It's been pointed out many times that Phoebe is quite similar to Calvin, and the strip itself is a Spiritual Successor to Calvin and Hobbes. So the idea that Calvin grew up and had a kid of his own who had similar adventures to him is quite heartwarming.- Jossed: Their names are Ethan and Emily.

I know this sounds far-fetched, but Phoebe has described Dakota as a "frenemy", Dana is very supportive of the LGBT+ community (being trans herself), and works aimed at children are starting to become more accepting of same-sex couples, so you never know. Shortly after befriending Phoebe, Marigold used her unicorn magic to create a time loop so that Phoebe would be nine years old forever. She knew that she was immortal and Phoebe wasn't, so she decided to avert Time Dissonance so she could be friends with Phoebe as long as possible. Unicorns in this universe are omnivores, or at least evolved from omnivorous ancestors.

, when Marigold is doing her flehmen response, you can clearly see that her lower teeth are pointed. Also, in this strip, Marigold can be seen eating what appears to be a hamburger. Unicorns and Shinigami are related species.
The Shinigami (of Death Note) live in an ancient, cavern-like world that is barren except for the Shinigami. The Unicorns live in a colorful world full of life. It is shown that Unicorn names describe the individual traits of the Unicorn. Marigold is shown to enjoy apples, similarly to Ryuk. Now, here's where the explaining is. Shinigami give the power of Death through a material object. Unicorns give the power of life. This is how Phoebe has managed to prolong her life by continuously reliving the same year over and over.Predictions for the upcoming Nickelodeon adaptation.
Dana has confirmed in this interview that as of early 2022, the plan is to release a movie followed by a series, which is still in the script phase. Other than that, she has little knowledge of what is planned, and doesn't even know if the film will be 2D or CGI (though she would prefer 2D). Put your guesses below.- If it's 2D-animated, the series might be a Genre Throwback to the Bill Meléndez Peanuts and Garfield specials, complete with a similar animation style and music.
- It's possible that the film won't be (fully) animated, instead being mostly live-action with a realistic CGI Marigold.
- Jane Krakowski may voice Marigold, as Dana has confirmed in interviews that is the voice she pictures.

Dana has admitted she doesn't want the strip to go on forever and wants to end it eventually (though thankfully not anytime soon), though she doesn't have any specific ideas as to how it will end. Some ideas:- The final strip will be a simple And the Adventure Continues ending, much like Calvin and Hobbes did.
- Ninety years in the future, an elderly Phoebe will celebrate her 100th birthday, before dying of old age with Marigold by her side. Marigold will then befriend one of Phoebe's great-grandchildren.
- After only partially turning Phoebe into a unicorn in previous strips (such as giving her a unicorn tail or muzzle), Marigold will turn Phoebe completely into a unicorn so they can be friends forever, and so that Phoebe can get with Ferny.
