Recap / All Hail King Julien S 03 E 01 O Captain My Captain Part 1

Go To

Previously on… All Hail King Julien, King Julien has gone missing and presumed dead after driving the Mega Gecko Aspire into the ocean to protect the kingdom from its self destruct. The Kingdom is falling into chaos without him, especially since it is time for the Mango harvest and it is kingdom custom for the King to pick and bless the first mango of the season, lest the kingdom feel the wrath of Gladys, the goddess of fruits and grains.

Wondering where their mangoes are, Julien's assumed dead and extremely demanding parents Princess Julienne and Prince Barty arrive in the kingdom. Hoping to salvage the harvest, Maurice makes a deal with them to sit as acting king and queen so the mango harvest can go on as scheduled.

Meanwhile, the Mega Gecko's black box has revealed that Julien has in fact survived his crash, leading to Clover and Mort setting out to sea to locate him, while Julien himself has found himself prisoner on board a pirate ship.

Tropes:

  • Cliffhanger: Julienne's stuck up tastes leads her to call the first mango foul, ruining the harvest and beginning the chaos in the kingdom again, Clover's ship begins sinking at sea, and Julien's attempted mutiny has failed and he's being forced to walk the plank.
  • Ejection Seat: How Julien was able to get clear of the explosion at the last second.
  • Funny Background Event: Horst, Ted and Willie are seen playing a card game while Maurice is running back and for doing errands for Julienne and Barty. When Ted is distracted talking to Maurice, Willie sneakily palms a card off the ground with his foot.
  • The Generic Guy: Ethan's pirate crew has two generic lemurs on it. One of them is killed immediately and the other is named "No-Name Jack".
  • Improbable Weapon User: Ethan asks his crew to provide Julien with a weapon for their duel and they get Julien a broom.
  • Oblivious to Hints: Julien tries to form a plan to distract the guard to his cell with a hug while Sage steals the key, but Sage doesn't get the hint forcing Julien to get the key himself.
Julien: No, no, Sage is doing it all wrong! You see how he's ignoring the keys! that I just outlined??
  • Parental Neglect: Julien's parents left the kingdom without him, and have only returned looking for their mangoes. When told that Julien is missing and presumed dead, they can't even remember what his name was.
Barty: Missing? Well, that is serious. But I don't see what that has to do with our mangoes.
Clover and Maurice: HE'S YOUR SON!
  • Pint Sized Power House: Julien tries to duel Captain Ethan, but Ethan easily outmatches him, dueling Julien while also balancing and rolling around a barrel to compensate for the size difference.
  • Previously on…: As narrated by Piney.
  • Rake Take: Ethan gets Julien to step on his own broom this way in their duel.
  • Reports of My Death Were Greatly Exaggerated: Julien's parents turn out to be alive, having left the kingdom in exchange for a shipment of fresh mangoes every month as agreed upon by them and Uncle Julien.
  • Unexplained Recovery: Julien's near death experience that led into this whole situation was partially a result of him being extremely intoxicated due to being nearly poisoned to death. When we see him here he is just fine with no acknowledgement of his previous condition, leaving one to assume the poison has simply worked itself out of his system since then.
  • Wants a Prize for Basic Decency: Ethan motivates his crew by awarding them trophies, but this has caused his crew to become so obsessed with trophies, he can't get them to do anything anymore unless a trophy is involved.
Ethan: I'm sorry I ever started that trophy thing!
