Tropes

  • Ambiguous Syntax: Sikowitz's initial proposal to the group.
Sikowitz: How would you kids like to do something for money?
Tori: Can we get some details, first?
  • Attention Whore: Trina is perfectly happy to do just about anything humiliating if it gets her some notice.
    Trina: I'll be a Diddly-Bop.
    Cat: You will?
    Jade: Why?
Trina: 'Cause I'll be onstage performing and getting paid to sing a song in front of people who adore me.
Beck: You'll be dressed as a hamburger.
Robbie: Singing for 4 year olds!
Trina: Take me to the hamburger.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Sikowitz at the kids' party.
Sikowitz: How many of you kids like a group called the Waggafuffles? [kids cheer] Well, they're not here. [kids boo]
  • Big "SHUT UP!": Rex to Cat singing a children's song by the Waggefuffles.
Cat: Rex told me to shut up!
    Sikowitz: Yes, thank you, Rex.
  • Call-Back:
  • Comically Missing the Point: Tori in this exchange after Jade complains about what they're doing.
    Tori: Four year olds.
  • Dreaded Kids' Party Entertainer Job: The main conflict of the episode; the gang perform at a birthday party dressed as food, and sing a ridiculous song about their favorite foods.
  • During the War: Invoked by Jade in response to the first batch of lyrics Andre wrote.
Andre: [singing] Everyone has a nose-
Jade: My grandfather's nose was blown off in the war, so that song is a filthy lie!
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Andre writes a new song with Tori's help that he performs at the Asphalt Cafe, convincing the record label to give him a second chance.
  • Expy: The Diddlybops appear to be parodies of children's bands The Wiggles and The Doodlebops.
  • It's All About Me: Trina, as always.
Trina: [to Tori] I thought we were sisters!
Trina: Not you! You formed a musical group and didn't ask me to join?
  • Noodle Incident: The plane crash that killed the Waggafuffles.
  • Ode to Food: "Favorite Foods", the song Tori and the gang perform as the Diddly Bops at the party.
  • Only in It for the Money: Jade bluntly admits she's only doing the gig for the thousand bucks Sikowitz promised them.
  • Pet the Dog: Jade stops Rex poking fun at Andre losing a record deal by pulling off one of Rex's arms.
  • Product Placement: Trina is seen wearing Nike Air Prestige III's with her costume.
  • A Rare Sentence: From Cat.
Cat: You better help Jade. She can't get her boobs in the hamburger.
  • Riddle for the Ages: What did Jade write on the autograph for Lane's nephew?
  • Running Gag: Robbie constantly singing songs about broken glass.
Tori: Andre wrote a really great little kids' song.
Sikowitz: It's not the one Robbie left on my voicemail about broken glass, is it?
  • Super-Persistent Predator: Metaphorically speaking, but Trina really didn't want to give up on getting a contract with Andre's former record producer.
Trina: I chased that record producer for 7 blocks. I finally caught up with him at a red light and he tried to back over me! Can you believe that?
    Jade: Yep.
  • Tough Room: The second gig for the Diddly Bops goes horrendously bad, largely because Andre, Beck, Tori, Robbie and Jade refuse to participate and Cat, who arranged it, has to use other people to fill the gaps, including Trina, Sikowitz and Sinjin.
Little boy: They're not the Diddly Bops!
Trina: We are too the Diddly Bops.
Little girl: They're fakers! [pointing at Sikowitz] That guy's over a hundred years old!
    Sikowitz: I'm 34!
  • What Could Have Been: The original premise of the episode would have involved Tori falling for a singer...only to find out he writes songs for little kids.
