What Could Have Been / Prehistoric Park Reimagined

Go To

  • Leon was initially considered by A-LionGleek to play a prominent role (via having his animal impersonation skills receiving a much earlier introduction than they ended up receiving in the final product) in getting the camarasaurus through the portal in Novum Initium. Nathanoraptor convinced him to let this be scrapped due to how this was supposed to be the time when Leon was still considered The Load, and both authors ultimately felt it would be a good idea for this perception of him to have some basis in reality (something that Leon competently getting any animals through the portal via entirely his own effort would have made difficult to realistically convey).
  • The apatosaurus that got successfully killed by the allosaurus fragilis pack in the climactic Animal Stampede was initially intended to be a prime health aged adult female, and implied to be Bron's mate and Littlefoot's mother. Nathanoraptor changed it so that the luckless apatosaurus that got killed would be an elderly adult male instead while also having a similarly aged elderly adult female react to the male's despairing bellows instead of Bron and Littlefoot. Considering how the original plans for the scene would have made the planned Shout-Out a little too on the nose and possibly also made the apatosaurus come across as too anthropomorphic, this change is probably for the best.
  • Over the course of A-LionGleek's efforts at working out how to adequately describe the animals in ways that would fit an established environmental theme Nathanoraptor had planned for the animals of the Morrison Formation, A-LionGleek initially described a few of the animals in ways somewhat different from how they turned out in the final product. Specifically, via different color palettes and a couple bodily features that he has since admitted may have not been as entirely accurate as he initially thought.
  • As mentioned on the Refitted for Sequel page, the prominent characters amongst the veterinary division were initially supposed to be introduced in All Creatures Great and Small before being forced to get that introduction in the very next chapter due to pacing reasons. Similarly, Stavros and Kira's fellow Ancient Mariner crew members were initially planned to get their introduction in New Blood before getting forced to wait until a future chapter due to similar pacing reasons.
  • A-LionGleek initially planned for Leon to have been outright bullied in school as per his Fanon as Leon's creator for his incarnation in Prehistoric Earth. Nathanoraptor was able to amicably convince A-LionGleek to change his mind to have Leon just be teased at the very worst due to feeling that the bullying angle would be too much of a cliche. A-LionGleek also initially planned for Leon to explicitly voice aloud his insecurities and be reassured by Drew and Adrian that he would at least have an acceptable level of competence in his work at the park once he staid in the job long enough to get fully comfortable and establish his footing. Nathanoraptor was able to convince him to allow this to be altered to its current form when he made it clear that A-LionGleek had ended up accidentally implying that Leon's planned Character Arc was to eventually become The Ace in animal care; which neither author had intended to be the case at all.
  • The scene at the beginning of All Creatures Great And Small where some of the supposed 'apatosaurus, diplodocus carnegii, and camarasaurus' were actually brontosaurus, seismosaurus (aka. diplodocus hallorum), and cathetosaurus was (at least according to what Nathanoraptor initially told A-LionGleek) originally planned for inclusion somewhere near the end of Novum Initium. For unknown reasons, this scene ended up refitted for ''All Creatures Great and Small' instead.
  • In relation to the originally planned introduction for Harry and Bethany in All Creatures Great and Small, Broken Jaw was originally intended to have his surgery be explicitly shown to the readers. For the sake of pacing, his surgery ended up occurring off-screen before he then got his name confirmed to the readers in ''New Blood' while he was in the midst of happily and healthily eating alongside his family in their enclosure.
  • A-LionGleek initially planned for Leon to play a small role in rounding up the escaped compies and be seen practicing his eventual animal impression skills and use of the 'broadcasting device' before their later 'official introduction' during New Blood. Nathanoraptor convinced him to let these particular scenes be scrapped since he felt that Leon had already had a decent amount of prominent scenes in All Creatures Great and Small.
  • Speaking of the compsognathus, they were originally planned to play a much larger role as comic relief critters over the course of Phase 1 than they ultimately ended up getting due to Nathanoraptor and A-LionGleek proving unable to find a sufficiently appropriate way to fit them into the narrative. However, Nathanoraptor so far hopes to allow them to fit in and serve as comic relief once more over the course of later phases of the story.
  • A small group of thalattoarchon was initially rescued alongside the cymbospondylus at the time in which New Blood was first posted, with one of them (named Sinbad) even playing a minor role in Extras chapter Soothing Seas. However, Nathanoraptor later edited them out altogether (complete with changing Sinbad into a cymbospondylus) when he realized that the species didn't even live in Europe.
  • Behind the scenes material indicates that the alpha male and female of the larger apatosaurus herd were originally supposed to be named Thunder and Lightning. For unknown reasons, the alpha female at least has had her name changed to Gertie instead. Similarly, A-LionGleek initially planned for Broken Fang to be named Half Tooth and the two bachelor smilodon brothers to be named Roscoe and DeSoto (as both a slight nod to the Big Bad from the first Ice Age movie and a Shout-Out to Oliver & Company). Nathanoraptor, however, chose to have Half Tooth once again be named Broken Fang as he'd been in Prehistoric Earth while also changing Roscoe and DeSoto to Carlos and Raul due to personally liking those names better.
  • It was initially considered for Tina and Horace to receive their introduction in Red in Tooth and Claw. For unknown (but possibly related to pacing) reasons, their introduction was refitted for Oozing From the Pit. Their initially planned introduction in Red in Tooth and Claw was even briefly alluded to via it being revealed in the narrative during their introduction scenes in Oozing From the Pit that the both of them had been amongst the holding pens team Kyle had assembled for that mission.
  • A-LionGleek also initially considered having a small subplot be introduced in Oozing From the Pit in which Dermot the doedicurus and a glyptodon named Stuart (after Fast Tony's short lived assistant in Ice Age: The Meltdown) be involved in a series of mild territorial disputes. Nathanoraptor convinced A-LionGleek to peacefully scrap this idea for the sake of pacing. A-LionGleek also initially planned (as per the Oozing from the Pit teaser at the end of Red in Tooth and Claw) for Broken Jaw to at one point startle Jack and the security guards doing the inspection on the large theropod carnivore enclosures before the scene ultimately ended up cut for undisclosed reasons.
  • Littlefoot, Stuart, Camille, and Celeste were initially planned by A-LionGleek to have their existence (in the case of Littlefoot and Stuart), names, and mating status (in the case of Celeste) be explicitly confirmed in the narration (if not dialogue) of specific chapters. For what is currently presumed to be pacing reasons, these details were later changed to having their revelation occur via Word of God in A-LionGleek's trivia segments for the chapters in question.
  • Oozing From the Pit was initially planned to be written and posted to occur after Return of the King. This was ultimately changed to the order in which it unfolds in the final product due to Nathanoraptor realizing that Return of the King worked better as the mid-season finale due to arguably having a much more exciting and 'finale worthy' plot.
  • The Hell Creek alvarezsaurids were initially planned to be named Montanonykus due to the chapter being first in the planning stages and written when they still didn't yet have an official genus name put in writing for the scientific community. However, as per Science Marches On that occurred in the time leading up to the posting of Return of the King, they have since ended up called trierarchuncus instead.
  • Speaking of Return of the King, the anzu wyliei were initially planned by A-LionGleek to have already set up a nesting ground and laid eggs, but Nathanoraptor chose to have them simply be in the midst of mating season instead for the sake of pacing. For similar reasons, Nathanoraptor also chose to delete his originally planned idea of the wounded Cirrus the Quetzalcoatlus to end up menaced by Duke's pack before his rescue when he realized the chapter was getting too long while said idea was present within the story.
  • During the earlier planning stages of Return of the King, the adult male t-rex that serves as Rexy's mate and Terrence and Matilda's father was originally planned to be named Sharptooth. However, Nathanoraptor chose to have his name changed to Tyrannor instead so as to allow for the chance for a version of Sharptooth with more similarities to his counterpart of the same name in Prehistoric Earth to appear in the story at a later date.
  • The Jerk Jock that teased Leon in the past alongside Alpha Bitch Fiona Winters was originally planned by A-LionGleek to be named Andrew. For unexplained reasons that A-LionGleek was nonetheless perfectly willing to respectnote , his name was changed to Billy instead.
  • A-LionGleek initially planned, for the sake of Rule of Drama, for Jack to initially get influenced by Colette's ambivalent opinion on Yolanda into having a relatively similar initial opinion on her before later getting to know her properly and befriending her in subsequent chapters. Nathanoraptor had this changed so that Jack and Yolanda befriended each other and got on fairly quickly, with the former even being implied to have potentially managed to slightly influence Colette's own opinion on Yolanda for the better instead of Colette negatively influencing Jack's. This change is something that A-LionGleek has admitted probably fits Jack's character better anyway. And in the days following the posting of Devils of the Deep, he has since come to feel immense embarrassment over even thinking of this idea in the first place as well as equally immense relief that Nathanoraptor chose to leave it on the cutting room floor.
  • A-LionGleek also initially planned for both an explicit explanation as to why Drew's portal remote malfunctioned during Alien Empire and also for the 'special plan' Nikolai and Kyle had in mind and needed Jack's help with to be explicitly revealed. For the sake of suspense in the case of the former and avoiding spoilers in the case of the latter, Nathanoraptor had these elements cut. The exact nature of the 'special plan' was eventually revealed in full in the chapter Proposition in Prehistoric Park: Extras.
  • A-LionGleek initially planned, for the sake of allowing a degree of standing out from Prehistoric Earth, to have Yolanda be entirely conscious during her rescue from the crassigyrinus as well as for Leon to be able to hold off the amphibians entirely on his own (but not without the implication of the crassigyrinus being on the verge of potentially finally overwhelming him by the time the escape rope was finally provided). However, potentially for the sake of heightened realism and synergy with Prehistoric Earth, Nathanoraptor changed it so that Yolanda was rendered semiconscious like she was in Prehistoric Earth and that Leon ended up needing some assistance from Andrias the proterogyrinus in order to avoid getting overwhelmed. Also planned was for Yolanda to get knocked on the head by the clipboard Matt accidentally tosses into the air before falling into the crassigyrinus pool. Nathanoraptor changed it to the clipboard landing nearby her and startling her into walking backwards to the point of slipping on some water instead. Finally, in the same chapter, A-LionGleek initially planned for Jack to attract the attention of the varanops pack by pulling one of them by the tail from behind. Nathanoraptor changed this to him startling them from behind using an airhorn due to the original plan potentially being considered too reckless or abusive for Jack to consider using.
  • The events of the staff Halloween party alluded to in No Small Parts, Only Small Animals was originally planned by Nathanoraptor to be explicitly featured within the chapter itself. Nathanoraptor himself eventually chose to scrap it when he realized that it didn't truly fit the overall theme of the story.
  • A-LionGleek initially planned for both the prank that got aborted because of the Halloween party to involve a 'technicolor foam water fountain' and for the Noodle Incident that occurred during Aaron's failed date with Marcia the tourist in Costa Rica to be explicitly revealed to have involved a fire salamander from Aaron's collection of amphibians ending up accidentally stowing away with him and revealing itself long after the date was already fully in action. For unknown reasons, Nathanoraptor changed the aborted prank to an effort to hack through a platform used by the aquarists when caring for the nothosaurus so as to cause them to fall into the tank and had the events of Aaron's failed date with Marcia be kept deliberately unrevealed.
  • A-LionGleek initially planned for the alpha female brontosaurus to be named Lightning for the sake of a refitting of the originally inferred idea to have the apatosaurus herd be led by an elderly pair named Thunder and Lightning. For undisclosed reasons, Nathanoraptor chose for the alpha female brontosaurus to be named Suua instead. A-LionGleek also initially planned for Kuzco the macrauchenia to be the one standing on the 'breeze stone' and refusing to share, for the theriodictis pack to be revealed to have the alpha male and female named Goigoi and Reirei, and for Kyle to have a 'jolt rod' in his hands to keep Rommel from attacking Spiny. For undisclosed reasonsnote , Nathanoraptor had Kuzco instead be throwing a fit to try to convince another male named Manco to let him come onto the breeze stone, removed the name dropping for the theriodictis pack's alpha male and female, and changed Kyle's weapon into an airhorn.
  • From what Nathanoraptor had told A-LionGleek initial plans were for Devils of the Deep, the mission set to immediately follow it, and three Extras chapters set to take place in between the two missions were originally planned to all be posted together on the exact same single day as a 'belated Christmas present for the readership'. For reasons unknown, Nathanoraptor has since posted Devils of the Deep on its own on January 14, 2021 the first of the subsequent Extras chapters (Truce) on the day immediately after that day, the remaining two finished subsequent Extras chapters on January 19, 2021, and the next mission of the main story (Building Bridges) on January 21, 2021.
  • Some of the scuffles between Jack and Leon were initially planned by A-LionGleek to be at least the slightest bit longer than they were in the final product. Just to name one example, the final clash in particular was initially planned by him to have Leon respond to Jack's pointing out how Andrias played a larger role than him in Yolanda's successfully getting rescued than he himself did by pointing out that it was technically only thanks to him that Yolanda was able to stay alive and avoid getting mauled by the crassigyrinus long enough for Andrias to be able to intervene at a point where his assistance wouldn't have ended up coming too late to be of use before Jack would have responded back with an appropriate rebuttal and then stated the finishing statement present in the final product. For what A-LionGleek currently presumes to be pacing reasons, Nathanoraptor chose to have all the clashes streamlined to what he himself felt would be appropriate lengthsnote .
  • In an idea tangentially related to a previously discarded idea of his involving Colette negatively influencing Jack's initial opinion of Yolanda via Toxic Friend Influence, A-LionGleek initially considered having Jack decide to try to make meanspirited Blatant Lies about Yolanda immediately after Leon's initially planned and discarded rebuttal to the Andrias point just to get a rise out of Leon. In the end, for presumably reasons similar to the ones that got the Colette Toxic Friend Influence idea cut, this idea also swiftly went to the cutting room floor. A-LionGleek has since come to develop the exact same embarrassment about coming up with this idea and relief over it ultimately getting cut that he has for the Colette Toxic Friend Influence idea.
  • Moythomasia was initially amongst the animals planned to be rescued in Devils of the Deep while the chapter was in the planning stages. But over the course of actually writing the chapter, both writers came to realize that the creature in question was a freshwater species and thus logically unable to be present in the ocean with the other animals on the list. And while A-LionGleek was initially willing to create an undiscovered saltwater species of moythomasia for the sake of salvaging a rescue for it, he ultimately came to agree with Nathanoraptor's decision that it would be easier to just remove the animal from the rescue list for that mission altogether, and so it was discarded from the list.
  • The undiscovered Devonian anomalocariids present in Devils of the Deep were initially planned to be an animal that was first identified on the provided rescue list by Nathanoraptor as 'Minya'. A-LionGleek's subsequent (immensely difficult) attempts at finding the animal that actually corresponded with this name at one point seemingly resulted in him finding an apparent Devonian period ocean dwelling beetle called 'Minia'. Unfortunately, when both Nathanoraptor and A-LionGleek proved incapable of finding this 'minia' at all over the course of their making the finishing touches for Devils of the Deep, they both decided to just turn the creature into an entirely undiscovered species altogether. Hence the undiscovered Devonian anomalocariids were born.
  • A-LionGleek initially planned for the dimetrodon, secodontosaurus, and sphenacodon to live in packs together while having Rommel be a rogue initially unaffiliated with the pack that the rest of the dimetrodon would have been living in together. However, when Nathanoraptor decided to incorporate multiple elements of behavior seen in modern day alligators, the idea of the dimetrodon, secodontosaurus, and sphenacodon living in packs together was swiftly discarded as a result of the alligator tendency to only aggregate temporarily during times of feeding to be incorporated into the behavior of the three sphenacodont species.
  • In the time that the dimetrodon were supposed to be living in a pack and Rommel was supposed to be a rogue, Rommel was initially supposed to be the only dimetrodon causing trouble for the staff and the reasoning behind this (aside from his established natural Hair-Trigger Temper and similarly high agression) was intended to be that he was acting out and trying to maintain his independence from the larger unaffiliated pack as well as his dominance over his own personal 'territory' separate from said pack within the same enclosure. Furthermore, as a particularly strong showing of just how badly Rommel's behavior was starting to become in this original draft, he was initially planned to go so far as to savagely chase after and try to attack Matt after catching Matt in his 'territory' while in the midst of feeding him. And furthermore, the problems were initially intended to be resolved via Rommel actively doing battle with (and being defeated by) his future mate Otrera (who would have been the official alpha female of the pack). However, when the idea of the dimetrodon living in a consistent existing pack was discarded in favor of them (plus the sphenacodon and secodontosaurus) only temporarily aggregating together during times of feeding like alligators, all these plans were changed so that all of the dimetrodon (or at least all of the adult males) were acting more aggressively than usual instead of only Rommel doing so, the reasoning behind the heightened aggression was changed to it being a result of them engaging in mating season behavior, and the planned battle between Otrera and Rommel (as well as any explicitly violent behavior on Rommel's or any other dimetrodon's part) was quickly scrapped.
  • A-LionGleek initially believed during the chapter's planning stages that the events in the Devonian period during Devils of the Deep would unfold over the course of a single day and night, plus a subsequent morning, before the rescue team and Ancient Mariner crew returned to the park. Nathanoraptor subsequently chose, as per his own personal preferences for the majority of the story's missions, to have the events in the Devonian period unfold over the course of a single day and night. Similarly, the weather in the Devonian period was initially planned to be perfectly pleasant the entire mission. But this was changed so that a storm would unfold over the course of the final scenes in the Devonian period when Nathanoraptor suggested that this happen and A-LionGleek realized that this would heighten the drama and tension of the scenes in which the storm would be unfolding.
  • Before the storm was added into the chapter, the reason behind Kira and Stavros not being present on the upper deck of the Ancient Mariner to watch over Jack and Leon and prevent their subsequent final scuffle from either getting to out of hand or even happening at all was initially planned by A-LionGleek to be them having to help the rest of the crew resolve a dangerous situation unfolding in the ship's boiler room. When the storm was added into the chapter, A-LionGleek swiftly agreed to Nathanoraptor's suggestion to have them be working to help keep the ship steady and afloat instead when he realized that this idea arguably worked much better as a result of it feeling much more dramatic and compelling for the events going on in the chapter.
  • A-LionGleek initially planned for the portal grenade to be introduced in Devils of the Deep. Nathanoraptor, however, chose to instead introduce it in South of Heaven. Similarly, Nathanoraptor initially planned for Drew to summon the portal with his portal remote right as he was in the midst of finally being yanked up to safety away from them and the four fish were swimming upwards to try to snap at him. But on A-LionGleek's request, he chose to allow this to be changed so that Drew would rescue them via throwing down a portal grenade at them immediately after being safely extracted from the ocean and placed back on the Ancient Mariner's upper deck.
  • A-LionGleek initially really wanted Jack and Leon to physically come to blows over the course of their final clash. His reasoning behind this was because he felt that it would both allow Prehistoric Park Reimagined's version of these events to stand out more from the version of those same events present in Prehistoric Earth as well as that it would add even more dramatic weight and meaningfulness to the duo's eventual planned fire forged friendship. For undisclosed reasons on Nathanoraptor's end that A-LionGleek was nonetheless willing to respect, the final clash remained exclusively verbal based (but not without Leon coming immensely close to punching Jack in the face before he and Jack became aware of Drew's plight).
  • Jack's scene with Kaa at the beginning of Truce wasn't present in the original draft.
  • A-LionGleek wrote the initial drafts for Soothing Seas and Creature Comforts under the intent of the latter taking place first before the former. Nathanoraptor, however, switched the order for what A-LionGleek currently presumes to be the sake of better narrative flow.
  • Jack, Leon, and Yolanda's work with the titanichthys in Building Bridges were initially going to unfold somewhat similarly to Leon and Jack's work with the same species in Prehistoric Earth's version of Alien Empire in A-LionGleek's original draft. More specifically, the trio were going to be tasked with 'playing cupid' for the titanichthys (this was at a time in which A-LionGleek had initially thought that only two titanichthys would be rescued), end up accidentally given an appropriate animal husbandry book by Mia that was in Russian instead of English, attempt for a couple minutes to hurriedly attempt to find a means of getting a comprehensible translation, and then end up forced to resort to an Indy Ploy (which, unlike in Prehistoric Earth, would have actually been shown to the readers or at the very least given a similar proper explanation on what happened to result in the group's success). Nathanoraptor, however, chose to change things up in a way that he felt would allow for heightened sincerity and emotional payoff; a reasoning that A-LionGleek saw zero reason to argue against.
  • In the event that the two above mentioned ideas involving Jack, Yolanda, and Colette that A-LionGleek has since come to utterly regret ever thinking up in the first place and feel glad never made the cut had been made canon, Yolanda's working with Leon and Jack in Building Bridges would have served as a payoff to the 'arc' that would have been introduced in said ideas via Jack coming to admit to initial misjudging of Yolanda and willingly accepting the chance of the two of them properly becoming friends. Naturally, with the two ideas that this payoff would have been used for having hit the cutting room floor, the payoff idea itself was naturally also altered into something more appropriate for what had ultimately happened in the final product in the previous chapters.
  • The smilodon gracilis duo rescued in Building Bridges were initially planned in initial drafts to be a five-member group of barbourofelis/Barbour's cats. However, when Nathanoraptor and A-LionGleek both realized that barbourofelis was already long extinct by the point in time in which Drew and the gang dropped by to rescue the castoroides (and didn't have the 'just short enough time gap' that had previously justified the appearance of phorusrhacos being present alongside the smilodon populator in Red in Tooth and Claw), the five barbourofelis were accordingly changed into the two smilodon gracilis rescued in the final product.
  • Working titles for Building Bridges were 'Big Dam Beavers', 'Leave it to Beavers', and 'Bonds and Bridges'. Similarly other working titles for previous chapters included 'Raging Seas' (for Devils of the Deep), 'Dimetrodon a Dozen (for South of Heaven), 'A Bug's Life in its Prime' (for Alien Empire), 'Sinking Sensations' (for Oozing From the Pit), and 'Of Fangs and Feathers' (for Red in Tooth and Claw).
  • A-LionGleek initially intended for there to be a male petrolacosaurus named Lubbock living alongside Larry and the other rescued petrolacosaurus for the sake of a token Mythology Gag to Prehistoric Earth. And when Larry subsequently got given the role that Nathanoraptor had initially wanted Lubbock to have in Prehistoric Earth before suffering from a veto by Luczynski, A-LionGleek was initially perfectly willing to subject Larry to Decomposite Character status with Lubbock. But then he peacefully changed his mind about the existence of a petrolacosaurus named 'Lubbock' being in existence in Prehistoric Park Reimagined's continuity when Nathanoraptor eventually made it clear that he now wished to have Larry be 100% Lubbock's counterpart in the continuity with no other petrolacosaurus named Lubbock being in the picture.
  • During the early writing stages for Of Scales and Feathers, the rescue list included only 27 species before eventually ballooning up to 43 species by the time the final product was finished and posted. A-LionGleek also initially planned for 13 cladosictis, only 2 mourasuchus, and 7 patagosmilus to be rescued before the cladosictis group got reduced to 4, the patagosmilus got reduced to 5, and the mourasuchus got expanded to 4 (the last of these being a result of Nathanoraptor writing the scene in which the mourasuchus go through the portal in a way that made it look to A-LionGleek as if he'd envisioned there being more than 2 mourasuchus present in the area going through the portal). And furthermore, A-LionGleek initially suggested 'Gods of La Pampa Plains' as the title for the episode in reference to how kelenken are technically named after a god or demon from a form of South American mythology and was allowed to believe for a very long time that this suggestion would ultimately be the title given in the final product before Nathanoraptor eventually revealed very late in the game that he instead planned to name it Of Scales and Feathers.
  • Going by a scene featured in the teaser at the end of Building Bridges that ultimately didn't make it into the final cut, there were initially plans on A-LionGleek's end for one of the purussaurus to end up snapping Drew, Alice, and Adrian's canoe in half with its jaws.
  • The patagosmilus were initially planned to successfully take down and kill an elderly homalodotherium amongst the herd they'd caused to stampede. Nathanoraptor, however, chose to instead have all the homalodotherium get away and the patagosmilus be rescued over the course of their efforts at subsequently trying to feast upon an already dead astrapotherium when he realized that, due to similar cases of carnivores successfully taking down and killing an elderly individual amongst a herd they cause to stampede having already occurred multiple times beforehand, this particular plot device was starting to look overdone. A-LionGleek has also mentioned that he initially envisioned the moment in which Drew attempts to get the kelenken sent through the portal, only to end up surrounded by and attacked by them, unfold slightly differently in his original draft than it ultimately did in the final product.
  • A-LionGleek initially suggested for the speculative terrestrial crocodilian species introduced in Of Scales and Feathers to be called tlalocisuchus before Nathanoraptor informed him that he wished for them to instead be named after the similar terrestrial crocodilian from King Kong (2005) they were already designed to resemble. The original idea for their genus name was lightheartedly referenced in the dialogue exchanged between Leon and the young researcher trio in the scene in which the terrestrial crocodilians have their newly determined genus name revealed to the readers. Furthermore, A-LionGleek also initially planned for the plumadaemon to have the species name 'shorzbergi' and for the dialogue between Kaisumi and her companions that led to their name being decided upon by Khatin involving Kaisumi being explicitly frightened by them before Nathanoraptor chose to instead have the species name be 'pinguis' and for the dialogue that earned the birds their genus name to instead involve them having a hellish bad odor rather than looking scary.
  • Before Nathanoraptor finally settled on naming the orphaned La Brea caracara and theriodictis Hayabusa and Mdogo (respectively), initially suggested names for them by A-LionGleek were Sinew and Dodger (which Nathanoraptor did ultimately allow his cowriter to give to them as placeholders over the course of the writing for The Oddities).
  • The original working title for The Oddities suggested by A-LionGleek was Majunga Madness.
  • In the original outline A-LionGleek wrote and suggested for The Oddities, Jack's scene at the dromaeosaurus paddock directly before his mission debriefing with Leon and Drew would have included him being wished luck by Colette (said 'wishing of luck' by Colette ultimately ended up unfolding at the portal site immediately before Jack left through the portal with Leon and Drew in the final product). Leon would have then had a scene at Diego and Shira's in which he both got wished luck by Yolanda and taken notice of Shira 'behaving differently' as a setup for Shira's later pregnancy by Diego before heading off to meet Drew for the debriefing. From there, the masiakasaurus would have been the very first Maevarano Cretaceous animals rescued (and they would have been fishing at a creek) before the group would have then arrived at a drying up pond and water hole where the beelzebufo, simosuchus, vintana, rahonavis, and rapetosaurus would have been located. At this drying up water hole, the vintana would have been successfully brought through the portal before Goliath the adult male majungasaurus would have then arrived and scared the rest of the animals, prompting Leon to hurriedly get in front of the simosuchus in time for them to rush through his portal, Jack to use a portal grenade to account for the beelzebufo, and Drew to summon his portal directly in front of the rest of the stampeding animals in time for the rapetosaurus, rahonavis, and Goliath to all come charging through. After that, there would have been the back at the park scene with Colette and Hannibal before then switching to a scene involving Tina and a newly introduced minor mammal carnivore keeper named Lesedi Venter (who was intended to play a minorly prominent role later in the story) working with the Florida jaguars or borhyaena. Meanwhile, back at the Cretaceous Maevarano formation, the rescue team would have then encountered and rescued a pair of adolescent majungasaurus (one male and one female) fighting each other over a juvenile rapetosaurus carcass, four madtsoia, and a few other species of animal before eventually coming across a herd of vahiny trapped between the dahalokely pack and the mahajangasuchus float. The mahajangasuchus, for that matter, would have behaved a lot more similarly to typical crocodilians the way they'd been portrayed behaving in DaDog's Back From the Ashes story that provided inspiration for the chapter instead of like terrestrial crocodilians the way they do in the final product. Then, back at the park, Linda and Yolanda would have been seen performing a checkup on Shira and discovering her pregnancy immediately before Terrence and Matilda's especially serious fight would have then occurred (with Matilda herself ending up bursting into Terrence's area similarly to how she'd done as much in the original series due to the initial plan being for them to have already been separated at that point as they'd been in the context of the original show) and necessitated them and the other vets getting Terrence's surgery taken care of. Then, back in Madagascar, Leon would have rushed into action and used a portal grenade to send the mahajangasuchus to the park and then triggered the vahiny herd into stampeding through the portal through use of a sauropod recording on his broadcasting device, which would have resulted in them and the dahalokely all stampeding in through the portal and to the park (and all while Drew would have at first tried to intervene and prevent Leon from doing all this, only for Jack to convince him to let Leon handle things, even going so far as to say 'give him a fucking chance alright?'). The back at the park segment after this would have involved Adrian and Kaisumi at the quetzalcoatlus aviary for Cirrus and Zephyr's fight similarly to how they end up doing in the final product and also the scene of Khatin handling a pair of abandoned ornithomimus eggs. Back in Madagascar, the team would have come across the mother majungasaurus (who would have had three hatchlings instead of two) battling a completely unrelated adult male to defend her offspring as a nod to the final mission scenes in the majungasaurus mission from Back From the Ashes. But unlike the version of this event in Back From the Ashes (which A-LionGleek had since come to view as rather needlessly grim and tragic for its own sake rather than any meaningful purpose over the years that had followed his reading of that story), the scene would have unfolded with Drew attracting the attention of both adult majungasaurus while Leon and Jack would have attracted the juveniles through the portal. Then the adult male would have ended up positioned by a nearby river in time to roar challengingly at both the female AND Drew before then being caught by a mahajangasuchus the way the mother in a similar situation in Back From the Ashes had ended up, and then the female would have gone after Drew (who would have tripped up on a tree root) before being attracted into going after Leon and Jack and through the portal the way she and her larger posse ended up attracted through in the final product. And one of the very last scenes would have been a resolution to Adrian and Alice's unresolved Ship Tease tension. Ultimately, the order of the animals rescued was switched around, the scenes involving Shira and the ornithomimus eggs under Khatin's care got moved to the subsequent chapter D-Bags, the masiakasaurus were encountered scavenging upon a dead carcass far away from water instead of at a creek, the mahajangasuchus behaved like terrestrial crocodilians instead of like the miadanasuchus, the two adolescent majungasaurus was reduced to one, the mother's offspring were reduced from three to two, and the fight between the mother majungasaurus was changed to unfold against an adolescent male who ultimately ended up getting successfully driven off without getting killed and then almost immediately afterward getting attacked by Goliath; among other changes.
  • In the later version of the draft A-LionGleek worked on, the plot largely unfolded the way it ultimately does in the final product. However, in this version of the plot, Leon had a scene with Yolanda showing up to wish him luck right outside the main staff headquarters before the debriefing occurring directly before Jack's scene with the dromaeosaurus pack (as A-LionGleek had felt it would only be fair for as much to happen since Jack was already being given a scene of getting wished luck by Colette before departing for the Cretaceous Maevarano formation and this mission was just as much Leon's first mission back on active rescue duty following the post Devils of the Deep suspension as it was Jack's). This suggestion, plus a couple other scenes involving Leon mentioned below were deleted by Nathanoraptor on the grounds that their inclusion put the story at risk of becoming too highly focused on Leon at the expense of the rest of the cast (which A-LionGleek came to admit was a fair concern). As a compromise though, Nathanoraptor did allow for there to be implication of such a scene having happened offscreen via allowing a minor scene involving Leon and Yolanda interacting immediately after Leon arrives back home from the Cretaceous period that A-LionGleek had written as a follow up to the deleted scene to still be present in the final product.
  • A-LionGleek also initially planned for Jack and Leon's Campfire Character Exploration to be much longer and include several additional details that he felt would help add emotional weight to the scene. Nathanoraptor deleted the additional details under the reasoning that he planned for a similar conversation to unfold between the two at the end of a then upcoming chapter that he felt would potentially be a more appropriate point for those details to potentially be included.
  • Furthermore, A-LionGleek also initially tried to change things so that Leon started properly pulling his weight as early as the madtsoia rescue and similarly continue as much during the rescue of the miadanasuchus due to believing that the seemingly rather limited amount of times that Leon properly participated and pulled his weight in Nathanoraptor's original draft seemed to be enforcing Leon's earlier status as The Load, which A-LionGleek considered to be rather jarring to occur so relatively soon after Leon and Jack's peptalk that was designed to reassure Leon that he was starting to properly move past this status. Nathanoraptor switched it back to how he'd initially written it under the reasoning that his plans for Leon to wait until the rescue of Goliath and the adolescent male majungasaurus before finally starting to properly pull his weight would have more dramatic weight.
  • Nathanoraptor also initially wrote his version of the draft in ways that indicated that Leon went on the mission without bringing his noise broadcasting device with him. A-LionGleek added the device in during his own work on the draft under the reasoning that it would only be appropriate for Leon to continue bringing it along and making use of it as a result of how useful it was for him and that it had never been his plan for Leon to ever stop using it altogether.
  • Several other scenes that were initially worked on by A-LionGleek were also somewhat more detailed or unfolded differently than in the final product. Linda and Colette's thoughts on their respective animal companions featured in the chapter, for example, were initially more detailed and in-depth before Nathanoraptor streamlined the scene for the sake of pacing. Presumed similar pacing reasons resulted in the deletion of a moment in Alice's scene with the American cheetah in which Eshe was noted to be spending a lot of time with Duma in ways that indicated she was potentially considering mating with him (an aspect that A-LionGleek now hopes to incorporate elsewhere in the continuity) as well as a moment of Sirocco seemingly showing an interest in Zephyr immediately after his duel against and defeat by Cirrus (which later ended up refitted in a different form in subsequent chapter D-Bags).
  • Alice and Tina's scene with Mdogo in The Oddities was initially written by A-LionGleek to involve them hanging around in Alice's flat while the former tossed a ball for Mdogo to play with and for Alice to be worried and uncertain about allowing Mdogo to undergo his planned integration attempt while Tina pointed out how much an integration would be ultimately better for Mdogo in the end. on A-LionGleek's own suggestion (due to him feeling that he hadn't quite brought his A-game to his writing for that scene), Nathanoraptor altered the scene as he saw fit. Furthermore, A-LionGleek also initially had the distaste expressed at Drew's Head-in-the-Sand Management by Collete and Jack's quartet of herper buddies be considerably stronger, and was also initially responsible for writing a scene involving Drew being informed of Terrence's getting brutally attacked by Matilda and the subsequent need for the two siblings and their parents to be separated. However, due to A-LionGleek himself eventually beginning to feel that his efforts at writing those particular scenes were now becoming at risk of derailing a planned future plot point to occur much later in the story, Nathanoraptor was ultimately given the task to take care of things from there; at which point the distaste was somewhat more comparatively downplayed and the moment in which Drew was informed of the details involving the t. rex situation was written to have occurred off screen before the chapter ended with him visiting Terrence at the veterinary facility and assuring him that he'd put up a good fight against Matilda.
  • Finally, A-LionGleek initially planned for the fact that the majungasaurus mission was a 'request based mission' to receive a form of Reality Subtext in The Oddities by virtue of the majungasaurus being the target animal ending up having been suggested by an unseen Novum board member named in a way similar to the pen name of the reader who'd suggested the request, for the adolescent male majungasaurus to be dubbed Donnie, and for there to be a scene over the course of the 'establishing shots' of all the newly rescued Cretaceous Maevarano formation animals in their new exhibit homes at the park in which one of Jack's herper buddies was shown showing clear interest in the beelzebufo as Foreshadowing for a planned later bond between said keeper and the beelzebufo named Kermit. Ultimately, the suggested Reality Subtext was turned down on account of seeming more 'irritatingly meta' than humorously meta, the adolescent male majungasaurus was left nameless in the final product for the sake of a later planned (and so far undisclosed) plot point involving it, and the setup for Kermit's bond with one of the keepers was scrapped for later for the sake of pacing.
  • Initial working titles for D-Bags were Crocodile Hunters and Every Golden Scale. The former was willingly scrapped by A-LionGleek (despite it being his own idea) when he decided that it sounded too underwhelming in favor of Every Golden Scale (which had been the title of the deinosuchus episode in Prehistoric Earth). But then the latter was itself scrapped by Nathanoraptor when it was pointed out by Nathanoraptor that Every Golden Scale had been an appropriate title in the context of that mission in Prehistoric Earth for reasons that were nonexistent at the point in which a similar mission was now occurring in Prehistoric Park Reimagined; at which point Nathanoraptor eventually chose D-Bags as the final set in stone title for the mission.
  • As for the plot of D-Bags, A-LionGleek initially planned for one of the adult parasaurolophus to be successfully chomped up and killed by a deinosuchus back in the Cretaceous period, the talos pack to be rescued via portal grenade, for there to be an implication of said talos pack having previously attempted to raid the rescue team's jeep while they were gone prior to the pack's later raid on their campsite at night, a hadrosaur recording from Leon's broadcasting device to be used alongside Drew's oar technique used to lure the deinosuchus into the trap, for Cranky to be a male like his namesake, and for A-LionGleek's initially planned resolution for Alice and Adrian's Ship Tease arc to be refitted for one of the scenes at the end of the chapter. For undisclosed reasons, Nathanoraptor changed the originally planned luckless adult parasaurolophus into a youngster and allowed it to successfully (albeit narrowly) avoid getting caught and killed by the deinosuchus. For likewise undisclosed reasons, Nathanoraptor removed the implication of the talos having previously attempted to raid the rescue team's jeep while they were gone in favor of having the night raid by the talos on the rescue team's campsite be the very first time the talos had any sort of involvement with the rescue team, and also turned Cranky into a female. The planned portal grenade rescue on the talos was ultimately refitted into being used on the saurornitholestes instead by A-LionGleek himself after Nathanoraptor wrote the talos rescue scene in a way that the standard portal gate was used instead of the grenade while leaving the writing for the saurornitholestes rescue entirely open for A-LionGleek to decide how to write and allow to unfold. The hadrosaur recording being used as part of the bait for the deinosuchus trap alongside Drew's antics with the oar was similarly willingly scrapped by A-LionGleek after he noticed that the broadcasting device recordings had at this point already been used for what would seemingly be a perfectly acceptable amount of times that wouldn't leave it seeming redundant. And finally, Nathanoraptor chose to have the planned resolution for Alice and Adrian's Ship Tease arc to once again be scrapped due to how the resolution in question involved it being done and over with after only a single discussion on the matter between Alice and Adrian occurring immediately after the latter finally confessed about his attraction, which he pointed out to his cowriter was not necessarily the most realistic means for such an arc to be resolved (particularly since said Ship Tease had not even really been a major component of the season's main storylines to begin with at this point), with the implication that a proper exploration and resolution of this arc would perhaps be provided during a later phase of the story.
  • Finally, Nathanoraptor initially wrote some of the rescue scenes in D-Bags in ways that seemingly indicated the gate version of the portal used in the original Prehistoric Park and DaDog's Back From the Ashes being used instead of the previously established remote summoned version of the portal. A-LionGleek corrected this error over the course of his own work on the draft.
