YMMV / Tucker

Go To

  • Designated Hero: Tucker gets this sometimes. Despite Seth being completely nice to him, Tucker does try to meddle in his and McKenna's relationship several times. He eventually does learn An Aesop and gets them back together in one episode.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: In the pilot when Claire is ranting to her mother about Tucker supposedly watching her change, Jeannie distracts Grandma by getting her mad at Claire. When Grandma eventually visits we see how emotionally abusive she actually is to Claire.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight:
    • Tucker's father is played by John Ritter. His aunt is played by Katey Sagal. A few years later the two would play husband and wife in the sitcom 8 Simple Rules. In an episode of that sitcom she again had to deal with her sister's husband leaving her for a younger woman.
    • Tucker being mistaken for a peeping Tom in the pilot is amusing if you remember his actor Eli Marienthal playing Steve Stifler's younger brother in American Pie - where this time he is trying to watch.
  • Ho Yay: In the second episode, Tucker wakes up to find Leon in bed with him. Leon says it's because he gets cold sleeping on his own. Tucker replies "then maybe you shouldn't sleep in the nude."
  • Incest Subtext: Leon makes a rather inappropriate comment about his aunt in the first episode. Tucker is also visibly turned on by his father's new girlfriend - and another episode has her seemingly about to demonstrate how to kiss. She insists she was going to kiss the pillow but Tucker (and Jeannie) are visibly disturbed.
  • Jerkass Woobie:
    • Tucker is a bit of a brat at times, but he's had to deal with his father leaving his mother for another woman, not to mention having to move in with his unpleasant aunt.
    • Claire too, at least as revealed in the Christmas Episode. Her stern parenting and snitty attitude is all a result of her mother's emotional abuse.
  • Retroactive Recognition:
    • Alison Lohman would get a big break the next year in White Oleander, and horror fans would know her best for Drag Me to Hell.
    • In the first episode the girl who comes out of Claire's town meeting and screams when she sees Tucker is Emmalee Thompson - who played the younger version of Prue in a few episodes of Charmed.
  • Stoic Woobie: Jeannie, who tries to improve her own situation after a messy divorce, and balance that with raising her son. She gets horrible treatment from her sister about her parenting and just keeps on going.
