Collateral

  • It's a small thing, compared with the other examples on the page, but when Paige firmly, categorically denies friendship with Blake. With Molly dead, she was the only family member he had any real connection to, only for him to find out that the feeling wasn't mutual.

Void

  • Fell's death in Void 7.3, since even in death he's still being held hostage, in this case by the Shepard.
  • Blake has always valued his connections to his friends beyond anything else, even before becoming a practitioner, and on multiple occasions he talks about how integral they are to his identity. In Void 7.11, the abstract demon eats them. Blake's friends no longer remember he ever existed and, if he's still alive, he doesn't remember them.
    • The aftermath itself is also sad. It basically undid everything he strove for:
      • Evan is falling to pieces, literally, and Rose is barely able to save him.
      • Ty is constantly searching for the connection, only to not find the right person. Alexis and Tiffany feel bad but aren't sure why.
      • The Eye is going on a rampage.
      • The Sisters and the Astrologer are fighting again.
      • The Shepard felt his dying scream and set off to find his ghost if there was one.
      • Rose found a note telling her basically that his friends were hers one step removed and to go back to Jacob's Bell.
      • Isadora is the only one who can remember him (in Toronto) and put the pieces together, but she can't even remember his name and would have to explain it to his cousin.

Signatures

  • Signature 8.1 reveals that Maggie keeps Molly's ghost around and sustains it as a reminder of her past sins.
    • The fact that she lost her identity and her own parents couldn't recognize her.
    • Ultimately she had to surrender her name before she could fall through the cracks, meaning her life would never be the same as before.

Null

  • Null 9.4 revealing that Blake was the vestige, not Rose. Pretty much his entire life pre-Molly's death was a lie.
    • Learning that he left the world worse off than before he died, which was the opposite of what he was trying to do. The accompanying visions of Fell's grave, Diana's treasured building being burned, and his friends made into targets only make things worse.

Mala Fide

  • Mala Fide 10.1 has Blake confessing to the others who he is and none of them trust him because of the circumstances. The emotional damage is literally killing him.
    • Seeing Molly, who was described as sweet and timid, becoming a rage-fueled wraith over her very violent death was heartbreaking. More so because she was taking all the guilt and power Mags gave her to try and kill her.
      • His friends and Rose sealing him away when he came there to save them hit pretty hard to the heart.

Malfeasance

  • Malfeasance 11.6 shows another example of just how messed up the Thorburn family is. Rose, as a rule, flips anything her father says because he lies often and is willing to have her sent to a mental institution to get the inheritance, her mother has to actually contemplate whether or not to defend her against accusations of being a thief, Roxanne is twelve and considered to be a budding sociopath, and Peter acknowledges that his mother cares more about money than her own children when told that their lives would be in danger if they stayed. As much as you may dislike a number of them, seeing all these issues stem from the adults and pass down to the kids, you wonder if they actually had a chance at a decent life.
  • Malfeasance 11.8 Blake's friends saying their goodbyes and there's nothing he can do to save them as Eva and Andy come after them.

Duress

  • Duress 12.3 Callan dying a painful death to try and stop The Bane from breaching the library and protecting his brother.
  • Duress 12.5 The revelation - via an Abyss-granted vision - that all of Blake's friends, including Evan, have been withholding information about his true nature. They are also hinted to have thrown their lot in with Rose and might be plotting to kill or bind him if he ever acts against her interests. The betrayal is tearing him apart throughout most of the next chapter.

Sine Die

  • Sine Die 14.8 Evan's minor breakdown after hearing Blake talking about how he doesn't see himself having a future.
Evan: “Flying! Adventures! You, me, and maybe Green Eyes if she has to come along and if she promises to stop calling me a chicken nugget! Winging through the air without a care, dang it! Over water so Green Eyes can do the dolphin thing and jump out of the waves! And then we’re supposed to fight monsters, and I go full throttle firebird Evan and raaaaaaaagagargh!“

The incoherent sound he made as he finished was a little more emotional and raw than he might have intended. More like he was screaming at me than finishing his sentence. He sat there, panting hard, tiny body swelling against the confines of my hand with each huff.

Possession

  • Possession 15.3 Alexis is missing and presumed dead, while Johannes had to sacrifice himself just to stop Barbatorem from rampaging around.
    • Follow up chapter shows that Alexis was mobbed and then fell from a great height while no one was looking, coming back as either a wraith or a bogeyman afterwards, and Tiffany and Tyler have begun to resent Blake for introducing them to everything.
