Trivia / Doctor Who S29 E13 "Last of the Time Lords"

Go To

  • Colbert Bump: Scissor Sisters' "I Can't Decide" saw a bump in popularity after the episode made it the Master's Villain Song.
  • The Danza: Tom Ellis as Tom Milligan.
  • Deleted Scene:
    • It was initially planned to have the Master taunt the Doctor with the fact that it was ultimately his interference with the timeline, such as causing Harriet Jones' untimely downfall, that allowed for Harold Saxon to become Prime Minister. Russell T Davies decided that this reminder that the whole thing was the Doctor's fault was too much of a downer in an already depressing episode, as well as potentially being too obscure a continuity reference for casual viewers, and could never find a place to put the revelation where it felt natural.
    • Before leaving the Doctor, Jack recites the "the 21st century is when it all changes and you've got to be ready" monologue heard at the beginning of all Torchwood episodes. It was meant to poke fun at said speeches, but was cut for distracting from his departure. "Fragments" would later reveal that Jack is, perhaps subconsciously, paraphrasing the last words of former Torchwood Three member Alex Hopkins.
  • Edited for Syndication:
    • Scenes were edited out of the original American broadcast to get it down to time, including the entire sequence where the Master dances to "I Can't Decide", and oddly enough the line where a passing space ship states that Planet Earth is closed. This version also inadvertently made its way onto Netflix.
    • These scenes are also left out from the French edition of the DVDs, along with Martha's mother trying to shoot the Master, and Martha visiting the people she met during the Year That Never Was.
  • Shrug of God:
    • Russell T Davies has been very coy on if Jack really is the Face of Boe, saying the line was mostly a joke. But most of the fandom prefer to think Jack will become the Face of Boe eventually.
    • For a while this was also the case with the female hand picking up the Master's ring, which Davies openly stated was put in simply as a generic Sequel Hook to give future writers somewhere to start from if they wanted to bring the Master back, and he had no plans for it himself. Then he decided to resolve it himself at the end of his tenure.
  • Uncredited Role: This episode has two directors. Colin Teague was injured after falling down some stairs and some scenes with Martha in the episode were finished off by Graeme Harper.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Leo Jones was supposed to return from the last episode, reuniting with Martha and introducing her to Milligan. Reggie Yates’ schedule however only allowed him one day of recording, so the scenes were cut.
    • Downing Street was much more important, being where the last of Martha’s decoy chemicals were stored. Russell T Davies wanted to explore the ramifications under the Master’s regime, so he put more focus on Professor Docherty instead.
