"ah, grog!"

Pirates: The Legend of Black Kat is a 2002 action-adventure video game by Westwood Studios.

The game tells the story of Katarina de Leon aka Black Kat, as she undergoes a quest to avenge her father's death.

The Game Provides Examples of:

  • Dem Bones: Animated skeletons will emerge from underground in the graveyard stage.
  • Dual Wield: Kat frequently engages enemy mooks with a cutlass and dagger combo.
  • Epic Ship-on-Ship Action: There are several stages where Kat, steering her own ship, trade cannons with enemy vessels, sinking them or blowing those ships apart to end a level.
  • Fire, Ice, Lightning: Power tikis allow Katarina to hail a storm of fire, ice, lightning and other elemental attacks from above.
  • Giant Enemy Crab: A boss fight for the stone key involves a large crab.
  • Heal It with Booze: Grog is the most common health power up in the game.
  • Invincibility Power-Up: The mermaids' harp, given as a reward for finding all orchids acts as this for a brief amount of time.
  • Monstrous Scenery: The Fjord sea has a gigantic whale-creature periodically emerging and sinking from the water, but despite it's size the monster is harmless.
  • Night of the Living Mooks: The graveyard stage is filled with skeletons and ghost enemies. Which are thankfully vulnerable to Kat's weapons.
  • Our Ghosts Are Different: The ghost enemies in the graveyard, for instance, can be hurt by Kat's cutlass. They don't have any close-range attacks and their only defense is emiting a circular energy aura that drains Kat's health, necessitating players to attack them and back off to avoid damage.
  • Pirate Girl: The titular protagonist, Kat herself.
  • Pirate Parrot: Kat has a parrot sidekick who appears as checkpoints.
  • Sidequest: Collecting orchids for a mermaid and stars for King Neptune to name a few.
  • Skeleton Key: A total of four keys must be collected as the player progresses throughout the game.
  • Terrifying Tiki: In the Voodoo Isles, Tikis will either shoot poison darts at the player, or attack them by using their spikes.
  • Yeti: Frost Fjord have club-wielding abominable snowmen enemies who attacks Kat on sight.
