  • How could Rosalyn's plan to end the Thorburn lineage even have worked out in the first place? Clearly it's allowed to go through male intermediaries to reach an heir. What's to stop Callan, Peter or Christoff from having a daughter before Rose's death?
    • Even (and this is possibly even implied by Kathy's child) if she set up some family enchantment to make the children all male, like the Duchamps do but opposite, said family of enchantresses would likely at least notice within a generation. Whether or not they'd meddle is anyone's guess.
    • Note that Blake was never really the heir to the power; yes he was able to Awaken (like anyone) but Rose was the one that got the Thorburn Voice. He was heir to the property (and some other fiddly complicated stuff) because he and Rose are the same person, metaphysically, being reflections of each other.

  • Why set up all of the interesting setting elements like the Implement, Familiar, and Demesne if they never really become a part of the actual story for the main characters, beyond Rose's implement and Blake's familiar? It feels like he set them up for them to do, but then got so wrapped up in writing a horror story that he realized he couldn't give the main characters real tools, otherwise the threats would no longer seem as threatening.
    • Wildbow has also admitted that he felt Pact was poorly paced, with no real time to breathe.
