Trivia / Rage (1977)

Go To

  • Bury Your Art: King has refused to let this book be republished. He does acknowledge the existence of the book on his website, but it includes a note saying "No future printings will be made of this novel at Stephen's request due to the sensitive nature of the content."
  • Creator Backlash: King has distanced himself from the novel, albeit not for the reasons you'd normally expect for this trope. He's not ashamed that he wrote the book, but he did request it be pulled out of print because of a handful of school hostage situations and shootings that were inspired by it. He's simply realistic and understandably feels that preserving the full integrity of his writing isn't worth the lives people who were inspired by the book have taken.
  • Keep Circulating the Tapes: Both the original novel and the omnibus collection (The Bachman Books) that it was part of are out of print. However "The Bachman Books" has been released as an e-book, Rage is not available as a stand alone book.
  • What Could Have Been: In the ending to the original manuscript, Ted dies (though no changes to how his classmates torment him, and he is left in the same state as the revised ending before we move onto Charlie's fate); Charlie is convicted of the killings, in addition to Ted's death. These changes, though thankfully changed, serve no justice for either character though, sadly, because no hope of Ted's condition of improving and Charlie is still busted.
