggestion, and when the two of them attempt to stop EXE from scoring the winning point for his team, Griatos aggressively tells EXE to "Get back here!" while Demogri can only say "No! Wait!".
  • Friendly Rivalry: Mario.Exe and Sonic.Exe, much like the original Mario and Sonic. The Cook-Off has them drop the rivalry aspect due to them being teammates.
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Coldsteel, seeing how no one has anything nice to say about him. Fleetway Super Sonic in particular seems to hate him the most, questioning what is wrong with him, and even getting physical to shut him up.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: In the first round of Capture The Flag, MX tackles EXE, saying "Outta my way, chump!". In the final round, EXE does the same to MX, saying "Outta my way, fatty!"
  • The Host: Soul Tails serves as this for each episode. Soul Knuckles and Soul Robotnik co-host alongside him.
  • Irony: MX, who is known for chasing down his victims, ends up being the one who gets chased when it's revealed that the last challenge of the Prison Escape is to run to the finish line whilst being pursued by Secret History Tails. To the same extent, this also goes for Lord X.
  • Jerkass: A lot of the characters have their moments of being this, but special mention goes to Fleetway Super Sonic, Rascist Mario, and Coldsteel the Hedgehog. They're generally insufferable for the others to be around, especially the last one.
  • Lethal Chef:
    • Subverted with Lord X. His idea of a dish is a Tails Corpse. Although Demogri thinks it's a stupid idea, Lord X goes through with it, and seems to actually know how to make it taste good, as his dish gets a 7/10 from the judge.
    • Played Straight with Coldsteel. He decides to wrap lasagna in aluminum foil before putting that in the microwave. As a result, the lasagna is completely burnt, but he serves it anyway. Unsurprisingly, his dish is the only one to get a score of 0.
  • Nice Guy: Majin Sonic always encourages fair play and for everyone to have fun.
  • No Fair Cheating: Soul Tails gives out restrictions for the Prison Escape, one of them prohibitng teleportation, as it would make escaping the cells and reaching the finish line too easy. The players abide by this restriction, with no one ever attempting to teleport.
  • One-Winged Angel: Exploited during the prison escape episode. One of the restrictions is that if a contestant transforms out of anger, they have to stay in that form for the rest of the game. Unfortunately, this comes to bite EXE after he gets too angry.
  • Running Gag:
    • Wario Apparition being a Flying Face is lampshaded in every episode. In Prison Escape, he somehow needs to use the toilet after too much garlic even though he doesn't have a butt, in Capture The Flag, I HATE YOU Luigi wonders how Wario's meant to tag the other players without hands, to which Wario says he'll just headbutt them, and in Cook-Off, Wario points out that due to just being a head, he can't cook, though I HATE YOU Luigi reminds him that due to his nature as an anti-piracy subject, he can spawn minions for assistance, and said minions can do the cooking for him.
    • Another running gag is a character getting hit by a toaster, most notably in Cook-Off, where Coldsteel is hit with a toaster after claiming that Racist Mario and Fleetway Super Sonic "look so cute together" and EXE gets hit with a toaster by MX after he complains about having to share his team's win with MX's team.
    • Twice per episode, a character's sole response to something is a little "dang". In Prison Escape, it's GB's response after Soul Knuckles locks the teams' cells, and later I HATE YOU Luigi's response to Team Green winning; in Capture The Flag, it's GB's response after whatever it was Sonic.Exe did to him for talking back against Sonic.Exe's decision to trade him with Tails Doll, and later Demogri's response to EXE scoring the winning point for Team Blue; and in Cook-Off, it's Sonic.Exe's response to Mario.Exe's dish of choice being Koopa Troopa legs and later Soul Robotnik's response to Fleetway Super Sonic revealing that he spat in one of the biscuits, which the former had given a perfect score.
Fleetway Super Sonic: You gave my spit a 10 out of 10! Ha ha!
  • The Speechless: Tails Doll, due to being a doll.
  • Supreme Chef: While the majority of the cast is shown to be decent chefs in the Cook-Off episode, the standouts amongst the bunch are GB, I HATE YOU Luigi, NeedleM0use, Fleetway Super Sonic, Tails Doll and Sonic.Exe, as their dishes get perfect scores.
  • Take That!: In "Cook-Off", Coldsteel plays the the beta version of Welcome (which doubles as a Mythology Gag, as Coldsteel's song "Personel" takes a Leitmotif from the song), which is unsurprisingly not popular with everyone else on his team.
  • Tampering with Food and Drink: Downplayed non-lethal example from the Cook-Off: Sanic.Exe's dish for the lunch judge is a sub sandwich "With a twist", the "twist" being that he snuck edible marijuana into the sandwich. While EXE explicitly tells him not to feed the judge edibles, Sanic goes through with it anyway. The judge gives his sandwich a 7/10, but also sends Sanic's team a note saying that the sandwich "ain't hittin'".
  • Third-Person Person: Wario Apparition tends to use his name instead of "me" or "I".
  • Those Two Guys: EXE with Sanic.Exe and GB, Lord X with MX and to a lesser extent Majin Sonic, Wario Apparition with I HATE YOU Luigi and later on with Fatal Error.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Coldsteel in the Cook-Off episode. What better term to describe someone who wraps lasagna in aluminum foil before putting it in the microwave?
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Cereal for Sunky.MPEG and Garlic for Wario Apparition. Unsurprisingly, their dishes of choice for the Cook-Off are cereal and garlic soup respectively.
  • Trauma Button: "Cupcakes" apparently is this for EXE, as after NeedleM0use makes cupcakes her choice for the dessert, he has a moment reliving a bad memory involving his creator due to an Association Fallacy created from a few degrees of separation (Cupcakes—>EDP445–>Pedophilia—>Grooming—>Revie_03).
  • Vocal Dissonance: Soul Tails' voice actor doesn't attempt to sound like a child at all.
  • The Voiceless: Beta Luigi never says a word, spending every moment he's onscreen quietly sitting in his eternal slump. So far, Sally_ALT, Secret History Mario, and Starved have also yet to speak.

Coldsteel

Really, Coldsteel? ALUMINUM FOIL in a MICROWAVE?! Tails even points out how unnecessarily stupid it was, and Mario .exe is surprised his team didn't get disqualified.

How well does it match the trope?
