  • Author's Saving Throw:
    • After the controversy surrounding a significant portion of content being cut from the US/EU versions in the original PS3 release, the PS4 remastered edition restores most of it with the exception of content that didn't make the jump from the PS3 to the PS4 remaster in general (i.e. The Quiz Show minigame, which had the questions hard-baked into image files and would have needed to be completely remade from scratch).
    • The infamous substory line involving Michiru the crossdresser was removed in the remastered version due to being an unfortunate stereotype, with Nagoshi citing Values Dissonance as the specific reason why.
  • Creator's Favorite: Hidenori Shoji, one of the series' main composers, cited "Clay Doll On The Cradle" (which plays in the final Long Battle where Kiryu raids the Touto Hospital alone) as his favorite track in the series.
  • The Danza: Shigeru Nakahara shares his first name with his voice actor Shigeru Izumiya.
  • Executive Meddling: The PS4 release alters the Tamashiro family crest to reduce its resemblance to the Imperial Japanese flag due to the remaster being the very first time that China and Korea will be getting this game.
  • Newbie Boom: Being the first title in the main series for the PlayStation 3, many fans claim they first came into the series with this game.
  • Troubled Production: The game's localization, which had omitted certain mini-games, sidequests, and hostess clubs despite some of these having appeared in earlier titles. Sega claimed that they were only given a short time to localize the game, and they either had to remove content or not release the game at all, and chose features that they felt people outside Japan had very little familiarity of and couldn't resonate with. Fans were certainly not pleased with the changes, but most of the features returned from Yakuza 4 onward.
  • Queer Character, Queer Actor: Ayaka the masseuse, who has a substory exploring her transgender identity, is played by transgender model Ayana Tsubaki.
  • What Could Have Been: There were talks in the early stages of the game's localization to feature an English dub once more, explained further in this podcast, which was also reported by various gaming news outlets. Due to the time and budget restraints given to Sega to localize the game, the idea was quickly axed.
