Bubble Bass's Tab

Original air date: 4/9/2021 (produced in 2019)

Bubble Bass doesn't pay his tab after ordering food at the Krusty Krab, so Mr. Krabs sends SpongeBob and Squidward to his house to try and make him pay.

The episode contains examples of:

  • Actually Quite Catchy: While refusing to pay his tab, Bubble Bass sings, "Hey, nonny nonny! You look pretty funny! You won't get my money!" While on the way to Bubble Bass's house, SpongeBob is singing it, saying he can't help it because it's catchy.
  • Aesop Amnesia: Despite being defeated in his game, being threatened with no more food from the Krusty Krab, and being forced to work to pay his tab (which is especially bad for him since he’s so lazy and ineffective), Bubble Bass goes right back to ordering massive amounts of food and putting it on a new tab.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Bubble Bass didn't actually have to pay off his tab; the customers did it for him because of his awful and unhelpful service, and paying off his debt means he wouldn't have to work there anymore. After this, Bubble Bass opens a new tab and gets away with it.
  • Big "WHY?!": Bubble Bass does this after his mother leaves in the middle of the second challenge to attend a bake sale.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • When Bubble Bass places an order for fifty Krabby Patties at the drive-thru, he asks for extra pickles on them, a clear allusion to his debut episode “Pickles”.
    • Among SpongeBob's board games are Eels and Escalators, Patrick! The Game, and Whirly Brain.
  • Cover Innocent Eyes and Ears: While Bubble Bass shakes his butt in front of the drive thru window, a customer waiting behind him covers his son's eyes before honking at Bubble Bass to move along.
  • Dance Party Ending: The episode ends with Squidward doing the tango with SpongeBob and Bubble Bass's mom.
  • Drive-Thru Antics: When Mr. Krabs forbids Bubble Bass from ordering more food, Bubble Bass tries using the drive thru until he's caught by Mr. Krabs.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Krabs eventually gets Bubble Bass working at the Krusty Krab to pay off his tab. The problem is that Bubble Bass is so lazy, whiny, and weak that he’s absolutely terrible at anything he does and drives the customers crazy. They end up all pitching in to pay the tab just so Bubble Bass will not have to work there anymore.
  • Got Me Doing It:
Squidward: Oh, Awright- alright already! Let's get this over with!
  • Heads or Tails?: After learning he has to pay his tab if he wants to order more food, Bubble Bass suggests flipping a coin (presumably to decide whether he pays it or not). Mr. Krabs takes the coin before it can land on either heads or tails.
  • Here We Go Again!: After getting his tab paid off, Bubble Bass immediately starts a new one, which he clearly also has no intent of paying.
  • Iris Out: How the episode ends.
  • Jaw Drop: Mr. Krabs does this when he sees Bubble Bass opening a new tab.
  • Malicious Misnaming: At one point, Bubble Bass calls Squidward "Squidwuss".
  • Manchild: Bubble Bass generally acts like a spoiled, irresponsible brat in this episode. He refuses to pay for his immensely large meals, accept responsibility for his actions; he sings childish songs to mock Mr. Krabs even after being caught at the drive-thru; and when it’s clear Squidward has him dead to rights, he simply cries out for his “mommy”. Finally, he’s completely horrible at his forced job at the Krusty Krab, clearly not possessing the skills or abilities (not even counting the stamina) to do menial labor (he even washes dishes in the toilet). He also doesn’t learn his lesson by the end of the episode and goes right back to his old tricks.
  • Overcomplicated Menu Order: Bubble Bass’s first order contains a giant mountain of Krabby Patties and other sides and delicacies like special fries and even a giant donut. He orders this much so often, he’s racked up a massive debt at the Krusty Krab. When Mr. Krabs turns him away, Bubble Bass then tries to steal 50 patties through the drive-thru, and once again is at it at the end of the episode.
  • Pet the Dog: Though still annoyed with him, Squidward is pretty mellow towards SpongeBob, and is able to have casual conversations with him and accept his advice and guidance. At the end of the episode he even dances with him for a bit.
  • Ship Tease: Between Squidward and Bubble Bass’s mother, the latter of whom is actively interested in the former, while the former doesn’t mind dancing with her at the end.
  • Shockingly Expensive Bill: Bubble Bass has racked up a large amount of money on his tab, implied to have been built up over an extended period of time.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Wingding Eyes: Bubble Bass's mother's pupils turn into red tablecloths when she sees SpongeBob and Squidward hiding under it.
  • Work Off the Debt: When Bubble Bass can't pay off his tab, he has to work at the Krusty Krab. He's so bad at it, that the customers offer to pay it off for him just so he can stop working there.
  • Ye Olde Butcherede Englishe: Bubble Bass, SpongeBob, and Squidward speak like this a couple times while playing Three Deadly Challenges. SpongeBob even says that the flowery insults are one of the best parts of the game.

Kooky Cooks

Original air date: 4/9/2021 (produced in 2019)

After a disaster at a fancy restaurant, Mrs. Puff thinks Mr. Krabs is too cheap, so he hires SpongeBob and Squidward as waiters to impress her.

The episode contains examples of:

  • Brick Joke: When Mrs. Puff starts to get really hungry, she eats the candle that's on the table. Later, after she eats SpongeBob, he finds the same candle in her stomach.
  • Call-Back: Squidward pronounces salad as "Suh-LAD" like SpongeBob did in "Bossy Boots".
  • Chased Off into the Sunset: The episode ends with Mrs. Puff chasing SpongeBob into the distance so she can eat him.
  • Chekhov's Skill: Earlier in the episode, SpongeBob mentions that the only fancy thing he can cook is a krabby patty with three buns. At the end, he serves it to Mrs. Puff, and she loves it.
  • Eaten Alive: Mrs. Puff unknowingly eats SpongeBob after he is fried up and is too hungry to listen to the others' warnings.
  • Food Fight: A food fight occurs between SpongeBob and Squidward in the kitchen.
  • Growling Gut: Mrs. Puff's stomach growls the hungrier she gets.
  • Iris Out: The episode ends on one with the French Narrator saying, "Bon Appetit."
  • Lethal Chef: All of SpongeBob and Squidward's attempts to cook a fancy meal for Mr. Krabs and Mrs. Puff end up being inedible.
  • Meat-O-Vision: When Mrs. Puff is still hungry after eating the krabby patty, she sees SpongeBob as his fried up self from earlier.
  • Mind-Control Eyes: Mrs. Puff gets these at the end when she hungers for SpongeBob.
  • Phoneaholic Teenager: Pearl spends most of the episode staring at her phone while also serving Mr. Krabs and Mrs. Puff their food.
  • Toilet Humor: After eating SpongeBob, Mr. Krabs tells Mrs. Puff that she'll have to "pass SpongeBob". Mrs. Puff instead opts to have him surgically removed.
  • Wingding Eyes: Mrs. Puff gets hearts in her eyes when she drinks sparkling cider.
