"Patrick! The Game" contains examples of:

  • Batman Gambit: Invoked by SpongeBob and Sandy to keep Squidward playing. Patrick improvises a new rule that anyone in jail can leave if the other players say their name. When Squidward storms off in frustration, everyone tries to stop him and they all say his name. Upon being commended for this strategy, Squidward resumes play.
  • Bully Hunter: Sandy doesn’t stand for Squidward's taunts at the Game Night, either shutting him up or forcing him to join in when he doesn’t make an effort.
  • Calvinball: Patrick's game just gets more and more nonsensical as it goes on, with new rules being made up at apparently random.
  • Catch-22 Dilemma: Squidward can't roll the dice when he's in jail, and the only way to get out is to roll a 6. Fortunately, Patrick realizes it and makes up another rule to get out of jail.
  • Dude, Not Funny!: Any attempts from Squidward to be snarky or put Patrick down not only get this response from Sandy, but the threat of violence too.
  • Fictional Board Game: This episode involves Patrick inventing the titular board game and inviting SpongeBob, Sandy, and Squidward to his house to play it. The game plays like a cross between Monopoly and Operation, with Patrick making up the rules as the game progresses. While SpongeBob and Sandy have a lot of fun playing the game, Squidward has the worst luck, continuously landing in Jail (and being sent to a real jail when he destroys the game out of anger).
  • Idea Bulb: Patrick's head had a miniature version of him indicating of giving ideas.
  • Jerkass: Squidward. He does make fun of Patrick's game a couple times, in which Sandy threatens him.
  • Karmic Butt-Monkey: Squidward has the worst luck while playing the game, continuously landing in jail. Though he brought it out on himself since he kept insulting Patrick's game.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Squidward gets sent to jail for real after destroying the game.
  • Obvious Rule Patch: Squidward is unable to get out of jail since the only way to do so is to roll a 6, but rolling the dice is forbidden while in jail. Patrick fixes this problem by adding another rule that stipulates a player can also get out of jail if someone says their name.
  • Running Gag: Patrick inventing new rules for the game.
  • Shout-Out: Most of Patrick's game are shoutouts to board game methods. When Patrick finishes making his game, it’s a reference to Frankenstein.
Patrick: It's a game! It's a game! Now I know what it feels like to be a game maker!

"The Sewers of Bikini Bottom" contains examples of:

  • Absurdly Spacious Sewer: The titular sewer that SpongeBob and Squidward go into. Spacious enough for a large sewer snake to reside in it.
  • Continuity Nod: SpongeBob has a to do list and some of them refers to the previous episodes such as Chocolate with Nuts, Sandy’s Rocket, Mooncation, etc.
  • Cutting Corners: Crupski had the stadium's pipe have a reducer in it and also made of cardboard. Charlton use the phrase a couple times when calling out him and Mr. Krabs.
  • Eye Scream: Another one for Squidward in this season. This time, lampreys attack his eyes.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: SpongeBob's to do list has many silly items on it. These include "take road trip to the moon" and "wear all my socks at once."
  • Fun with Flushing: SpongeBob and Squidward have fun flushing a variety of objects down the Krusty Krab toilets.
  • Ignored Expert: Charlton's warning that the pipe won't be able to hold the water is ignored by Mr. Krabs and Crupski, who only cares about the money that gets saved.
  • Large Ham: Charlton Hawkfish.
  • MacGuffin: The Krabby Patty secret formula.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Squidward says most of the phrase after ordering SpongeBob to flush himself down the toilet.
  • Not So Above It All: Squidward actually joins SpongeBob flushing stuff down the toilet.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • When SpongeBob and Squidward realize that the secret formula was flushed into the sewers.
    • Squidward when he realize he is inside the snake's stomach.
  • Serious Business: Charlton Hawkfish takes sewers very seriously, and is outraged at the idea of cutting corners on plumbing systems.
  • Two Lines, No Waiting: The main story is SpongeBob and Squidward trying to find and retrieve the secret formula's safe from the sewers. Meanwhile at the Krusty Krab Stadium, Charlton Hawkfish is calling out Mr. Krabs and Crupski for cutting corner with the stadium's pipe. The stories interwine when the pipe blows up as Charlton predicted, causing the water from the stadium to washes up SpongeBob and Squidward while the sewer snake from their story appear at the stadium.
