NuSky looking at her sheer enemy

NuSky + Skyverse is a Friday Night Funkin' mod created by kitsuneskulls, bbpanzu and 01Alexander10. It focuses on an alternate version of Sky named NuSky, who faces off with Boyfriend in a typical Friday Night Funkin' rap battle, before she goes on to rap with other Skys across the "Skyverse".

The demo released on April 8th to celebrate the anniversary of the original Sky mod. While an update was planned to include more versions of Sky, bbpanzu cancelled the update after allegations against kitsuneskulls arose. However, 01Alexander10 planned to continue the mod alone, having been given permission by bbpanzu to use what was intended for the previously cancelled update, thus allowing development to continue. NuSky would've been replaced by CuSky, but that changed once again to OGSky after CuSky (Now Collin) became separated from the Skyverse, and after all that the mod was completely cancelled due to overwhelming pressure... That is until it was announced on April 1st, 2023 that the mod being worked on again, and will return under the name of "Skyverse".

An unofficial reboot of this mod called Trusky + Skyverse, made by Dismissor, replaces NuSky with Trusky, Dismissor's own Sky variant (originally; she's now her own character per se). The reboot also adds new songs with other Skies that were meant to be in the original mod, plus a part C DLC, which includes a song called "Sheer Enemies", and has Trusky battling NuSky. Unfortunately, the mod also got cancelled due to lack of motivation. The mod's download link is also private due to Dimissor not being happy with it.

Trusky, BlueSky and Miko also appears in another VS Sky anniversary mod, Sky Remanifested.

NuSky + Skyverse and Trusky + Skyverse provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Sexuality: While the original Sky was attracted to Boyfriend, NuSky is attracted to Girlfriend and hates Boyfriend.
  • All Women Are Lustful: Applies for Skyblue. In contrast to most Skys who are usually just into Boyfriend, Skyblue has her eyes set on anyone in the y-chromosome. Boyfriend just happens to be someone who really gets her going specifically.
  • Big Beautiful Woman: Skyblue has a prominent gut and thick thighs, thanks to the absurd amount of Pepsi she drinks.
  • Black Bead Eyes: Boyfriend and Girlfriend sport these as par the course for them. NuSky and Trusky's eyes are styled this way as well in the "Skyverse" songs.
  • Cute Kitten: Rami, Sarusky's cat. He even joins in on the singing towards the end of "Star", getting his own verse.
  • Decoy Protagonist: Boyfriend is only playable in the main week. "Wife Whenever" has you play as Girlfriend and the Skyverse songs have you play as, depending on the mod, either NuSky or Trusky.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: While canonically all Skys are friends with one another, "Blue" implies it didn't start out this way with NuSky and Skyblue, as it first they look unhappy at one another, but as the song progresses they eventually warm up to each other.
  • Demoted to Extra: NuSky's only appearance in the Trusky reboot is in the Part C DLC's exclusive song, "Sheer Enemies".
  • Distressed Dude: Boyfriend is captured by Sky in "Wife Whenever", with Girlfriend challenging the latter to save him.
  • Don't Celebrate Just Yet: Villainous example. After constantly getting interrupted by Boyfriend throughout "Buffer", NuSky siezes the chance to interrupt him after Girlfriend scolds him on it, and ends her verse with a confident Mic Drop, only for Boyfriend to resume singing. Any surprise for the player about the song not being over is averted if they have the song position-tracking bar enabled, revealing that there's still 40 seconds left to the song when NuSky drops the mic.
  • Flipping the Bird: Ski does this partway during "Dandelion".
  • Foil: NuSky is this to the original Sky. While the original Sky has a crush on Boyfriend and hates Girlfriend, NuSky has a crush on Girlfriend and hates Boyfriend.
  • Hiding Behind Your Bangs: NuSky's left eye is obscured by her hair in the main week. Not the case in the "Skyverse" songs, in which it appears over her hair. Same goes with Trusky.
  • Kindhearted Cat Lover: Downplayed with Sarusky, as though she owns a cat named Rami, she likes to annoy people, but hates when people annoy her, but she's still friends with the other Skys and sincerely thanks NuSky for finding Rami. NuSky also isn't as kindhearted (At least towards Boyfriend), but likes cats as well, as "Star" begins with her gushing over Rami.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Skyblue fits this role to a T, with her having a Buxom Beauty Standard figure, complete with Jiggle Physics and a check mark-shaped Cleavage Window.
  • Mic Drop: NuSky does this near the end of "Buffer". This doesn't do anything to stop Boyfriend from singing, forcing her to frantically scoop the microphone off the ground to finish the song.
  • Multiple Endings: Like in the original Sky mod, there are multiple endings to the main week and "Wife Whenever".
    • For the main week, beating "Chainlock" with 10 misses or less gives the player the good ending, in which Girlfriend scolds NuSky on her behavior and leaves with Boyfriend while NuSky learns not to meddle with established relationships. Beating the song with more than 10 misses gives the player the bad ending, in which NuSky strikes Boyfriend with a lightning bolt, killing him and leaving Girlfriend upset.
    • For "Wife Whenever", getting 1-10 misses nets the good ending, in which Sky (reluctantly) releases Boyfriend and lets Girlfriend leave with him. Getting more than 10 misses nets the bad ending, in which Sky kills Girlfriend in front of Boyfriend with a bullet, and beating the song with no misses nets the "Epic Ending', which is just a humorous picture of Boyfriend with his head shaped like a peanut, a nod to the same picture appearing as the "Secret Ending" of the original Sky mod, only here the picture is colorised.
  • Non-Standard Character Design: Ski is rendered in Nintendo 64-era 3D graphics, in contrast to all other chracters, who are 2D.
  • Noodle Incident: In the cutscene before "Chainlocked", NuSky implies that she and Boyfriend have met before, bringing up the name "Skylar". Per Word of God, Skylar apparently was hit by a car thanks to a bad idea of Boyfriend's and he just walked away instead of helping her. Boyfriend takes from this that NuSky is Skylar and is immediately panicked.
  • One-Winged Angel: NuSky transforms for the third song, something Boyfriend and Girlfriend are used to seeing by now. In contrast to the original Sky's One-Winged Angel form, NuSky's transformed state is more blatantly demonic, with horns and wings. The check sign on her shirt is also replaced with an X.
  • Only Sane Woman: Girlfriend. Her best friend is rude towards her boyfriend and is also pining for her, said friend and boyfriend are constantly throwing jabs at one another, and she is not amused by any of it. All she wanted was a normal Friday for them all to hang out.
  • Out of Focus:
    • Since the mod instead focuses on NuSky, the original Sky only gets two songs exclusive to freeplay.
    • This is also the case for Boyfriend and Girlfriend, as they only appear in the main week (and "Wife Whenever") and are nowhere to be seen in the "Skyverse" songs.
    • In the reboot, NuSky herself loses focus, for obvious reasons, and instead appears only in one song in the entire mod (a DLC song, for that matter), and it's just for a Take That!.
  • Promoted to Playable: NuSky (and Trusky in the reboot) in the "Skyverse" songs and Girlfriend in "Wife Whenever".
  • Punny Name:
    • NuSky sounds a lot like "New Sky", and she was the first of the many versions of Sky that came about once the original mod went under.
    • This was also the case with Trusky ("True Sky") before the Retcon.
  • Shout-Out: "Dandelion" is set in front of the bridge to Peach's castle from Super Mario 64, and the song itself references instruments from the game's music as well. Ski, the opponent of the song, is a fan of Super Mario 64 and is rendered in the game's style. She also throws a bob-omb in her left pose.
  • Sudden Gameplay Change: In the midway section of "Star", the gameplay takes on the style of Rhythm Doctor, with a bar displaying Sarusky and NuSky's hearts. Sarusky's hearts send out beats that the player must hit by pressing space when they reach the blue rectangle before NuSky's heart, or else they'll take damage and missing too many will result in a game over. Before said bar appears, the player is given Foreshadowing in the form of blinking lights that travel from Sarusky's heart to NuSky's heart. A total of 8 beats are sent out this way before the song returns to the normal Friday Night Funkin'-style gameplay.
  • Troll: Throughout "Buffer", Boyfriend is constantly interrupting NuSky's verses. He stops the interruptions after getting scolded by Girlfriend, but messes with NuSky one last time by continuing to sing after she does a Mic Drop.
  • Whole-Plot Reference: The NuSky week is one to the original Sky week, with Girlfriend and Boyfriend's roles swapped. This is changed in the reboot, though, and it's more of a reimagination of the plot from the original mod than a story contrast.
