Fixit’s Repair

On a rainy day, Manny and the tools repair the front door of Kelly’s store, which is stuck open. This is easily done; however, when they get back to their own shop, they find that Fixit had gone out to retrieve a ball, and short-circuited in the rain.

Tropes in “Fixit’s Repair” include:

  • Brick Joke: Early in the episode, some mini-windshield wipers Mr. Lopart attached to his glasses overload, causing his glasses to fall off his face and vibrate in such a way they move across the ground… and scare Fluffy. Later, when Manny and the tools are fixing Kelly’s stuck door, Fluffy can be seen outside, being “chased” by the glasses.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Turner once again sleeps in his blueprint hammock.
    • Judging by the label on the empty drinking glass, one of the “snacks” Felipe enjoyed while the tools tried to fix Fixit was a glass of Agua Fresca.
  • Damned by Faint Praise: Manny and the tools’ reaction to Mr. Lopart’s windshield-wiper glasses.
    Manny: Wow, those look very…
    Turner: Different.
  • Disney Death: Fixit “dies” due to short-circuiting in the rain, but is restored by some Herculean repair efforts by the tools.
  • "Everybody Laughs" Ending: One happens after Fixit’s first action after being reactivated is to lick Turner.
Turner (rather unthrilled, but still glad that Fixit is back): Thanks.
  • Funny Background Event: Fluffy can be seen being “chased” by Mr. Lopart’s glasses (see Brick Joke above for the context) in the background of one shot during “We Work Together”.
  • Hyper-Destructive Bouncing Ball: Fixit’s new, extra-bouncy space-patterned ball creates a bit of a mess when the tools try to throw around inside the shop. It causes more of a disaster when it bounces out the door and comes to rest in some grass, as Fixit tries to go outside to retrieve it but short-circuits in the rain.
  • I've Heard of That — What Is It?: When Manny says Kelly’s door molding is warped.
Pat: Oh, it’s warped. Wait, what does “warped” mean?
  • No Waterproofing in the Future: Fixit the Robot Dog is rendered nonfunctional due to going out in the rain.
  • Rain, Rain, Go Away: Manny and the tools have this problem at the beginning of the episode, as they’re trying to play with Fixit while it’s raining outside, and “fetch” isn’t exactly an indoor game. The ball then accidentally gets bounced outside, and (after Manny and the tools leave) Fixit goes out in the rain to retrieve it, and ends up short-circuiting.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: It’s subtle, but Mr. Lopart actually acts as one, as he and his windshield-wiper glasses distract Manny and the tools, and prevent them from noticing Fixit leaving the repair shop behind them.

Pottery Class

Manny and the tools go to Carmela’s studio to fix her kiln- and, while there, end up encouraging Susanna in her artistic endeavors.

”Pottery Class” provides examples of:

  • Arts and Crafts Episode: Naturally. While the tools themselves don’t get much pottery done before the end of the episode, they do encourage Susanna to work on her pot, and decide to take Carmela’s class themselves at the end of the episode.
  • Artsy Beret: Mr. Lopart wears his beret while trying to make a chocolate sculpture of himself and Fluffy.
Mr. Lopart: They don’t call me “Artsy Lopart” for nothing.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • At the beginning, the tools are seen planning to use the glue from “A Sticky Fix” to put a broken vase back together.
    • While sculpting, Mr. Lopart wears the beret he got in “Good Fences”.
    • Carmela’s junk sculpture can be seen in the background of her studio.
  • Covered in Gunge: At one point, Turner ends up splattered with clay due to… complicated circumstances. (He’d been standing on a potter’s wheel when Felipe turned it on, flinging him and the clay into a wall; he then drops down to the floor, and the clay falls on him a few seconds later).
  • "Everybody Laughs" Ending: One happens when the tools ask Carmela if they can take her pottery class to make a replacement vase for Manny, and Pat says they should make extra vases in case he breaks them.
  • Furry Confusion: Mr. Lopart uses an inanimate mallet and chisel to make his chocolate sculpture.
  • Hidden Depths: Apparently, Elliot was interested enough in art to take Carmela’s pottery class.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong:
    • When the tools are trying to put together the pieces of a vase they broke:
Pat: Don’t worry, Manny. We'll be a lot more careful next- (steps on a piece of the vase and loses his balance) Tiiiime! (falls on the mostly-assembled vase, reshattering it)
    • Mr. Lopart working on his chocolate sculpture.
Mr. Lopart: One more tap and I’ll be- (Tap!) done! (The table the sculpture was on falls apart, sending it shattering to the ground)
  • I've Heard of That — What Is It?: Pat doesn’t know what a “horno” (Gratuitous Spanish for “oven”) is.
Pat: Oh no, Carmela’s orno is broken. Um, what’s an orno?
  • Snap Back: Despite Beamer having joined up with Carmela in “Art Show”, in this episode he's nowhere to be seen.
  • Tempting Fate: When the tools suggest they make their own vase in Carmela’s studio to replace one they broken, Turner makes the mistake of saying
Turner: Oh, come on. How hard can it be?
  • What Does This Button Do?: Fate’s response to Turner’s above temptation of it was immediate, and took this form.
Felipe: I wonder what this does?
(Steps on the pedal that turns on the potter’s wheel… while Turner is standing on said potter’s wheel)
