- Acting for Two:
- Jason Griffith voices Sonic, Jet, and Shadow.
- Dan Green voices Storm and Knuckles.
- First Appearance: Sonic Riders introduces Jet, Wave and Storm.
- Franchise Killer: Free Riders' abysmal reception has pretty much ended any hope for the continuation of the Riders subseries.
- The Other Darrin: Free Riders is the first North American game to use the new voice cast, beating Sonic Colors by eleven days. Also, the first Riders had Mike Pollock voice Dr. Eggman during the cutscenes and Deem Bristow voice him as a playable character, through voice clips from Sonic Adventure 2.
- Posthumous Credit: In the first game, while Mike Pollock voices Eggman in the cutscenes, the in-game voice clips are provided by the late Deem Bristow (by reusing his voice clips from Sonic Adventure 2), who had passed away a year before the game's release.
- What Could Have Been: A Game Boy Advance version of Riders was planned, which would have used a OutRun-style engine. However, when Sega of Japan saw the game, they insisted that Sega of America add 3D to it while still keeping the same production schedule. Sega of America was unable to rewrite the engine and the necessary features while still having it on store shelves at the same time as the other versions of Riders, so the GBA version was scrapped.
