Sculptor Manny
Manny’s artist friend Carmela hires him to come clean out her studio before her big art show that night; unfortunately, Felipe, being unfamiliar with the concept of found object art, throws out a sculpture of hers which he believed was just an agglomeration of random junk.
Tropes in “Sculptor Manny” include:
- Continuity Nod:
- Manny ends up donating the trumpet he played in “Cinco de Mayo” to Carmela to be part of her sculpture.
- Mr. Lopart’s shop is now finally shown with the blue tiles that Manny laid down in “Mr. Lopart Moves In”.
- Face Palm: Manny does one after Felipe reveals that the tools accidentally recycled Carmela’s sculpture.
- Fictional Painting: Carmela’s art studio is naturally full of these, including the obligatory painting of a bowl of fruit.
- Green Aesop: Teaches about recycling, although rather than preaching about the evils of landfills it merely educates kids about what kinds of materials can be recycled.
- I've Heard of That — What Is It?: Pat does a variant after Manny tells the tools (who were going to clean up Carmela’s studio) what they can and can’t put in the recycling bin.Pat: Okay! (beat) What’s a recycling bin?
- Open Mouth, Insert Foot: Felipe does this after explaining to Carmela why he recycled her sculpture.Felipe: I’m sorry, I thought it was junk! //realizes what he just said// I mean… I…
- Public Domain Soundtrack: “Fur Elise” plays as background music for the scene where Kelly is sweeping up outside her shop.
- Remember the New Guy?: Carmela the artist can be added to the long list of “Manny’s old friends who he never mentioned at any point before they appear”, although we do get a bit more detail than usual about how they know each other- apparently, they were friends in elementary school.
Manny Goes Solar
On a hot day, Mr. Kumar calls Manny to install a new electric sign on top of his store- unfortunately, there doesn’t appear to be any way to hook the sign up to a power source. Could the hot summer sun provide a solution to this conundrum?
”Manny Goes Solar” provides examples of:
- Character Action Title: Describes Manny using solar power to power Mr. Kumar’s sign.
- Green Aesop: Has a non-preachy one about solar power, and the situations in which it might prove useful.
- Heat Wave: It’s apparently a hot day in Sheet Rock Hills, and very sunny- the latter fact of which inspires Manny to power Mr. Kumar’s new electric sign using solar power when he can’t find any way to plug it in.
- Literal-Minded: Pat, after Manny and Felipe comment on how strong the sun is that day.Pat: Strong like this? //Lifts Stretch over his head//
- Look Behind You: While Felipe and Turner are fighting over who gets to stand directly in front of a fan, Turner pulls a variation to get Felipe out of the way.Turner: Say, is that a loose wood screw over there?
Felipe: Donde? Where?
//Felipe runs off, leaving Turner to enjoy the cool air// - Pun:Kelly: I think solar power is really going to brighten up Mr. Kumar’s day.
