Trivia / Blackadder S 1 E 3 The Archbishop

• Creator's Favourite Episode: Richard Curtis and Tony Robinson have both said that the scene in which Edmund, Baldrick and Percy talk about curses and relics is their favourite scene from the first series.
• Deleted Scene: Among the scenes cut from the final broadcast version was a scene in which Prince Harry consults his newly consecrated brother on the pressing ecclesisatical issues of the day, such as the castration of choirboys and the torture of talkative women. Also cut from the programme was a valedictory soliloquy by Edmund as he prepares to go into exile, bidding farewell to the castle turrets, and King Richard preaching an angry sermon from the pulpit at the funeral of the dead Archbishop Godfrey (footage from which was instead used as part of the episode's title sequence).
• The Other Marty: William Russell was a last-minute replacement for Wilfrid Brambell in the role of the Duke of Winchester. Brambell walked off set after becoming impatient with delays in shooting the scene. Russell was credited as Russell Enoch.
• Uncredited Role: Perry Benson as an Italian priest.
