    Zombie Density
  • How is Los Perditos so packed full of Zombies? It appears to be a relatively small town. There's almost no buildings over three stories tall, no sky scrapper, no giant apartment complex. Yet the streets are almost all packed so full of zombies one can't swing a talking axe without hitting half a dozen. This is even true in the even more sparsely populated places like the northwest and northeast corners of the city. Where are they all from? I'm not complaining that the number of zombies doesn't match the number of buildings to house their formerly living selves, only that the town looks clearly sparsely populated, yet the crowds of zombies seem to match what one would expect out of a zombified overcrowded metropolis Tokyo.
    • Los Perditos is an expy of Los Angeles, which has a population of about four million, and the game is set within some of its more residential areas; Los Angeles as a city is a rough conglomeration of neighborhoods that are only loosely joined by the freeway system. The population density in So Cal is high enough that you could comfortably expect the streets to look like that. If you look, you can also see plenty of "spawn points" where zombies are making their way into the game world via the sewer system.

    Carlito's Orphans
  • Okay, so we know from Dead Rising that Carlito sent 50(?) infected orphans up to the states to various cities (according to the map seen on his laptop in 1) to set off more zombie outbreaks there, presumably at a time of his own choosing. This suggests that he a.) knew that the parasites can remain dormant in infected persons for a long period of time if controlled by Zombrex or some other method (as seen in Frank and Katey, and other infected Zombrex users who have been infected for years) OR b.) assumed that the kids would just turn immediately after they got across the border and into their new homes, causing potentially 50 outbreaks across the USA. Putting aside how he could have possibly made one of the kids “immune” to a hormone-based parasite, and why he didn’t share that knowledge with Isabela, at least, AND how he legally got 50 kids into the states all at once without raising suspicion, why have those kids not turned by the events of 3? (Especially Diego, or was his just a case of his Convenient Terminal Illness kicking in at just the right time to allow our protagonist to escape?) My theory is that, 50 kids from South/Central America? In the age of anti-immigration fears in the US, as well as a deadly epidemic that is known to have started south of the border? Those kids didn’t make it farther than Los AngelesPerdidos. They’re not about to get adopted, at any rate. That’s how Isabela knew they would have to hit Los Perdidos to find the Immune Orphan: all of them were in that city. Otherwise, was her plan to just start outbreaks in every city Carlito had planned to send a Tyke-Bomb to, hoping she’d hit the right city eventually?
    • A replay tells that some of the orphans did in fact turn; still doesn't explain why Isabela decided to attack Los Perdidos. Were Nick and Diego the only ones yet to turn?
    • This borders on YMMV territory.... But, it must be remembered that Diego only "activated" when hit with the laser (or whatever that was) by the government. Perhaps activation takes some special catalyst that has not been revealed yet. This could be an example of The Walking Dead where everyone already has it, and it takes a certain chemical or reaction in order to start turning the infection on.
    • It is possible that like a good bunch of zombie media, the kids had different levels of resistance to the parasite, so whatever they had that stopped them from turning on the spot, wore off at different times, note that Diego was complaining about feeling weird and itchy before he was hit with the laser thingy, so maybe he was on his last legs. my theory is that the plan was the kids were adopted out, and all of them had false records of a "medical condition" in which the "medicine" was only available from a certain south american "doctor". note that in dead rising 1 Isabela said she didn't know how long the prototype zombrex would actually work, one day the dose they take is too weak and bam that kid turns, then another and another all the way to nick, and some kids might not even have turned yet, but there was probably a special notice for anyone with a number tattoo on their neck to immediately go get the Ramos vaccine once it was developed.
  • It's actually explained that Carlito made it so there was a chance NONE of the kids would turn, when the orphans were infected, they were all also given different prototype vaccines also, he wasn't expecting Phenotrans to monopolize Zombrex, and cause more outbreaks than he originally planned, only those 50 were supposed to potentially turn, Nick was just the only (known) of the 50 whose prototype vaccine actually worked, although there might have been a chance a few more worked, but they were killed in an outbreak/natural causes, where a vaccination wouldn't matter.
