Recap / Duck Tales Blue Collar Scrooge

Go To

Scrooge suffers a case of amnesia, during which he protests against himself and dates Fenton's mother.

This episode contains examples of the following tropes:

  • An Aesop: Respect the rights of your employees.
  • Anachronic Order: This episode must take place before "The Big Flub" (produced and aired two episodes earlier), since Mrs. Crackshell and Scrooge know each other in that one, but she doesn't recognize him here.
  • Author Tract: This episode dealt with themes such as capitalism vs organized labor (showing the importance of responsible management, without totally demonizing it, when Uncle Scrooge lost his memory).
  • Benevolent Boss: By the end, Scrooge starts acting a lot more like one to the workers at his skateboard factory.
  • Censorship by Spelling: While in front of Mr. Trumpcard (while Fenton Crackshell is pretending to be Scrooge) Mrs. Featherby tries to hide the problem from Trumpcard with spelling.
Mrs. Featherby: There was an emergency phone-call from Mr. Beaver. The workers at the skateboard factory are on S-T-R-I-K-E.
Fenton: Strik? Streak? What? I'm a lousy speller!
  • Drunk with Power: Fenton gets a little too into playing Scrooge and soon starts acting like a caricature of him, with all his negative personality traits at full blast and none of the mitigating positive ones. He does this even when he's alone with people who know about the impersonation.
  • Easy Amnesia: Of the classic 'bonked on the head once to lose the memory, then again to get it back' variety.
  • Emergency Impersonation: Fenton pretends to be Scrooge so a deal the latter started wouldn't fall through in his absence.
  • Face on a Milk Carton: Scrooge goes to a milk carton factory to see if his picture is on one of them.
  • Fainting: Once Scrooge recovers his memory, he also remembers what happened—though when he raises salaries by a dollar an hour, he faints. Mrs. Crackshell catches him, and he admits he's grateful for her helping him, too.
  • Forgot the Call: Happened to Scrooge where a whack on the noggin causes him to lose his accent, start working at his own plant as a menial laborer, organize a labor strike protesting the unfair business practices he himself imposed, and begin a relationship with Fenton Crackshell's mother.
  • Insult Backfire: Just as he was about to sign the contract, Trumpcard tells Fenton (who was disguised as Scrooge) that when it came to business deals, he was "toughest, coldest Scotsman he ever met".
    Fenton: Sign now, compliments later!
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: Even though Fenton doesn't approve of Scrooge selling the skateboard factory, he still agrees to the Emergency Impersonation so the deal will go through.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: The factory workers don't notice that a) Fenton isn't Scrooge and b) the real Scrooge is working among them!
  • Spaghetti Kiss: Mrs. Crackshell and Scrooge do this while sharing pizza.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: Because Mr. Beaver gave the boys a skateboard, it led to Scrooge stepping on it and ending up with amnesia, putting the deal involving the skateboard factory in danger and causing Scrooge to disappear for some time. Although, it also unwittingly helped Scrooge see just how unfair the conditions were in the factory and change his mind.
  • What You Are in the Dark: When Mrs. Crackshell took the amnesiac Scrooge in, she had no idea he was the richest duck in the world and was doing this purely out of kindness.
  • Wig, Dress, Accent:
    • The episode has Scrooge get hit with amnesia, and when he can't remember who he is, he asks "And why am I talking with this accent?" in the normal voice of his VA, Alan Young. Without his glasses, accent, or even his familiar outfit, Scrooge shows up on Mrs. Crackshell's door, and she takes him in.
    • Meanwhile, Fenton appropriates all three (if you count sideburn style feathers as a wig) to play his missing boss.
