Trivia / Moon Lovers

Go To

  • Foreign Remake: It's a South Korean remake of a Chinese series.
  • Setting Update: The novel and original series are set in Qing-dynasty China. This series changes the setting to Goryeo-dynasty Korea.
  • Similarly Named Works: Moon Lovers is also the title of a 2010 Japanese series. Luckily that one's also known as Tsuki no Koibito, which lessens the possibility of confusion.
  • Spell My Name With An S: Many of the characters' names have multiple spellings, thanks to the varying transliteration systems for Korean names.
    • Hae-soo's name is also spelled Hae-su.
    • Wang Wook's name is also spelled Wang Uk.
    • Wang Moo's name is also spelled Wang Mu.
    • Wang Jung's name is also spelled Wang Jeong.
  • Time-Shifted Actor: Lee Joon-gi plays Wang So as an adult and Hong Dong-young plays him as a child.
  • Underage Casting: Averted when Ha-jin first arrives in the past, since the characters are roughly the same age as their actors, but played straight later. Ha-jin spends at least twenty years in the past, but virtually no one visibly ages during that time. Reaches ridiculous levels in the epilogue, which takes place several years after Ha-jin's death but shows Baek-ah and Wang So looking exactly the same as they did over twenty years earlier.
  • Working Title: Its first working title was Moon Lovers. Later that was changed to Scarlet Heart: Ryeo. Eventually someone decided to combine the two and came up with Moon Lovers — Scarlet Heart Ryeo.
