Lucius Tarquinius Priscus, also known as Tarquin the Elder, was the fifth legendary king of Rome. He is believed to have ruled from around 616 BC to 579 BC and was the first Etruscan king.

He became emperor after immigrating to Rome and gaining favor with the Roman king Ancus Marcius who would adopt him as heir.

Upon ascending the throne, he waged wars against the Sabines and Etruscans, doubling the size of Rome and would increased the number of Senators from 100 to 200.

Upon conquering these areas, he would bring great treasures from there to build great monuments for Rome.

Built Rome's great sewer systems, the Cloaca Maxima, which he used to drain the swampy area between the Seven Hills of Rome. In its place, he began construction on the Roman Forum and founded the Roman games. Would built the Circus Maximus, a huge stadium for chariot racing.

Built the city's first bridge, the Pons Sublicius

Was killed by a son of Ancus Marcius, after 38 years as king.

The first Roman to celebrate the Roman triumph and introduced the Roman symbols of military and civil offices.
