Redungeon is a Roguelike/Endless Running Game hybrid for iOS, developed by Eneminds and published by Nitrome on June 22nd, 2016.

The game is simply about going through procedurally generated dungeon corridor full of traps in the only available direction and pick up as many coins as you can, up until your luck runs out and something finally gets you. What makes it really stand out is the wide selection of 12 unlockable characters, each with a distinct theme and a set of abilities.

This game provides examples of:

  • Advancing Wall of Doom: The game doesn't automatically scroll like most endless runners. However, spending too long on a screen without advancing results in the lower border of the screen catching up to you and a monster immediately slaying your character.
  • Artificial Limbs: Nathaniel has an artificial left arm made out of brass.
  • Attack Drone: Nathaniel has two small round brass drones that hover with a single helicopter blade and will atuomatically destroy any traps they encounter with short-range lasers.
  • Blob Monster: Green slimes are a basic enemy in the dungeons. They are completely blind and will only patrol a set route, ignoring the player even if they are right next to them.
  • Bottomless Pits: Every pit in the game, and there are a lot of them. These pits are also the only thing that ignores the spare skulls of Ribb the skeleton and destroys him outright. On the flip side, the vampire character Duke Kazhan will automatically transform himself into a bat and fly to a safe spot if he falls into one, but he can only do it twice per run.
  • Bullet Time: The main power of a wizard named Aether is to slow time down.
  • Cast From Hitpoints: Panic Bot's panic laser is powerful, but consumes his battery life,
  • Cast from Money: Pirate captain Bragg has a blackpowder pistol, but shooting it costs him 15 coins. A successful kill will restore 20, however. The pistol will destroy traps, too, but that doesn't count as a kill.
  • Classical Movie Vampire: Duke Kazhan is drawn as one. All his abilities are to do with bats: he can briefly transform into one at a time of player's choice (5 seconds of flight, 15-second cooldown), and will do so automatically if he falls into a pit (though this only works twice a run.) Moreover, he'll never be attacked by the dungeon's bats.
  • Dem Bones: Ribb the skeleton is a playable character. He has no special abilities, but he does carry four spare skulls, which amounts to four extra lives, making him even more of a Boring, but Practical character than the starting Sir Gylbard. The only thing that can kill him instantly is falling into a pit.
  • Die, Chair, Die!: You can break vases to get more loot.
  • Everything Is Trying to Kill You: Pretty much every object on the screen that didn't come into the dungeon with your character is there to try and kill them, unless they happen to be immune to it. Even chests have a chance to house flying skulls instead of loot.
  • Fantasy Kitchen Sink: The playable characters include a knight, a wizard, a medusa, a golem, a skeleton, a scarecrow, a pirate with a parrot and a pistol, a steampunk inventor, and a robot.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: Nathaniel is very much an example with heavy Steampunk aesthetic, having replaced his left arm with a brass claw, wielding a wrench in his right, and wearing a monocle with heavy magnification on his left eye. Most importantly, he enters the dungeon with a pair of brass drones that will outright destroy any traps they see with their lasers.
  • Golem: One of the playable characters, named R1K. Due to being made out of lava and stone, he is completely immune to both the flame traps and the crushing pistons.
  • Glowing Eyes: There are skeleton statues with glowing blue eyes who stand on platforms out of your reach, and regularly poke at the floor tiles of a single-width corridor with their halberds. They won't harm Meduza, though.
    • Meduza's own eyes glow deep green. Same goes for Ribb the skeleton. R1K, a golem character, has glowing orange eyes, while Lord Kazhan's eyes glow pinkish-purple.
  • Magnetism Manipulation: Ichitaka automatically attracts any nearby coins, and has an active ability that instantly pulls in all the treasure on the screen.
  • No Plot? No Problem!: The game may have a bunch of distinct, named characters, but there's no story connecting them or explaining why they went into the dungeon.
  • Inexplicable Treasure Chests: Present. However, they may sometimes contain evil floating skulls instead of coins. Playing as Ichitaka and activating his coin-magnet power will instantly kill such mimics, however.
    • Captain Bragg loves treasure so much, that he will encounter skeleton keys in the dungeon that no other character would ever see, and can then use them to unlock special chests that again do not exist for anyone else.
  • Joke Character: Panic Bot is the last character you'll unlock, but it is so impractical due to its limited battery that unlocking him is less of a reward, and more of a way to get additional challenge for the veteran players.
  • Knightly Sword and Shield: The equipment of Sir Gylbard. He is able to immediately cut down everything that's three meters in front of him with a mighty sword thrust (which recharges every 10 seconds), while the shield offers automatic protection against most hazards.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: Sir Gylbard's shield will protect him from any danger besides moving walls, electricity and fire. However, it only works three times per run.
  • One Hitpoint Wonder: Every character dies in one successful hit from any source that they are not explicitly immune to. The only exception is Ribb the skeleton, who carries spare skulls which act as extra lives (though they don't protect from falling into the pits.) Sir Gylbard at least has his shield to stave off three hits, while R1K can generate a flame shield that staves off one hit, an indefinite number of times throughout the run, although it requires collecting special enchanted flames first. Meduza can simply reassemble herself from the snakes that compose her body if the player manages to correctly swipe the revival pattern 3 times, which gives her the potential for the longest runs.
  • Pirate Parrot: Captain Bragg has a green parrot named Gem. However, he is always trapped in a cage by the time you enter the dungeon. If you manage to find him, he'll fly near you and double the amount of coins you earn, but will soon fly too far and get trapped elsewhere again, potentially creating an indefinite cycle of rescues.
  • Playing with Fire: R1K the golem is partly made of lava, and so he's not just immune to the flame traps, but will outright absorb them, which lets him eventually lets him generate fire shield to protect himself - or blow it up as a huge fireball!
  • Resurrective Immortality: When Medusa is hit by something, she falls apart into individual snakes, and the player is present with 3 randomly chosen (but progressively harder) patterns to swipe on their screen. Players who have mastered these swipe patterns can keep her going for hours, and have the videos to back it up.
  • Scary Scarecrows: Creep-a-Crow is a scarecrow character with a watermelon head. His special ability is to literally scare all the enemies on the screen away from him. He's also constantly pogo-jumping, and so is able to automatically cross one-tile gaps, and doesn't get slowed down by the tiles covered in spiderwebs.
  • Shock and Awe: There are electric pylons that'll have lightning arc between them at regular intervals. This ignores the protection of Gylbard's shield. On the other hand, Panic Bot straight-up needs to absorb electricity from these pylons to avoid ingloriously shutting down from the lack of power.
  • Smashing Hallway Traps of Doom: Your character will regularly have to navigate through these - often with an enemy on their tail as well! R1K the golem is immune to these traps, though.
  • Spikes of Doom: Spike beds that extend and retract every other second are a stock trap in the dungeon layouts.
  • Temporary Platform: There are some cracked stone blocks that'll shatter soon after your character steps on them.
  • Violation of Common Sense: R1K the golem is sturdy enough to be immune to the crushing pistons. However, all the other obstacles are still immediately lethal to him, including those that would logically be much less destructive than a piston, like a bolt from a crossbow turret, a set of spikes popping up from the floor, or even a bat running into him!
