Burkhart vs. Bonaparte

All the world is a will to power...

The war with Black Claw escalates as Nick and his friends are targeted for elimination.

This episode provides examples of:

  • Big Damn Heroes:
    • Eve, Trubel, Hank and Wu rescue Nick from North Precinct.
    • As Monroe and Rosalee finish hiding the Grimm books, they hear someone moving in the shop above them. The noise turns into an obvious fight, and the door opens to reveal a Black Claw member who falls down dead. Trubel appears behind him, having come to get Monroe and Rosalee safely to Nick's loft.
    • Bonaparte is about to kill Nick via Psychic Strangle when Diana makes Renard kill him, saving Nick.
  • Call-Back:
    • Eve telekinetically forces two Black Claw cops to aim their guns at each other, just as Juliette made Nick aim at Monroe in "You Don't Know Jack". As she's doing it to the bad guys to find out where Nick is being held, the good guys are okay with it this time.
    • As Monroe and Rosalee hide the Grimm books from Black Claw, Monroe holds up the Grimm family tree book, imagining what Black Claw could do with that information. Guess what Bonaparte wants from Nick?
    • Averted when Bonaparte uses his Psychic Strangle on Nick, who doesn't turn into a zombie, unlike other times he's been deprived of air. No explanation is given, but presumably the long-term effects of Baron Samedi's venom have worn off.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Eve is apparently pissed at Black Claw, because she traps the two members outside Monroe and Rosalee's house in their truck and telekinetically uses the air in the truck to burn them with friction until they explode.
  • Delaying Action: As Black Claw besiege the loft, Nick makes everyone else leave through the escape tunnel. He stays behind to buy them time. Trubel and Eve stay at the bottom of the ladder to fight anyone following as the others escape.
  • Did Not Think This Through: Bonaparte tortures Adalind, despite knowing her daughter is very protective of her parents and that she can and will kill anyone she views as a threat to them. Diana uses Hollywood Voodoo to make Renard kill Bonaparte with a sword.
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: Eve's wig is knocked off and her hair comes free from its severe ponytail during her Treasure-induced spasm, making her look an awful lot like Juliette again.
  • Godzilla Threshold:
    • Nick uses the Treasure on Eve as she's dying, reluctantly because they don't know exactly what it does. Turns out it turns her back into Juliette.
    • Using the tunnel to escape the besieged loft, given that they don't know where they go or if there's a way out.
  • Foreshadowing: Rosalee mentions that she misses Juliette.
  • Healing Factor: The Crusaders' Treasure.
    • Eve's wound from her fight with Bonaparte is healed, but she also suffers a spasm that seemingly returns her to Juliette.
    • During his fight with all of Black Claw, Nick is unstoppable. He's shot at least twice but just keeps on coming. The first time, he's shot in the back and doesn't seem to notice. The second time, he's shot in the chest but quickly gets back up to finish off his attacker, the last Black Claw member. Bewildered by the large amount of blood on his shirt with no wounds, he realises he put the Treasure in his shirt after healing Eve.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • Wu, Monroe and Rosalee learn of HW's fall.
    • Renard finds Rachel's strangled body.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Diana uses Hollywood Voodoo to make Renard stab Bonaparte with a sword for hurting Adalind.
  • Mind Rape: Bonaparte forces Nick to experience visions where Kelly is taken away from him over and over again. Bonaparte then tells him he can have Kelly back if he gives up the Grimm ancestry book.
  • One-Man Army: Nick with the Treasure in his jacket vs. a Black Claw hit squad. Guess who wins?
  • Pregnancy Test Plot: Rosalee takes a pregnancy test, which is positive. She spends most of the episode trying to find the right time to tell Monroe only for events to interfere. Finally, she tells him as they try to find a way out of the tunnels under the loft, mentioning that it's not exactly a great time. He tells her it's the best news he's ever heard.
Rosalee: I'm sorry. This is not how I wanted to tell you. I kept thinking that the right time would present itself, but... yeah, I'm pregnant. [Voice breaks]I know this is... it's probably, like, the last thing you want to hear right now, with everything that's going on.
Monroe: [Fighting back tears] Are you kidding me? It's the only thing I want to hear. No matter what's going on!
  • Psychic Link: At Adalind's request, Diana uses magic to warn Nick and the gang that Black Claw are coming to the loft to kill them.
  • Psychic Strangle:
    • The first torture Bonaparte uses on Nick. He soon proceeds to Mind Rape.
    • After Nick is rescued, Bonaparte does the same to Adalind to force her to tell him where Nick lives.
    • He also tries to kill Nick this way before Diana kills him.
  • Shout-Out: Eve and Bonaparte's face-off at the North Precinct recalls showdowns in Western movies as they square up to each other before the fighting starts.
  • Skyward Scream: Nick, through the Mind Rape part of the torture.
  • The Stoic: Nick looks somewhat bored as he's led through a jeering, taunting gang of Black Claw members of North precinct who've gathered to watch the Grimm get tortured.
