  • If your entire party gets wiped out, the last thing you hear before the Game Over screen is your navigator going into a full-on Heroic BSoD. This is especially, extremely heartbreaking if you bought navigator DLC and your navigator is Nanako.
  • Don't think too hard about literally any scene involving Shinjiro, because then you might remember that he'll be dead within the month, which feels so much worse now that you actually get the chance to spend a lot of time with him and get to know him better. Even the in-battle text can trigger Mood Whiplash: for some reason they went with "X is dead" instead of "X is unconscious", meaning that "Shinjiro is dead" pops up as a fairly frequent phrase. Thanks.
    • Same goes for the P3 Hero. In fact, don't think too hard about how he panics or yells if someone is hurt or KO'd either, knowing his history, especially if you've seen the P3 movies.
  • Margaret forcing herself from telling Elizabeth about P3 Hero's sacrifice in order to maintain the timeline.
    • Speaking of which, Elizabeth's wedding scene with the P3 protagonist, while mostly hilarious, contains one bit of foreshadowing that'll hit P3 players really hard.
Elizabeth: Odd. When my hand is separated from yours, I feel as if you'll...
  • Ken going after Yosuke after the latter ran off to hide his tears when the rest of the party brought up Saki in conversation is nothing short of heart-wrenching, especially because Ken absolutely fails to handle the subject with any sensibility whatsoever, since he is blinded by his desire for revenge on his own mother's killer. Persona Q's version of Memories of the School being played over the scene really doesn't help.
  • The Kind Doctor boss fight, in hindsight, becomes one when you realize his dialogue is about Rei's final moments on the operating table.
  • Yukari being open to Mitsuru for what (from her perspective) is the very first time. Her words are just this sincere.
  • The final floor of the Inaba Pride Exhibit. After going through a mostly lighthearted dungeon, you find yourself in a bleak shrine that looks like a funeral procession, completely drained of all color, with this music playing. It's only shortly afterwards that you get the plot dump about Zen and Rei's past.
    • Rei thoroughly going off the deep end in the flashback, after Chronos created the false Yasogami to try and get her to speak. Props to her English voice actress for conveying so much emotion there, and props to Zen's English voice actor for the same reason.
Rei: It's not fair...! Why only me?! Why was I born?! Why... Why did I have to be born?! I have nothing! No friends, no family, not even my health...! I prayed to God every day, and not one prayer was granted... Why... did I exist? What was the point of my life...?! Thank you, Mr. Death... For showing me this place. But I didn't want to see it... Everyone else gets to come here every day, but I... I'm gonna die alone... This is too cruel...! That's enough! I've had enough! Hurry up and kill me! Take me away right now...! I don't wanna see this anymore...!
      • When Rei recovers her memories, she laments how her life had been meaningless ever since she was born. None of the dialogue options provided to you help her (one of them being complete silence), instead only pissing her off and temporarily gaining the Shadow's Supernatural Gold Eyes as she yells at you.
      • Her words are especially painful if you're playing the P3 protagonist.
Rei: You wouldn't understand... After all, you're still alive!
      • Words alone simply do not do that scene justice. Watch the scene unfold here. And bring tissues with you. You will need them...
  • Kanji's influence over Ken in the P4 route actually has the latter rethink his stance on revenge over his mother, and in the P3 route he comes around to the idea of forgiveness. But then everyone forgets the events of the game, Ken reverts to how he was, and Shinjiro dies anyway. Ouch.
  • Speaking of Rei, this is one of those characters that should be tied with this trope. Remember this was just a young girl that got a terminal illness implied to be leukemia or cancer, and since her parents don't hold high hopes for her they just let her die in her hospital bed after her doctor failed her operation. She wanted to do lots of things like getting married or going to a festival, but she cannot since she has to spend her whole fleeting life in the hospital. It is merely sad, as it is disturbing, to the point that a Grim Reaper can be touched by the story and gain humanity.
  • While most characters' sleep quotes are hilarious, Zen's as a lone party member, after Rei has been taken, is just sad.
    Zen: Rei... I'm sorry...
  • The entire ending. Zen goes to the afterlife with Rei, and SEES and the Investigation Team goes back to their own time, but will have their memories wiped to preserve the timeline. Everyone says their goodbyes to one another, with P3 Hero and P4 Hero wishing one another good luck. Especially hits hard to veterans of P3/P4, because they know that P3 Hero will never meet them again...at least until Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth came along.
P3 Hero: Once we leave here, it's back to battle for each of us. We both have things we need to finish up. ...Take care.
P4 Hero: I'm proud to have met you all, and to have fought alongside you, as companions. We'll meet again... someday.
