Recap / PK 2 S 2 E 5 End Of History

Go To

As Donald has to babysit Rupert in his courting of Stella, he receives news that a convict, Tyrell Duckard, has escaped from a high-security prison and is currently in Duckburg, having evaded the police through incredible, superhuman stunts of skill. Things get complicated as we learn that Tyrell is a Time Ø Droid like her, and apparently the two were in love. However, what are Tyrell's actual intentions? Meanwhile, Everett is working on his relationship with Juniper, who's begun to talk to him.

This Issue contains examples of:

  • Almost Kiss: Between Lyla and Tyrell, in her apartment. They are interrupted by Donald knocking on the door to say hi to Lyla.
  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: Tyrell is one of the best agents Time Ø has to offer. And judging from his performance at the airport, he likes to show off a little too much for his own good.
  • Battle in the Rain: The climax takes place under a downpour on the Century facility's roof.
  • Big Damn Heroes: As Tyrell has just punched Lyla and is about to beat her up even more, PK appears perched on a chimney, Badass Cape fluttering, complete with Glowing Eyes of Doom and Pre-Asskicking One-Liner.
Tyrell (pointing a gun at Lyla) "Now, what should I do, dolly?"
Paperinik: "I have a suggestion: how about putting that gun down and letting me tear you to very small pieces?" (cue Megaton Punch)
  • Call-Back:
    • The microcontractions incident which stopped Time Travel is the reason why Tyrell was left stuck inside a prison for years.
    • When Tyrell reveals that his device will return him and Lyla to Time Ø by wiping out the current timeline he tries to justify himself by claiming that, after all, this timeline has no right to exist.
  • Drill Sergeant Nasty: Lyla's flashback reveals that Tyrell used to be one for the other droids, and is even introduced judo-throwing Lyla after holding her hand just to give a demonstration. He mellowed out a lot.
  • Foreshadowing
    • We finally gets to see the bearded old man in Century. He becomes important later on.
    • Having finally decided to talk, Juniper says Everett she would really love to meet her sister again. Also, Everett mentions Juniper and Korinna's mother, claiming that "he had to take them away from her".
    • On their date in the cinema, Rupert grows irritated and jealous when Stella mentions what a wonderful person Donald is. This thread is carried on in two more issues.
  • Freudian Excuse:
    • Tyrell got struck in a maximum security prison for years after Time Travel was stopped due to Microcontractions. Separated from home and Lyla, his sanity dwindled.
    • Parodied by a snarking PK when Malice Sturling trashtalks him and tells him P.B.I. doesn't need him anymore.
Paperinik: "Admit it, I remind you of that boy who always stole your luch at school."
  • The Glomp: As soon as Lyla recognize Tyrell, she promptly hugs him tight.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: Paperinik manages to pull them off rather well when he confronts Tyrell on the roof. He wasn't called "The Devilish Avenger" for nothing!
  • Guns Akimbo: Tyrell can use two guns simultaeously. Justified, as being a droid allows him to have exceptional coordination and reflexes.
  • Happy Rain: Juniper seems to be enchanted by the rain, and at one point begins to happily dance under it.
  • In a Single Bound: Upon seeing the recordings of Tyrell's fight and flight, Donald notes that there's something really suspicious upon seeing Tyrell reach a window far from the ground with a single jump.
Paperinik: "I can think of two creatures capable of jumping that far, and this one doesn't look like a kangaroo..."
  • Jerkass: Malice Sturling. One thing is not liking the idea of a masked vigilante working on your cases, another is being incredibly dismissive and arrogant towards him, even more when you remember those times when PK did help them out, willing or not.
  • Kicked Upstairs: Lyla leaves Zero Channels... because she was hired by Everett to work in his staff.
  • Love Makes You Dumb: Averted: while Lyla still loves Tyrell and is willing to help him, she does notices that something is off and ultimately refuses to go along with his genocidal plan.
  • The Matchmaker: Again, PK has to, essentially, babysit Rupert and give him advice on how to date Stella. It's a Running Gag through the episode.
  • Nothing Is the Same Anymore: Another hammered point, Donald no longer has allies among the P.B.I. and is help isn't welcomed. Also, Lyla leaves Zero Channel.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Tyrell's plan is to build a device known as Temporal Obliterator: using it will completely destroy the entire timeline, with the side-effect of sending him and Lyla to Time Ø. Suffice to say, Lyla has something to object.
  • Ship Tease: While Tyrell is some sort of canon love interest for Lyla, PK coming to rescue her from what's essentially a bad boyfriend does add to the PK x Lyla ship.
  • Smug Snake: Malice tells PK he's no longer required and that P.B.I. can do without him. All of this despite the fact that they clearly failed to apprehend Tyrell.
  • Throwaway Country: Invoked with a Throwaway Timeline in this case, Tyrell claims that this timeline is a freak accident and thus expendable.
  • Tragic Villain: In a way, Tyrell. In his own words, he just wanted to go home.
  • Villainous Breakdown: While before he did great, Tyrell loses all composure when Lyla turns on him.
  • Wham Line: Finally confirming to Lyla that Tyrell's plans aren't good for everyone else who's not the two of them.
Lyla: "I don't understand... it almost looks like you want to make a smaller Temporal Obliterator..."
Tyrell: "Even better, my dear... that's exactly what we're doing!"
  • Would Hit a Girl: After getting judo-throwed by Lyla, Tyrell gets the message and proceeds to beat her up.
  • You Wouldn't Shoot Me: When Lyla tries to shoot Tyrell, he remarks that she doesn't have the guts to take him down and even invites her to aim for the battery. He's right, and is able to disarm Lyla and attack her further.
