Trivia / MacGyver (2016)

Go To

  • Actor Allusion:
    • In "Compass", Jack Dalton says something about CSI mumbo jumbo. George Eads (Jack) has starred in over 300 episodes of CSI, plus various spinoffs.
    • In "Flashlight", the team is discussing what should be done for Mac's birthday, and Jack brings up monster trucks. Lucas Till (Mac) has the starring role in Monster Trucks, which had wrapped up filming several months prior.
  • Adam Westing: In the Season 4 episode "Mac + Desi + Riley + Aubrey," all four cast members from the hidden camera show Impractical Jokers guest star; James "Murr" Murray as a haughty (unnamed) restaurant maitre'd, Sal Vulcano as the theatrical Chef Salvatore, Brian "Q" Quinn as a restaurant patron named Dale who slips Mac a candy bar and chats briefly with him, and Joe Gatto as a bartender named Larry.
  • Follow the Leader: To Hawaii Five-0, another retro action series rebooted by CBS.
  • California Doubling:
    • It's clear in "Metal Saw" that the DMZ depicted isn't full of forests and grass.
    • "Awl" clearly doesn't show Labuan in the proper light, aside from aerial shots.
    • "Wire Cutter" doesn't show Turkey at all in the introduction.
  • Casting Gag: In "Murdoc & Handcuffs", Mac and Jack are trying to get a captive Murdoch to safety. They're soon hunted by Murdoch's own psychotic mentor...played by Michael Des Barres, who was Murdoch on the original series.
  • Troubled Production:
    • There were some episodes where George wasn't present due to on-set problems with Eads and (at least) with one production crew member. Although recent news indicates that he wants to spend quality time with his family with the show being filmed in Atlanta, Georgia, meaning that he'll be out by 2019 after the episode "Father + Bride + Betrayal". There is indication that it can be possible for him to return when the time comes. As of Season 5, the production crew has written Jack off as being killed. Fans are divided by this idea.
    • Due to the coronavirus spreading in America, production was halted for season 4 for 20 episodes instead of 22.
    • It was reported that Peter Lenkov was abusive and bullied most of the cast and crew on set. Lucas Til revealed that at one point, he contemplated the possibility of killing himself. Lenkov's lawyer refuted allegations of bullying, but he is replaced as of 2020 by Monica Macer.
  • What Could Have Been: The show was supposed to have a sixth season and it would have explored another method of killing the nanobots inside of Mac and Riley. Also, the producers were exploring the idea that Desi's fiance was still alive and said arc would be inspired by Black Hawk Down.
