Recap / All Hail King Julien S 02 E 16 King Juli End

Go To

King Julien claims to be sick to avoid having to work, but Maurice isn't buying it so Julien goes to Dr. S who gives him the less than credible diagnosis of Mad Horse Disease and only one week to live. While nobody but King Julien is convinced, they decide to humor him while he goes out to try and make amends with everyone he has ever wronged to avoid being punished in the afterlife.

When Julien gets to Crimson to apologize for the whole leaving her at the altar affair, Crimson sees an opportunity and goes to tell Uncle Julien the news and the two make plans to take advantage of the situation. Crimson feigns forgiveness and returns to Julien's side to make his last days as comfortable as possible, all the while slipping him poison to make sure that they really are his last days.

Uncle Julien announces his plan to take over the kingdom and when the lemurs question why they would let him, Uncle Julien calls on his ally, Mary Ann. Uncle Julien has struck a deal with the fossa to be his personal enforcers in exchange for half the lemurs in the kingdom. Clover realizes that Julien is being poisoned and reveals the plot to him, but Uncle Julien simply has the fossa attack anyway. Clover fights the Fossa off as best she can while Julien groggily manages to escape. Although all seems lost, Julien vows that he will not let his uncle get away with this.

As the fossa begin carting away their share of lemurs, Uncle Julien begins his coronation ceremony. Just as the crown is about to be placed on his head, Julien arrives with his secret weapon, The Mega Gecko Aspire, a manually piloted redesign of the Mega Gecko. While Julien is in no condition to be operating heavy machinery, he manages to drive the fossa away and reclaim his crown. The day seems to be won until Julien accidentally activates the self destruct mechanism on the Mega Gecko. Realizing the kingdom could be destroyed, Julien quickly drives the Mega Gecko to a safe distance away.

Unfortunately, Julien is strapped to the Mega Gecko by a seat belt, and too groggy to unbuckle it, Julien falls with the Mega Gecko into the ocean as it explodes. Julien's crown washes up on shore and while he appears to have died, Clover insists that they will find him and keep the kingdom safe in his absence.

Tropes

  • Call-Back:
  • Convenient Coma: When Julien visits Doctor S and Rob, he finds that Rob put himself in a medically induced coma as means to get some sleep.
  • Cliffhanger: The episode ends with Julien's body floating in the ocean. He opens his eyes but is captured by a net before he can do anything.
  • Continuity Nod: The Mega Gecko returns yet again. This time instead of an AI it is fitted with a cockpit and controlled manually.
  • Killed Mid-Sentence: An oddly comedic example
Julien: I love you guys! (beat) Wait, I have more time. And also-
  • Make It Look Like an Accident: The crux of the villains' plot is to take advantage of Julien pretending to have a fatal disease to poison him so when he does die everyone simply assumes he wasn't lying after all.
  • Mistaken for Dying: Although forces conspire to make sure Julien dies for real.
  • Mythology Gag: Julien comments on Uncle Julien's whistle and attempts to do some of his own, only to blow raspberries the way he does in Madagascar 2.
  • Relocating the Explosion: Once King Julien realizes the vehicle he's on is going to self destruct and potentially blow up the kingdom, he opts to pilot it over a cliff, bailing out to save himself. Unfortunately, a seat belt fumble has him go down with the the explosion instead.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Hector has had just about enough of all the robots rampaging through the kingdom and climbs into a fossa's mouth to be taken away by them.
  • Sudden Downer Ending: While Julien is successful in saving the day, his motor skills are also still greatly impaired from the poison, so he accidentally sets off the Mega Gecko's self destruct, setting off a chain of events that leads to his apparent death.
  • Trying Not to Cry: As Maurice tries to put his foot down on the whole terminal illness routine, Julien gives him an extremely sincere heartfelt apology for anything he's ever done and Maurice has to leave because he doesn't want Julien to see him crying over Julien's fake disease.
  • Wham Episode: It ends up becoming this at the very end as we suddenly get a season-ending cliffhanger in a show where it's usually Status Quo Is God.
  • With Cat Like Tread: Julien making his escape from his fossa infested house, groggily shambling about and screaming at the top of his lungs.
Maurice: If you were trying to escape, why were you making so much dang noise?
Julien: Uh, because Maurice, I was scared! Duh!
