"Is it too late for drunk foosball instead?"

  • Ash's first encounter with a zombie. They find a scientist locked in a glass room in a facility who frantically tries to tell them that they're in danger, but Ash can't hear them. The scientist pounds on the glass to get their attention, Ash turns around, only to see a zombie shambling towards them with a gnarly sound effect.
  • If you choose to smash the glass to get to the medicine quicker, Jeb gets bitten by a zombie and has to be put down, while Dirk gets an eye clawed out, and has to wear an eyepatch for the rest of the book.
  • The scene at the end of Chapter 1 where prisoners are sacrificed to the zombies is really horrifying.
  • While it turns out they're not an enemy after all, Chapter 3 ends with Ash, Troy, Shannon, and Eli falling into a pit after accidentally triggering a trap and being greeted by a green-haired figure wearing a mask with teeth peering over them.
  • If you thought normal zombies are scary enough, wait till you see the scout zombie in Chapter 5, with their large mouth and huge tongue, not to mention they let out an ear-piercing, blood-curdling shriek to call other zombies to their location.
    • Even worse, there's the soldier zombie in Chapter 12, which is a gigantic, muscular version of the scout zombie, with all those pustules... yeesh!
    • Chapter 15 introduces the sirens, who look like ordinary zombies (albeit more attractive) and lure their prey towards them with a melody and a sickly sweet scent. Once the victims get close, they reveal their true, ugly selves, which is really terrifying!
  • In Chapter 8, Shannon is trapped in a cupboard with zombies banging on it every second, while new teammate Minna (the daughter of the man who agreed to help build fortifications for your colony if you help him first) is overrun by a group of zombies and starting to run out of steam. Regardless of your choices, one of two things will happen; either Minna will get her hand bit (forcing you to amputate her entire arm with an axe), or Shannon will be traumatized from the experience (to the point that when you finally rescue her, she attacks you and has to be restrained). Both of these things double as Tear Jerkers; the former is a case of worry for the father who discovers his daughter with a missing arm when she returns, while it's implied that Shannon is now suffering from PTSD in the latter case.
  • Chapter 9 features a tournament held in the town of Ironmount, which is actually a free for all fight to the death, where the participants not only have to fight each other, but ZOMBIES as well. And worse, one of the zombies the knights captured is a scout, which causes a huge zombie invasion.
