on the Twitch Plays Pokémon subredditTwitch Plays Pokémon (TPP) is a series of social experiments in which commands representing buttons on an original Nintendo DS (up, down, left, right, A, B, X, Y, L, R, start, and select) and touchscreen coordinates are entered into a chat on Twitch, and then translated into a game of Pokémon via an IRC bot. In short, hundreds of people are fighting over a controller. Throughout its life, Twitch Plays Pokémon has spawned hilarious characters, memorable moments, and even a few religions.
Twitch Plays Pokemon Storm Silver is the second run of Season 5 and thirtieth run overall, which started on April 14th, 2018, and ended on May 2nd, 2018. The game used for this run, Pokémon Storm Silver, is a hack of Pokémon SoulSilver created by Drayano60, who was also the author of the Pokémon Blaze Black 2 hack used during Twitch Plays Pokémon Black 2. Among other changes and tweaks, it features an increase in difficulty, makes all 493 Pokémon available in-game, and adds a variety of new events, including extra Trainer battles and appearances by characters from other games. On top of that, Fairy-type was added to the game specifically for this run.
The Host for this run is a boy named "AAEFFFF", for whom the in-lore name "Skye" gained traction due to the hexadecimal code #AAEFFF translating to a sky blue color. He chose Cyndaquil as its starter and named it "222", which immediately led to it being nicknamed "Second BEST" by the chat in reference to BEST the Typhlosion from Vietnamese Crystal. This run is notable for how it revolved a lot around memetic jokes and Pokémon-based lore, whereas recent runs tend to focus more on personal headcanons and Trainer-based lore; as such, "Cat" nicknames became common in the chat, whereas the subreddit became flooded with Star Wars parodies.

Twitch Plays Pokémon Storm Silver provides examples of:
- Glitch Entity: On a few occasions, AAEFFFF fished up an invisible shiny Lv.0 Pokémon. Although the chat intended to catch it, the task proved difficult as it automatically ended the battle after one turn; one plan involved tossing a Master Ball at it, but that got scrapped after it was thrown away.
- History Repeats: This is not the first time a Typhlosion who was picked as a starter ended up overpowering the rest of the team by a long shot; in fact, said Typhlosion was even nicknamed "Second BEST" by the chat in reference to BEST from Vietnamese Crystal.
- Incessant Music Madness: By messing around with the GB Player, which is obtained early in this hack, the chat somehow got both Team Rocket Encounter themes to play over each other out of sync. This glitch pretty much persisted the entire time they were inside Goldenrod's Radio Tower, and the Game Boy theme even overlapped with some of the battle themes.
- Money Fetish: AAEFFFF seems to really like money. He told his mother twice not to spend it, challenged the Elite 4 a grand total of ten times mostly for the cash prize, and even had some golden eggs as part of his team at some point. On top of that, after awakening Jirachi, he chose to wish for "The Power of Money", and an astronomical total of 300,000 pokédollars were thus bestowed upon him. Of course, this being TPP, he never got to keep his money for very long.
- Non-Indicative Name: Stunky was caught while the chat was searching for a Gleameow, which caused it to gain the sarcastic nickname of "Stinky Cat" despite clearly being based on a skunk. Similarly, "Rusty" the Steelix was traded for the team's Gleameow which was referred to by the chat as "Second Cat", causing said Steelix to gain the similarly sarcastic nickname of "Rusty Cat" despite lloking nothing like one.
- Not Quite Dead: After EEEEEEHH the Eevee was released, the stream's host revealed that he had saved it by transferring it from a backup save to a PokéWalker. Several other posts followed, detailing the first, second and third stroll he took it on. The former reveals that GG6GGGGGGG the Slowking was also rescued in a similar fashion.
- Old Save Bonus: Every Pokémon caught during previous Generation III runs was made available through Pal Park by loading them into a FireRed save. In total, 42 previously-owned Pokémon were obtained that way:
- ST (Natu), Sandshrew, ’ (Pikachu), Zubat, Oddish, Vileplume, Oddish, and m (Oddish) from Twitch Plays Pokémon Emerald.
- hnjkrs (Machop), APPSZZZZ (Wingull), Koffing, Quagsire, Poliwag, Glalie, AATUUVWVW (Charizard), and Lileep from Twitch Plays Pokémon FireRed.
- AAAAAAAAAA (Ditto/Kedama) (x2), Sanae (Ivysaur/Sanae), Aghicccccd (Goldeen/CStar), CPatchouli (Kadabra/CPatchouli), CCirno (Pikachu/CCirno), and Chauzu (Slowpoke/Satori) from Twitch Plays Touhoumon.note
- Rattata (x2) from Twitch Plays Moemon.
- Plusle, Meganium, AAAAKLV (Jumpluff), AAAAAAAAAA (Misdreavus), Umbreon, ABLLVVWW♀ (Espeon) from Twitch Plays Pokémon Colosseum.
- Poliwrath, Delcatty, Eevee, //z ppp (Walrein), Swalot, Arbok, AAAAAAAAAA (Sharpedo), Salamence, Paras, cDddDDDDDD (Claydol), AAAAAAAAAA (Ampharos) from Twitch Plays Pokémon XD.
- Previous Player-Character Cameo: As with every run set in Johto, there is a secret opponent from a previous run on top Mt. Silver. In this case, AAEFFFF got to face off against aoooo from Twitch Plays Pokémon HeartGold. The opposing team was completely faithful to their original appearance, down to their randomized abilities.
- Unwilling Roboticisation: Gleameow, which the chat had dubbed "Second Cat", was traded for Jasmine's Steelix, "Rusty". With the chat taking to calling it "Rusty Cat", a few pieces of lore suggested that they might be the very same Pokémon, with Second Cat being inside Rusty Cat's metal shell.
