The opening shows the first appearance of the Burnish. A normal day turns into chaos globally because people are seemingly out of nowhere burst in flames that engulf all around them in.
In the opening, a pregnant woman is shown get beaten by her husband. The stress from it is not causing her to burst, but seemingly her baby.
Some of the places that people end up turning into Burnish happen to be the worst possible places for fires to suddenly happen. Places include the a Tokyo subway and the Golden Gate Bridge during rush hour and crowded with people, inside airplane, and a government building.
The scene where a bunch of Burnish, who were just living peacefully without hurting anyone, are attacked by the Freeze Force. The reason they're being attacked is to be captured and used as fuel in a process which will kill them. We even see some kids being captured.
Even more horrifying is the aftermath. There are some close ups of broken pieces of ice scattered around the settlement. Some encasing severed limbs, broken bodies, and even horrified screams.
