The Story of Spider-Man is the story of struggle. Even if you're a legendary hero.

     Year 1
  • No matter the universe, the death of Uncle Ben is never easy for anyone. Especially in this universe where the parkers are a part of a community of friends.
  • After losing Uncle Ben, Peter's emotionally devastated. Even thinking of never becoming a hero. It's fortunate that Julia Carpenter stepped in to help give him a pep talk, because otherwise, Spider-Man might never have come to be.
  • The first and quickest way for Peter and Tony to connect? Both of them are living under the shadow of regret in losing someone who they cared about in their superhero origin.
  • The sad regret of Gwen Stacy as she realizes that she did hold an attraction for Peter just as he started going out with Liz Allen.
  • Even though it came from a more shallow place, Peter and Liz breaking up is a hard thing for Peter in losing his first love.

     Year 2
  • Mary Jane burdened by hard expectations. That she gets stuck in the unenviable position of keeping secrets about her friends from all the others. So much so, that it eventually leads to her and Harry breaking up because he can't trust someone who won't be honest with him.
    • MJ takes the breakup hard enough that she worries something's wrong with herself. That with her hard home life, she doesn't know if she's capable of a long term relationship.
  • The death of George Stacy.
    • He did his duty, fighting for the Spiders and got a sword to the stomach for his trouble.
    • Then Cloak managed to teleport him to a hospital, but even then, his age and the wound were too much. And Rio Morales has to give the hard news that George will die.
  • Hank Pym decides to make a Heroic Sacrifice to save the world from Ultron. Shrinking him and his creation into the Microverse in order to prevent him from destroying humanity.
    • Janet perhaps rightfully says that while it wasn't intended, Tony Stark bears some of the blame for Hank's death.
    • This is something Tony even agrees with somewhat. Causing him to quit the avengers, and withdraw into himself.

     Year 3
  • Peter having to snap Tony out of his funk. Despite it being months since Ultron, Tony's disinterest and self loathing really hurt him and his company in the process.
  • Aaron Davis feeling he has no choice but to do Kingpin's bidding in order to protect his family. And just after getting out and starting to make good with them.
    • Miles is so distraught over finding out the truth, he decides he can't tell his spider team anything. A far cry from the openness they had before.
    • And when they find out, Peter and Gwen both feel hurt enough that they tell Miles they can't trust him as a teammate anymore.
  • Aaron Davis dying in a medical tent after saving his nephew from Dr. Octopus. A terrible price for him finally finding his courage to be good again.

     Year 4
  • Despite all the harm she intended to do, there's a little bit of sympathy for the Spider Queen who knew fear all her life because of her mutant power to talk to spiders. That all she wanted was somewhere to belong.
  • In a bid to keep his new identity safe, Otto breaks up with Gwen after a year of being together.
  • Despite Otto doing his best to try and ignore the goodness experienced by Peter in his life, he can't ignore how wonderful things are in terms of health and the connections he makes. Making him begin to see that he's wasted much of his life on vengeance.
  • Otto decides to tell Anna Marie the whole truth about who he is. While Anna admits that she did come to love him after all this time, they can't be together because he stole this man's life to come together.
