Trivia / Rage 2

Go To

  • Dueling Works: Inevitably with Far Cry: New Dawn, which releases in the same year. Both games have the same premise, taking place in a post-apocalyptic Earth plagued with raiders and having an extremely colorful and frenetic aesthetic, even down to them both using bright magenta as a color motif.
    • Also with Borderlands 3, another open-world shooter set in a colorful, but anarchic, wasteland. Both games have also significantly turned up the crazy dial since their original outings (although this is new for Rage, while it's been the status quo in Borderlands for some time). Fitting, as the original Rage (2011) drew several comparisons to the original Borderlands.
  • International Coproduction: The game is being developed primarily by the Swedish-based Avalanche Studios, with assistance by the US-based id Software, and published by Bethesda.
  • Sequel Gap: By 2018, the original Rage (2011) had largely been forgotten by the gaming masses, especially after id's return to prominence with Doom (2016). As such, nobody was expecting a sequel, especially after an eight-year release gap.
  • Troubled Production: According to an interview with John Carmack, id had plans on making a sequel to Rage as far back as 2012, which would have gone into production as soon as the ill-fated Doom 4 was released. When that game hit Development Hell, the (at the time, unannounced) Rage sequel was shelved. Eventually, though, Doom (2016) hit the scene, and Rage 2 was back on.
