• Creator's Favorite: In a Twitter thread, one of the writers ecstatically stated that "May is perfect, and the team would die for her." Fans didn't feel the same way.
• Follow the Leader: The story is based on the The Walking Dead and Mad Max.
• Meaningful Release Date: This is another horror story released in October, the month of Halloween, though it was for VIP players.
• Series Hiatus: For VIP players, Wake The Dead went on hiatus after Chapter 11 released on December 29, 2021 (the day of the book's general release), and returned on February 16, 2022 (coincidentally, the day Crimes of Passion went on hiatus). The general release of the book did not receive a hiatus, although only one chapter was released on the general release date instead of two.
• What Could Have Been: According to Word of God on Twitter, several alterations were made:
  • Shannon was originally going to be the doctor who checked Ash for bites after their first mission, and who had recently been rescued from her research station prior to the start of the story. In the final version, she is rescued in Ash's first mission in Chapter 1.
  • The end of Chapter 2 originally had Brynn burning down Eli's cottage as the group escaped, rather than the sole gunshot seen in the final version.
  • The mall scene in Chapter 4 was planned to involve the main characters running through the mall while throwing toys and clothing from the various shops at the zombies to escape. It was scrapped due to not fitting the tone of the book.
  • Troy getting shot in Chapter 7 was added to make the Raiders seem like more of a serious threat.
  • When Ash fell off the beams in the original draft of Chapter 8, it was "more of a funny gag". In the final version, the situation is more threatening, with them almost being grabbed by zombies.
