With a story about a group of people being heavily persecuted against and hunted down by the government for no other reason then because they're different... it can feel a bit too close to reality.
Galo: Side Story
- After Galo manages to rescue a civilian trapped in the building he gets her to safety and tries to get her to wake up. When she does, she suddenly becomes a Burnish, screaming in pain and unwittingly burning Galo's arm. Aina immediately turns her gun on the girl whose eyes have rolled into the back of her head and she accidentally uses her flames while saying how she can't be a Burnish.
Lio: Side Story
- Poor Thyma. She was living a normal life until she suddenly gained Burnish powers, and throughout the short she screams about how she doesn't want to be a Burnish. Guiera and Meis have to bluntly tell her that like it or not, she's Burnish now and because of that she can no longer return to her normal life.
- While Guiera and Meis try to hold off the Freeze Force for the others to get away, they are sadly captured, which only seals Thyma's fate in the film.
Film
- One of the Burnish mutations happening in Paris. It's particularly tearjerking because it's happening to a pregnant wife who's being abused by her husband. As he tosses her away by the hair and takes her money, looking around their house, it's likely there was a fight going on beforehand. What's even sadder is that the stress of it all seems to have affected the woman's unborn baby who becomes a Burnish and burns its father.
- The casualties that follow the spontaneous combustions and birth of the Burnish. A news clip even shows a woman weeping over a bagged and burnt corpse.
- Once Lio, Gueira and Meis enter the Burnish cell, they look around horrified to see people cuffed and wrapped in bandages. There are even children with them.Meis: My god.
Lio: It is as horrible as they've said.- We see Thyma once again. The poor girl is wrapped up in bandages to the point of being almost unrecognizable and she can barely lift her arm up once she sees the others. Meis and Guiera can only stand by while Lio kneels beside her with his eyes downcast.
Thyma: What did we ever do... to deserve this? - Aina and Galo futilely trying to protect the pizza owner and his Burnish employee from the Freeze Force. They point out that the Burnish wasn't a terrorist and wasn't doing anything wrong until they showed up. Vulcan simply says that the court would decide the fate of the two, and once again Galo is unable to do anything to stop it.
- Galo attempts to ambush the Burnish escapees, but once he gets a closer look at the children among them, he lowers his gun.
- Lio angrily telling Galo how the Burnish were people as well, but because of their powers they were all immediately deemed dangerous.
- As Lio tries to use CPR on Thyma, it appears like he manages to succeed, but he looks broken. Thyma takes her last breath and then dies quietly. All Lio could do was place her hands together and send her off peacefully as he could as she turns into ashes.
- Galo tries to offer his help to save her, but Lio is not having it.
Lio: It's because of you people she's like this!- He even stares sadly at Thyma's ashes when Lio and the others leave, likely thinking over how horrible their situation was because of Kray.
- Thyma was the same girl Galo rescued in his prequel short. Just imagine how he could have felt watching someone he worked hard to save die and being unable to do a damn thing about it this time around.
- Whenever "Ashes" plays, you know something bad is going to happen to the Burnish.
- Galo's Broken Tears when Kray tells him he's been nothing but a stubborn thorn in his side and throws him into a cell once he reveals his secret plans to Galo.
- You can hear the despair in Lio's voice as Gueira and Meis shoot him out of a cannon to save him at the cost of getting captured by Freeze Force themselves.
- Whenever the Prometech engine is activated. Especially when it shows all of the captured Burnish screaming out in pain as their energy is being used to power the engine.
- Lio going on a Roaring Rampage of Revenge because he couldn't protect his Burnish brethren from the Freeze Force.Lio: You'll pay for this... KRAY FORESIGHT!!
- Galo even notices the pain Lio is in when he looks at his dragon form and tears streaking down its face.
- While it later becomes a really awesome moment, Galo desperately trying to perform CPR on a disappearing Lio who's already lost more than half of his body. He was already worried about Lio when Kray captured him, and likely was remembering what happened to Thyma when her flame went out.
- After satisfying the Promare's desire to burn and sealing up the rift between their universes, Lio watches silently as his Promare slowly drifts away and returns home.
