Recap / Paperinik New Adventures S 1 E 6 The Day Of The Cold Sun

Go To

A new power plant is being inaugurated, and Lyla and Camera 9 are covering the event for Channel 00. The journalist has some suspects about it, but they are quickly forgotten when a misterious man tries to kidnap the commissioner for energy. In the ensuing battle, he manages to escape. This isn't the first time it happened, and Paperinik and One are trying to understand what is going on. However the answer might cause the destruction of Duckburg.

Tropes In This Issue:

  • Always Lawful Good: The members of the Time Police will do anything to ensure history goes as it should, including allowing Duckburg's destruction. They renounce at the end, since returning the timeline to his rightful place would risk causing even more changes.
  • And I Must Scream: The Raider ends up frozen between every possible reality.
  • Artificial Gravity: What the Raider suggests professor Hogg to make the reactor work. In The Banks of Time, Hogg's experiments with artificial gravity are the cause of the whole mess.
  • Cardboard Prison: Even in the future cells still can't hold criminals, apparently.
  • Continuity Nod: The chronosail The Raider tried to use last time is mentioned.
    • This specific issue will be referenced by a lot of future ones.
  • Enemy Mine: The first of several times The Raider and Paperinik team up. This is however a subversion, since Paperinik was planning to trick him from the beginning.
  • The Faceless: Even without his camera helmet on, we still don't get to see Camera 9's face.
  • Guile Hero: After discovering the Othership is incomplete, One and Paperinik play The Raider like a violin.
  • Growing the Beard: Usually considered the first issue that showed what this series was really capable of.
  • Hidden Depths: We begin to see some hints of Camera 9's personality and past.
  • Kill and Replace: Since Lyla was showing too much independence, the timepolicemen decided to leave her to be destroyed by the explosion and replace her with another unit.
  • Innocently Insensitive: One of Lyla's coworkers call Camera 9 a robot. Lyla, a true droid, gets so angry that she bends a handle.
  • MacGuffin: This time it's the Othership, a machine that allows traveling to different dimensions.
  • Master of Disguise: The Raider can change his appearance with his tech. But in the end it's an old latex costume given by Paperinik that allowd him to enter the energy center.
  • Noodle Incident:
The Raider: "Not even the praetorians of Julius Ceasar were able to capture me!"
  • Pintsized Powerhouse: Hilariously lampshaded when Paperinik is able to fit in the Raider's bag.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!:Lyla allows Paperinik to carry on his plan instead of warning the Timepolice because she trusts him.
  • Spanner in the Works: Lyla deletes the recording that Camera 9 made of the fight between the Raider and the timepolicemen dressed as federals. He is understandably upset by it.
    • Later Angus ruins the Raider's attempt to penetrate the energy research center.
  • To Be Lawful or Good: Paperinik must choose between helping the Raider and save Duckburg (and allowing him to pillage an unlimited number of other dimensions) or stop him, condemn Duckburg and let history run his course. Thankfully he's able to Take a Third Option.
  • Two Lines, No Waiting: There is a subplot of Camera 9 finding out that Lyla is in cahoots with the false federals (actually timepolicemen, but he couldn't know that), and trying to decide what to do with the photos he made. He gives them to her because she is the only one to actually listen to him.
  • Unfinished, Untested, Used Anyway: An interesting subversion: neither the Raider nor the Time Police know that the Othership isn't fully functional yet.
  • X-Ray Vision: Lyla has this. It's what allows her to see through the Raider' costume and bag.
