Trivia / Prehistoric Park: Returned from Extinction

Go To

  • Schedule Slip: Owing to the author devoting his focus to working on Conquest in the Name of Advancement!. Now reversed - this story is getting updated at the expense of Conquest. Given the major Wham Episode in The Land Outside Of Time, this was likely because the author wanted to make sure they were in the right place to crossover.
  • Science Marches On:
    • The story features large, crested and toothed pterosaurs in New Blood, based upon fossils found in Utah from roughly the same time period. Said fossils were finally named in 2018 as Caelstiventus, a dimorphodont, which lacks a head crest, and also had a different jaw design than the ones shown in the series.
    • Big Al is classified in-story as an Allosaurus fragilis. Come 2020, and his species was determined to be from a different species, A. jimmadseni. A Retcon followed swiftly.
  • What Could Have Been: The end of chapter trivia includes several scenes that ultimately didn't make the cut.
    • Originally, the gomphothere Stegomastodon was going to appear during Saving the Sabertooth. The author chose not to feature it because there were too many species already in that chapter.
    • The rescue of the mosasaurs in Fused Shell was a last minute add in, as the author wanted more tension during the final scenes.
    • On a lesser note, the botanist Pamela was originally supposed to be one of the park's nurses, and has also gone on record to state that the park does have medical staff specialized in caring for humans. The change in occupations was because he felt that it would make more sense for a botanist to know whether or not a certain prehistoric plant is toxic.
    • Amphicoelias fragilimus was supposed to show up in Time of the Titans, but was replaced with Maarapunisaurus. This is because the former was actually reclassified into the latter.
    • The team was actually supposed to see the tsunami that killed off quite a few dinosaurs in Time of the Titans, but it was cut do to the fact they likely wouldn't have been able to escape before it hit them.
  • Word of God:
    • Regarding the Prehistoric Dragon, it is about as big as an Albertosaurus or Daspletosaurus, as the author felt a creature the size and weight of a Tyrannosaurus rex being able to fly would be rather ridiculous.
    • The author has stated that some of the tests of the time portal not mentioned in the story include preventing the formation of Al-Qaeda, averting the Trail of Tears, and heading off the assassination of Franz Ferdinand. Like all the other tests, these changes did not alter the timeline. Rather, they created alternate timelines.
    • The Jurassic Beetle Queen encountered in Titans of Land and Sea is at roughly its maximum size, as the one in the show was way too big to exist in the Jurassic Period.
    • The crossover with Jurassic Park had been planned since the beginning of the story.
    • The Allosaurus that was acting aggressive to the Ceratosaurus pack is Santo.
    • Unless otherwise stated, animals in this story that appear in the game Prehistoric Kingdom have the same color scheme and appearance as their versions in-game, since Nigel Marven worked on both Prehistoric Park and Prehistoric Kingdom.
