Trivia / Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2

Go To

  • Cowboy BeBop at His Computer: A few articles mistook and posted images of Yuri's campaign from Mental Omega 2.0, a mod of Yuri's Revenge, as screenshots from the vanilla game.
  • Demand Overload: Electronic Arts' "On the House" promotion would allow users of Origin to claim a game for free within a one-week period. Red Alert 2 was offered starting on September 16th of 2015, and had to be pulled within 24 hours because the demand nearly killed their servers.
  • Distanced from Current Events: Following the September 11 attacks, rereleases of the game removed the American flag and the New York skyline on fire from the box cover.
  • Dummied Out:
    • The European game box of Yuri's Revenge included a description of the Chrono Prison. The box was the only place where it could be found, but Game Mods such as Mental Omega have restored it to a playable status.
    • The Crazy Ivan has a death animation, seen in the files, that is normally obscured by a skull-shaped explosion; his body parts scatter around. While bloodless, this death animation is noticeably gory, hence the decision to cover it.
  • Fake Nationality: On the Soviet side, Aleksandra Kaniak (Zofia), Udo Kier (Yuri), and Nicholas Worth (Romanov) are respectively a Pole, German, and American portraying Russians. The Allied side have French General Rene Lyon, the Korean Navy Admiral and German scientist Albert Einstein respectively portrayed by a Belgian (Frank Bruynbroek), a Japanese-American (Richard Narita) and an American (Larry Gelman).
  • Multiple Languages, Same Voice Actor: Udo Kier reprises his role as Yuri in the German dub of the game.
  • Screwed by the Lawyers: Patch 1.001 for Yuri's Revenge disabled the unique voice lines for the Hollywood action heroes in "Hollywood and Vain", replacing them with the generic GI voice set and their names to something even more vague. This was done presumably to avoid any litigation from the actors Westwood parodied, which is strange considering the numerous other pop culture references present both in the base game and in Yuri's Revenge, one of them being the Brute unit as a thinly-veiled Hulk expy.
  • You Look Familiar:
    • Athena Massey (Allied EVA) appeared in Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun as Brink, a Bridge Bunny who pilots GDI's Kodiak.
    • Nicholas Worth (Premier Romanov) appeared in the Firestorm expansion of the same game as one of the members of Nod's inner circle.
