General Trivia

Sonic Reclassified

  • Mystic Island, a key setpiece of this game, was originally planned to be a key focus of a cancelled project by Devy, Sonic: Dark Abyss. The island was eventually picked up again for a new focus in the story of Reclassified.

Sonic.EXE All-Stars (and its remasters)

  • During development of Sonic.EXE All-Stars, Devy made the decision to cut the majority of Rouge.EXE's content in order to save time with production, mainly since that game reused the levels seen in Sally.EXE.
  • While not present in the original take on the Worst Ending cutscene of Sonic.EXE All-Stars 2, Puroto was added in as part of the 16:9 remaster on Pico's YouTube channel.
  • The concept of the Angel Alliance originated from old artwork created by SonicFan50002, depicting groups of heroes between dimensions as statues of sorts. This was later expanded to be a bigger part of the expanded saga of events.

General

    Trivia in general
  • Creator Breakdown: Devy himself had left the Sonic.EXE community entirely come 2022, wanting to outright distance himself from the creepypasta and the toxic fandom residing within. His breakdowns in question had been happening more recently, as seen with the Debut Demo being temporarily taken down and the top part of the description being filled with "YOUR NOT GETTING THIS GAME" on loop, alongside privately denying any prospect of happiness. And worse, he cited Hedgehog's Bloody Collection as outright cancelled despite ownership having been transferred by that point.
  • He Also Did:
  • Old Shame: Aside from the Creator Backlash mentioned in the classic All-Stars folder, Pico does not look back fondly on his earliest attempts with game design, especially with the earliest versions of a planned remake of the Phantom Saga and refusing to discuss it further if people bring it up.
  • Why Fandom Can't Have Nice Things:
    • While Sonic.EXE All-Stars 2 had been officially archived, alongside another project by NotSoDevy, Freedom Planet: Neera's Backstory, some people, of course, were adamant on wanting to see more of Devy's lost content reuploaded. However, Pico has stated repeatedly that he would not be archiving any more of Devy's projects (nor would he reupload games taken down in the past) unless he received permission to do so.
    • Sonic.exe Delta Genesis is to be made using "Genesis Sonic Worlds", a modified framework made by Sonic's Gaming Hub. However, after he noticed one too many instances of people stealing things from his framework and implementing it into their own, he had to put his foot down, personally addressing the issue on GameJolt to warn people against stealing further, lest they get into deep trouble for it.

Sonic Reclassified

    Trivia for this game
  • Author's Saving Throw: For the Sin Demo onwards, CrystalChaos removed the realistic fire and fire-crackling ambience to swap it out with the Sonic 3 fire sprites.
  • Creator Backlash:
    • During the development stages of Reclassified, Crystal and Gold weren't afraid to voice their distaste for Sally.exe: Discovery being treated as canon in the Reclassified universe, especially with it being seen as Old Shame by Devy himself. Rain did justify this, though, considering it isn't actually mentioned at all in-game.
    • After enough time, Rain himself got frustrated enough with the decisions being made solely by Crystal and Gold for the game (where it was being stuck as just "Sonic.exe but Sonic Origins"), to the point that he permanently left the development team. Pico himself followed suit soon after, leaving what's left of the project in their hands alone.
  • Creator's Favorite: Between the letterbox backgrounds, CrystalChaos especially took a liking to the Ms. Pac-Man one, taking a liking to her a lot more than her own husband.
  • Creator's Pest: In terms of levels, CrystalChaos had found Burned Hill Zone to be the most difficult level to port over from the Debut Demo due to the amount of bugs needed to be patched out.
  • Development Hell: From the Debut Demo's release, it took almost a year for development of the game to get back on track, due to an ownership transfer and lack of coders at the time, amongst other things.
  • Dummied Out:
    • For the Debut Demo, there was plans for MegaDrivX to trip up and stop chasing Tails after a certain amount of time had passed in "Burned Hill Zone Act 2". This has been scrapped for the demo, though will be reimplemented back in later.
    • Similarly, Tails was meant to have a unique life loss sequence in the same level if the HEAT counter reached 0 from collecting too many ice rings, freezing in a block of ice before shattering to pieces. This isn't included in the Debut Demo and just has Tails losing a life the usual way.
    • The Debut Demo has Launch Base Zone as Robotnik's first level, being set as a Fetch Quest for robot parts. In Genesis' Awakening, this was planned to be removed and replaced with Crystal Egg Zone, which was to feature more puzzle-based progression between the two acts.
  • Official Fan-Submitted Content: For the upcoming updates to Reclassified, letterbox backgrounds for Classic Mode were made by a few fans to be used in the full game.
  • Referenced by...: As part of the prologue of The .EXE Saga: Reanimated, gameplay footage of Reclassified (particularly the Emerald Palace boss fight) was shown off as the narrator lists off particular works leading up to the present. Word of God mentioned that it was included to allow more people to acknowledge the game's existence.
  • Role-Ending Misdemeanor: Rain willingly left the development of Sonic Reclassified after both Crystal and Gold refused to accept his criticism to the decisions being made on the project, meaning Delta Genesis and its sequels are now completely separate. Pico himself permanently stepped down from developing on the game soon afterwards, in turn marking the end for his game development history.
  • Word of God: While Reclassified has yet to be completed, several bits of important lore are dropped on the Discord server by one of the game's co-writers.
    • While the Sonic world is under an entirely different name in Reclassified, Mobians do exist, but they only reside on one area of Gaia, specifically Mt. Mobius.
    • Light and Dark Gaia both exist within the game's universe, though aren't so prominent here for now.

Sonic.EXE All-Stars Classics

    Trivia for these games
  • Approval of God: BEC Enterprises and NightAkio both approved of the usage of their EXE characters in the original Sonic.EXE All-Stars 2 and even provided assistance for the worst ending cutscene in some manner.
  • Creator Backlash: In a Twitter thread made by the fangame's co-owner, Pico Digital Studios, he mentioned how he came to hate the concept of SoniKiller when he was made for Sonic.EXE All-Stars, seeing that the Villain Decay planned out for him is deserved overall, despite the monster having his fans. This mutual feeling between several developers of the games means that he'll have little to no further major screen time in future instalments, though ownership for him overall has since been transferred.
"Now, I'm going to be blunt here; I no longer really like SoniKiller's concept. I seriously feel that the idea's lost its charm since its introduction roughly 3 years back compared to more recent Sonic.EXE entities such as Fatal Error or Needlem0use. I understand that the complete monster might have his fans, but he's pretty much my source of Old Shame (thanks a lot to those comparing his appearance to Chaos Hunter /sar). There's no sympathy for that devil from me, no matter what. While his creation did serve as a building block for crossover fanfiction that me and a friend have been designing, I've deliberately given him villain decay to signify that he's lost the charm he once had. I personally feel he got that cruel and painful punishment coming to him."
  • Creator's Pest: Pico grew to hate SoniKiller overall, as mentioned in Creator Backlash above.
  • Descended Creator:
  • Follow the Leader: The critical reception of Sonic.EXE All-Stars inevitably led to similar concepts and imitators that combined a mix of content together into one game. Of course, the quality of these imitators vary.
  • God Never Said That: SoniKiller, in his original design, was commonly mixed up with Chaos Hunter from Sally.exe Continued Nightmare: Eye of Three due to one part of the latter's design that only saw use once. Pico himself has had to clarify that neither are the same character and that their motives differ drastically.
  • In Memoriam: Entering the Konami Code on the title screen of Sonic.EXE All-Stars (with X, Z replacing B, A in this case) will show a tribute screen dedicated to Kazuhisa Hashimoto, its creator, who passed away during 2020. The background of said screen also shows an image of the title screen of Contra as appreciation for where the code originated from.
  • Old Shame: Pyrom wasn't afraid to express his distaste with "Thirst for Toxic Revenge" after VS SoniKiller released.

Sonic.EXE All-Stars (new games)

    Trivia for these games
  • Approval of God: Both BEC and Pico, who had worked on SonicClone's sprites, approved of a fan mod of Sonic Forever that implemented his non-EXE sprites into the game seamlessly. Pico even gave it some publicity via GameJolt and this article's main page.
  • Dear Negative Reader: Primal was quick to put his foot down concerning certain people who want games out as quickly as possible, mainly after hearing about other developers being unduly rushed to complete their games, and made a post flat-out calling this malicious act out.
  • Line to God: An ongoing QnA on Twitter is present to answer any questions related to SonicClone as Refined Edition continues development. This eventually got moved to Tumblr following the website's rebranding to "X".
