• Actor Allusion: Christina Pickles once again plays an Evil Matriarch who plays favourites with her children.
• Dawson Casting:
  • Alison Lohman was twenty playing a high school student, with a full seven years between herself and Eli Marienthal.
  • Claire mentions that she's thirty-eight. Katey Sagal was nearly a full ten years older.
• Germans Love David Hasselhoff: The show was more popular in the UK when it was shown on Nickelodeon than in the US. Not enough to get a second season however.
• Missing Episode: Thirteen episodes were produced but only twelve were aired.
• The Other Darrin: In the pilot, a different actress is audible voicing Grandma over the phone. When she appears on-screen in the Christmas Episode, she's played by Christina Pickles.
• Star-Derailing Role: Eli Marienthal was receiving a bit of a push as a child actor thanks to his scene-stealing role as Stifler's younger brother in the American Pie films, and getting to voice Hogarth in The Iron Giant. The cancellation of this and The Country Bears put an end to that, and his only film role afterwards was Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen which, while a commercial success, did not make much of an impact. He retired from acting and became an environmentalist instead.
• Underage Casting: Noelle Beck, who played Jeannie, is only seventeen years older than her son Eli Marienthal. It does raise possibilities that she had Tucker very young, as she had only been a homemaker before the divorce and has to start waitressing because she has no qualifications.
