Red Dwarf XII: The Game is a mobile game released by Games Digits that was released in 2017 during the 12th Series of Red Dwarf. This game is a free-to-play model, with all characters being capable of being unlocked without spending anything. There are three modes: "Quick Play" is an Endless Running Game where you maneuver your character past enemies, "Explore Mode" is a Shoot 'Em Up where you must save ships in distress from threats in deep space, and "Quiz Mode" is Exactly What It Says on the Tin.

The game was eventually pulled from the app store in 2019.

Tropes in this Game:

  • As Himself: One of the playable characters is Ray Peacock, who is an actual person who has assisted in the production of Red Dwarf (mainly serving as the warm-up for the Studio Audience).
  • Asteroid Thicket: One of the potential threats that a ship in distress can suffer from in "Explore Mode" are asteroids slamming down upon them, although they're fairly easy compared to some of the other threats, like GELF fleets.
  • Distress Call: An important part of the "Explore Mode" minigame, where Starbug has to locate ships putting off a distress call and help them escape. Typically, the threat is either an Asteroid Thicket, or a Gelf fleet trying to destroy them.
  • Endless Running Game: Quick Play involves your character of choice running down endless corridors, with the exact environment changing depending on your character.
  • Energy Weapon: Starbug seems to be equipped with some of these, which allows them to take down threats attacking ships in distress. It's a trait shared by the GELF fleets as well.
  • Hyperspeed Escape: As part of "Explore Mode", Starbug must hold back a threat long enough that the ship in distress can build up to light-speed and escape from that sector of space.
  • Mecha-Mooks: In "Quick Play", one of the possible threats that the player can face are the Mercenoids (a species of robotic bounty hunters first introduced in "Can of Worms").
  • Negative Space Wedgie: In "Explore Mode", Starbug comes across "temporal space deformations", which look like rings in pace (although all they do is act as a Nitro Boost).
  • Nitro Boost: In "Explore Mode" it is possible to speed up Starbug by going through hoops in space (Explained in-game to be "temporal space deformations").
  • Pop Quiz: "Quiz Mode" is a minigame that asks the player questions relating to the parent show.
  • Secret Character: At the start of the game, you start out as only one character, Dave Lister. The rest, you have to unlock by getting enough points through the minigames to do so.
  • Title: The Adaptation: Red Dwarf XII: The Game.
  • Unlockable Content: When you first start the game, you can only play as Dave Lister. However, as you keep playing, it is possible to unlock more characters, as well as unlock quotes and images from the series.
