The Original Game

  • The Other Darrin: Yukio Terada is voiced by Go Shinomiya, replacing Kenji Nomura. Nomura reprised the role in Kiwami and Kiwami 2.
  • Recycled Set: The Cho-han and Casino rooms in the Dragon Palace are blatantly reused from their equivalent locations in the first game, despite their new surroundings being completely different.
  • Translation Correction: The broken Korean from the Japanese version was re-recorded by native speakers for the Korean localization.
  • What Could Have Been: Although the localized version of the game doesn't feature an English dub, it was more likely due to budget and time constraints as opposed to Sega listening to the fans who wanted the original Japanese dub. Sega's localization team had previously expressed interest in getting the previous voice actors back together, and prior to the Western release of Yakuza 3, there were also reports that the game would feature an English dub once more. Both games ended up retaining the original Japanese dub.

Yakuza Kiwami 2

  • Content Leak: Twice!
    • The game appeared briefly on the Taiwanese PSN store in August 2017 and was taken down shortly afterwards. The game was officially announced the following day.
    • A rating for the PC version was listed on the ESRB website in March 2019 when no PC version had been officially announced.
  • Dummied Out: Hidden in the game's files is an early version of Takayuki Yagami, the main protagonist of Judgment; this particular model had yet to be based on Takuya Kimura, his Japanese voice actor. Packed alongside it are remnants of Yagami's Crane and Tiger fighting styles from the same game.
  • The Original Darrin:
    • After being replaced by Go Shinomiya for the original game, Kenji Nomura returns to voice Yukio Terada in Kiwami 2.
    • Kei Grant, who played the ring announcer, reprises his role for this game after being replaced by Hayato Horiuchi in Yakuza 5.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • Kaoru Sayama is voiced by Aya Hisakawa, who replaces Yu Daiki.
    • Tsutomu Bessho is voiced and portrayed by Yuichi Kimura, replacing Hidekazu Akai.
    • Wataru Kurahashi is voiced and portrayed by Houka Kinoshita, who replaces Shun Sugata.
    • Ryo Takashima is voiced and portrayed by Hakuryu, who replaces Hiroshi Tachi.
    • Koji Shindo is voiced by Takahiro Kageyama instead of Taichi Setogawa.
  • Role Reprise: Some characters who only appeared in the PS2 original have their roles reprised by the same actors.
    • Ryuji Goda is once again reprised by Masami Iwasaki, as was the case in Yakuza: Dead Souls and Ishin!

    • Jin Goda is reprised by Masuo Amada.
    • Toranosuke Sengoku is reprised by Tadahisa Saizen.
