Trivia / Prehistoric Park Reimagined

Go To

  • Approval of God: Writer!Drew Luczynski, the original creator and one of the original writers of Prehistoric Earth, explicitly gave his blessing for Nathanoraptor to create this story and showed no ill will to getting replaced as Nathanoraptor's co-writer. And while he's made it quite clear there are some elements that he's not exactly pleased with, he has nonetheless praised elements that he does like in the reviews he's currently left in the story's review section. And for the added cherry on the top, it has since been confirmed by Nathanoraptor that Luczynski is also very pleased with how Cynthia has so far been handled over the course of her time in this series.
  • Creator Backlash:
    • Not so much for the story itself as for some ideas that didn't make the cut, but A-LionGleek has expressed genuine embarrassment over at least two ideas he initially considered incorporating into the story involving Jack that he's now realized upon further reflection to be far too uncharacteristically mean-spirited for the character as well as equally genuine relief that Nathanoraptor chose to have those ideas cut (to the point that A-LionGleek isn't even upset about not being consulted over the action beforehand). He also was not afraid to make it clear how he considered Hell's Labyrinth to be one of the most stressful chapters he's ever had to write due to a less than ideal experience with how the writing process unfolded for that particular chapter.
    • Nathanoraptor himself removed an explanation about how the COVID-19 pandemic never happened, as he now comes to view it as dating the story too much to its detriment - as well as this, he felt it was inappropriate to treat a pressing global issue so flippantly. He has since adopted a Never Was This Universe approach to the timeline.
  • Creator Breakdown: Nathanoraptor underwent a particularly stressful time in his life outside fanfiction over the course of doing the writing for Life in Transition and The First Steps. As a result, the update schedule for those chapters became rather erratic.
  • Development Gag:
    • During one of Leon's back at the park scenes in Red in Tooth and Claw, it is mentioned in the narrative how he initially wanted to help round up the escaped compsognathus during the events of New Blood, only to be explicitly told not to get involved. This is a nod to how A-LionGleek initially wished for Leon to play a role in helping to round them up and figure out about the means in which the compies were proving capable of escaping from their exhibit before Nathanoraptor convinced him to let Leon sit out the events of the episode due to having already played a prominent role in the immediately preceding episode All Things Great and Small.
    • The narrative during Tina and Horace's introductory scenes in Oozing From the Pit contains explicit wording that they were present amongst Kyle's holding pens team during the events of Red in Tooth and Claw. This is a nod to how the two characters were initially considered to have their introduction occur in that specific chapter before ending up getting their introduction refitted for the chapter that followed instead.
    • Over the course of the discussions between Leon, Khatin, and the latter's three young assistants, it is briefly mentioned how Leon had previously suggested naming the newly discovered crocodilian species tlalocisuchus before the group finally decided upon foetodon. The name tlalocisuchus was initially what A-LionGleek himself suggested naming the newly discovered species before Nathanoraptor informed him that he wished for them to be named foetodon instead.
    • Before Jack confirms them to be an undiscovered genus of Jurassic period crocodilian, Cynthia asks if the eocrocodylus are bernissartia...a reference to how bernissartia is indeed what they were intended to be in earlier drafts for Uwanda Wa Miiba before they were later retooled into the speculative eocrocodylus genus.
  • Hypothetical Casting: Enough to get its own page.
  • Irony as She is Hypothetically Cast: Considering one of Tom Holland's most famous roles, it is rather amusing seeing him hypothetically portraying a character who is absolutely terrified of spiders. And then there's the fact that Leon himself has proven capable so far of maintaining secrecy of the park's existence while being hypothetically portrayed by an actor notoriously prone to accidentally giving spoilers for MCU movies.
  • The Other Darrin: Played with in that it's a case of this for Hypothetical Casting. Via a mixture of Word of God and Shrug of God, Nathanoraptor chose to have Joe Keery of Stranger Things fame be picked as the envisioned casting choice for Drew in the PPR continuity, but indicated that he didn't really care whether or not readers chose to allow this same decision to be retroactively applied to his counterpart in Prehistoric Earth (in which he was initially accepted to be hypothetically portrayed by Keery's fellow Stranger Things actor Charlie Heaton). Furthermore, he also later agreed to have Nikolai and Cynthia (who were initially agreed upon to be portrayed by Tim Roth and Fiona Gubelmann, respectively, as they were in Prehistoric Earth) to be recasted to be portrayed by David Harbour and Jodie Comer instead (with the former occurring due to Nathanoraptor gradually deciding Harbour fit the role for Nikolai better after his performances as Hopper in Stranger Things and Alexei in Black Widow (2021) and the latter occurring when Nathanoraptor agreed to A-LionGleek choosing for as much due to both Comer's performance in Free Guy as well as the belated realization on A-LionGleek's part how Fiona Gubelmannnote  was potentially a little too old to believably work to portray a love interest for a character portrayed by Joe Keerynote ).
  • Production Posse: Via Hypothetical Casting and Author Appeal, many of the human characters are envisioned by the authors to be portrayed by actors who've appeared together in various productions (or in at least one case, in the same franchise without sharing any films together).
  • Promoted Fanboy: A-LionGleek had been an avid fan of Prehistoric Park, and the Extinction World mythos prior to the creation of Prehistoric Earth. He also was both one of two readers who played a key role in convincing Drew Luczynski to create Prehistoric Earth as well as one of the story's most consistent readers and reviewers. He even managed to make suggestions for various ideas and characters to potentially be used in Prehistoric Park Reimagined after learning about it being in the idea stage. While initially offered a story by credit, he later ended up getting picked to be Nathanoraptor's new co-writer for Prehistoric Park Reimagined after Drew chose to respectfully decline the offer to reprise this position from his time with Prehistoric Earth.
  • Refitted for Sequel: Well technically refitted for reboot, but same basic principle, as several ideas initially planned for Prehistoric Earth before getting scrapped for some reason or other have since ended up finally seeing the light of day in this story instead. And there's also a few ideas originally planned for stories in the Extinction World mythos that manage to see the light of day in this story instead as well. In fact, enough elements in this story qualify to give them their own page!
  • Role Reprise: Played with. Of the characters from Prehistoric Earth that have so far made the jump to Prehistoric Park Reimagined, the majority of them are still imagined as being portrayed by the same actors and actresses that they were imagined as being portrayed by in Prehistoric Earth (the only exceptions so far being Drew, Nikolai, and Cynthia, who end up undergoing the hypothetical The Other Darrin approach instead).
  • Schedule Slip: Due to busy schedules to juggle on both authors' ends, plus what has been hinted to be occasionally spotty wi-fi connection on Nathanoraptor's end, this has occurred more than once.
  • Special Thanks: In the review section, Nathanoraptor allowed this to be posted very early on in the story's posting in which he thanked nphillips0115 (aka Flameal 15 K) for showing support for the idea of this story from the very beginning, Nathanoraptor's co-writer for Prehistoric Earth Drew Luczynski for giving his blessing for the story, and Prehistoric Park: Extinction World mythos writers DaDog and MortalKombat247 for providing the Inspiration for the Work.
  • Those Two Actors: In a Hypothetical Casting example, A-LionGleek chose to have Cynthia (previously hypothetically portrayed by Fiona Gubelmann) recast to have Jodie Comer hypothetically portray her for this story partially due to her performance and chemistry alongside Drew's own hypothetical PPR portrayer Joe Keery in Free Guy.
  • What Could Have Been: This has popped up enough times over the course of this story's writing for it to have its own page.
  • Word of God: Much like Nathanoraptor and Drew Luczynski did with Prehistoric Earth, Nathanoraptor and A-LionGleek leave trivia segments in the reviews in which they both clarify why they wrote/did certain things as they turned out in the chapters as well as mention What Could Have Been.
    • The park itself, at least during Phase 1, is about the same size as Disney's Animal Kingdom.
    • For the same reasons that got them eventually removed from Prehistoric Earth after being present in some of the earlier 'episodes', this fanfic will not include an 'instrumental theme tune' or 'Prehistoric Park style monologue narration'. Likewise, for the exact same reasons that Nathanoraptor and writer!Drew chose not to have prehistoric humanity be amongst the 'rescues' for the park in Prehistoric Earth, Nathanoraptor and A-LionGleek will not be including neanderthals, cro-magnons, or any other prehistoric hominids (outside of explicitly animalistic primates like australopithecus that is) amongst the rescues in this story.
    • As far as A-LionGleek considers to be canon, the reason the dromaeosaurus were picked as the 'raptors' for Jack to start training to serve as 'guard dogs' for security as well as to view him as their alpha is that the acheroraptor were too small to serve as effective guard dog equivalents and the pectinodon are intelligent enough to be more likely to rebel against such training.
  • Write What You Know:
    • Being autistic himself, A-LionGleek tends to draw upon some of his own personal experiences when doing writing for Leon (and also when he first helped create Leon for Prehistoric Earth). For that matter, Yolanda is heavily based upon two of A-LionGleek's real life friends.
    • Furthermore, A-LionGleek heavily based the appearance of the Prehistoric Park aquarium (or at the very least the roof of it) off of the appearance of Ripley's Aquarium (which he himself has visited in the past more than once). And similarly, Sinbad the cymbospondylus being extracted from his exhibit for a routine veterinary checkup and subsequently returned to his exhibit via usage of a stretcher attached to a crane was inspired by A-LionGleek seeing a similar strategy being used for manatees in the Magic of the Animal Kingdom and Secrets of the Zoo documentaries.

General Trivia

  • By sheer circumstance, this is the very first Prehistoric Park fanfiction to feature smilodon gracilis getting rescued for inclusion amongst the park's animal roster.
