Funny / Zero Time Dilemma

Spoilers are unmarked per wiki policy.

  • The ending where Mira is revealed to be a Serial Killer, and describes her first kill while tearing out Eric's heart is terrifying and one of the goriest moments of the series. But the fact that the Vita/Steam achievement you get for completing it is called What is Love? Don't Hurt Me is both Mood Whiplash and a perfect example of Black Comedy.
    • The sight of Mira holding up Eric's heart while monologuing is also hurt a bit by the fact that, because of poor camera placement, the heart is held juuuuust off-screen, as if the game is unintentionally censoring it.
  • Just the sheer fact that Zero, who most definitely spent a *lot* of time and effort to completely derail the DCOM Mars experiment, took the effort to capture 9 people and prepare them for the Decision Game... only to have to let them go because he promised he would if Carlos gets the coin toss right!
    • In addition, you're guaranteed to win the coin toss the first time you do it, letting you beat the game and see the credits in 10 minutes flat!
    • Eric says the coin is blue. Mira says the coin is red. Eric says the coin is red.
  • Phi reveals her deep, dark secret: She's actually a red-head. But doubly so, as this is actually critically important foreshadowing.
    • For those who either caught on to the foreshadowing or already got the reveal, Sigma telling Phi "Your parents must have been quite the figures" while framed in a shot with Diana is both funny and ironic.
    • Phi being redesigned into having ginger eyebrows and highlights just makes the above "dark secret" even funnier - of course she's a natural red-head, she forgot to bleach her eyebrows!
  • When Eric demands to know who killed Mira, one of the available choices is... Gab. Yes, you can try to straight-facedly claim that The Dog Was the Mastermind.
    • You can do the same when trying to determine who killed Junpei. In the former case, Eric incredulously mocks you. In the latter, the game itself flat out says "How would a dog do it?"
    • You can later claim that Gab is Zero. Eric will not be impressed, though.
  • When D-Team tries to blow open a door using a bomb in the Manufacturing Room, Zero comes on the TVs and says this:
  • Junpei trying to propose to Akane. It's also a nice reminder that the awkward 999!Junpei is still there, despite everything.
Akane: (laughing) You know this is my right hand, right?
    Junpei: Wait, what?
  • The trap where C-Team has to roll 3 dice and get all ones or die trying, no matter how it turns out.
    • If they fail, their Mass "Oh, Crap!" is a priceless bit of Black Comedy.
      All: O_O
Junpei: Wait, wait wait wait wait. That one doesn't count! Um, I... uh...
Akane: Your hand slipped! That was it, right?!
      Carlos: Yeah, what she said!
Junpei: You wouldn't mind a little do over right, Zero-! [miniguns begin whirring] Whoa, OK! Guess you're not the mulligan type...
    • If they succeed, the normally moody Junpei begins dancing and whooping in celebration, and immediately runs off to get smashed at the bar.
  • In the Force Quit Timeline, Akane explains C-Team's plan to the others by saying that first, Carlos climbed on top of her. Sigma's response is priceless.
    Sigma: He WHAT?!
    • For that matter, Carlos's plan itself, if only because of how wildly out of character he's acting.
  • In C-Team's first sequence, when they discover the air vent...
Carlos: Think you can fit in there, Akane?
Akane: Uh... no. There's no way.
Junpei: Someone likes cake too much.
Akane: Oh, I know! Let's cut off Junpei's arm! He should be able to fit through then.
  • D-Team's first sequence with the air vent involves this exchange between Phi and Sigma.
Sigma: (asking her to go through the air vent) You're up, Phi.
Phi: You want me to go in there? It's clearly impossible.
    Sigma: You sure?
Phi: I won't repeat myself. My boobs are... Ds.
Sigma: Your pants are on fire.
    Phi: It's true.
Sigma: It seems to me they've gotten a full size larger than the last time you told me.
Phi: It's been forty-five years. Growing is natural.
    Sigma: You were just sleeping...
  • In the Pantry although what ends up happening after completing it is horrible, Carlos spending a good majority of the time teasing Akane about her love for Junpei is worth a chuckle.
  • Sigma and Diana find Phi trapped inside the incinerator room. This dialogue happens:
Sigma: What the hell are you doing in there?!
Phi: Cutting my next album. What do you think I'm doing?!
    • When Sigma is bound to the metal chair, Diana can go around poking his limbs. Poke his pants, and he'll tell Diana he has something important in there. Diana very quickly flusters at the notion.
    • Heck, having Diana poke Sigma's other limbs also produces amusing responses despite the dire situation they're in. For example, if Diana examines his chest...
Diana: Oh...! Uh, wow, your chest is... strong.
      Sigma: ...Satisfied?
  • Even in her own narration (when describing the incinerator's dust chute) Phi stubbornly insists that her breasts are big.
    • The entire conversation you get if you examine the dust chute from Phi's side. Sigma attempts to convince Phi to try to escape through the dust chute. Phi insists she would just get caught because her chest is big. Naturally, Sigma is exasperated by this claim enough to actually ask Diana to take her clothes off for sake of proving a point. Which makes it funnier is that it's subtlety implying Diana has a larger chest size than Phi. More so when you realize it was one thing Phi didn't inherit from Diana.
  • The return of Junpei's Funyarinpa gag in the Rec Room is rather chuckle-worthy.
  • The Brick Joke that occurs on the path to C-END-1. Junpei suggests a plan and Carlos swears he'll kill Junpei if he gets them killed. When they jump to a different timeline, Junpei goes about revealing his plan:
Junpei: Listen, Carlos and I will protect you... and die.
    Carlos: THE FUCK...!?
    • Another (unintentional) C-END example lies when Carlos decides to use the transporter and go back 10 months to save Akane and Junpei. Once the trio arise to the surface, Junpei and Akane chew Carlos out, saying he could've used those 10 months to not only stop Zero's plan, but prevent Radical-6 and Sigma's injuries. The face Carlos makes after being informed of all this is priceless.
  • In the Locker Room, after you've retrieved the garden hose from the small private shower cubicle, you can immediately make Sigma and Diana climb inside together. If you hadn't spotted the Unresolved Sexual Tension between them before it becomes rather obvious. Becomes Harsher in Hindsight when you find out Sigma's past self loved Diana's future self, or that the two of them become lovers (and parents) in another timeline.
  • Carlos appointing himself as Akane's wingman and managing to get done in 10 hours what she couldn't in 22 years.
  • In the ice-covered power room, Akane brushes away Junpei's concerns that she'll slip and fall. Several minutes later, she does.
  • In the same room, one of the Dead Ends leads to Carlos, a fireman, being beaten to death with a fire extinguisher. Oh, the irony.
  • Akane explodes a nuclear reactor to test a new hypothesis of hers. Apparently she's quite the adrenaline junkie.
    • And then she deflects Junpei's objection to this by flirting with him.
  • Junpei abruptly remembering Akane's nature when she plans to train Carlos to shift by dooming their alternate selves.
Junpei: Oh, right. I forgot you were like that.
  • Carlos realizing that he has no better option than risking death to awaken superpowers he's not even sure exist. Even as he shifts out, he's screaming, "Dammit!"
  • The way this happens in the Get Back fragment. The fragment is pretty serious, but the way THIS happens can make some people laugh:
    Carlos: Then do it.
    Eric: HUH...?!
Carlos: You heard me. Shoot me. Don't worry, I won't die. Even if this body is destroyed, my consciousness will be-
  • Delta's major underreaction after shooting several people in Q-END 2.
    "Mom."
  • Junpei's confusion when Akane first flirts with him in the reactor room. He knows she's trying to manipulate him somehow, but not why or how to react to it.
  • In the Pantry section (where Junpei is mysteriously absent from the team), clicking on the lights will prompt Akane to say that she doubts Junpei is hiding behind them.
  • Phi elects to have Sigma carry a live bomb because:
"Men carry the heavy stuff. It's been that way since ancient times."
    • The genuinely sad look on Sigma's face afterward really sells it.
  • The post-game files reveal that the air ducts which Gab uses to deliver messages really just lead to a small room with a rug where he takes a nap.
  • After getting all the keys off the harpsichord, examining it again will cause Diana to comment only the black keys are left... then Phi goes to make a remark about the same thing happening for Sigma's hair. Sigma's response is to argue his hair is fine in 45 years since Phi has seen it herself.
  • The sheer over-the-top nature of the "Don't Press This Button" button. It doesn't kill the person who presses it. It doesn't kill their team. It blows up the entire facility, including Zero himself. You really shouldn't press that button.
  • For a guy mentally in his sixties, Sigma acts like a dork with the bucket in the Locker Room. Diana's reactions to it makes it even better.
    • When you pick up the bucket...
Sigma: There's a bucket. Wear it on your head to gain defense!
Diana: ...I think we can find another use for it aside from wearing it.
    • Then when you examine the bucket in the inventory...
      Diana: ...
Sigma: Talking with a bucket on your head gives you this really loud echo.
Diana: It makes me happy you're trying to cheer me up, but could you take that off your head?
    • Finally, when you have to fill the bucket with water, Diana has to ask Sigma to take the bucket off his head.
  • If you know Zero's identity then the Mexican Standoff in the library with Q-Team becomes incredibly funny when you type in Delta and Sean turns around and shoots Delta - who everyone thinks is a wheelchair-bound old man who is deaf and blind - to Eric and Mira's horrified looks. The idea of this innocent little (robot) kid casually shooting Zero with a crossbow is pretty amusing when you think about it.
  • While it's genuinely also a Moment of Awesome, Phi drop kicking Zero aka Delta in the face out of anger for the measures he took to invoke a Stable Time Loop is also hilarious, just because the idea Phi kicking Zero hard enough to send him flying into a wall itself is absurd just thinking about.
  • If the bottle of oil in the Rec Room is examined, one quote from the ensuing conversation is particularly funny.
Junpei: Fried chicken? What is this, Zero's Cooking Hour?
  • In the pod room, Q and Eric discover Mira's body. Eric quickly suspects Q, who denies being the killer. Later, when they return to the room, they discover that Mira has someone's blood and skin on her nails, which implies she scratched someone before dying.
Eric: The killer should have some scratches from Mira somewhere on their body...
Q: Should I... take my clothes off?
  • C-Team discussing the possibility that they're being watched through security cameras:
Carlos: Huh? There are security cameras in this place?
Akane: Carlos, it's 2028. I'd be more surprised if there aren't cameras hidden everywhere.
Junpei: She's right. The ones I used for work were about the size of a woman's nipple. Well, I guess not uniformly. Nipple sizes differ.
  • At the beginning of the game, after learning how the X-Door works, Phi quips that Sigma could die in order to gain a password.
Sigma: I politely, but firmly, refrain.
  • While Q is explaining to Mira and Eric the concept that a person's experiences can alter which of their genes (or the genes of their offspring) are "switched on", we get this gem:
Mira: So if Eric and I did the horizontal tango right now, then the baby would have psychic powers?
    • Eric's response is to stand around blushing, clearly picturing it.
  • During the Execution vote, Akane proposes that C-Team sends a message to the other teams by deploying Gab, sparking the following conversation:
    Junpei: What did you throw?
    Carlos: Cheese.
Junpei: Why don't we toss in some ketchup and pickles too. Maybe next time he comes back he'll be a hot dog.
  • In the biolab, Eric is disturbed by the pig that's pickled in formaldehyde, while Mira's unperturbed by it. Eric hides behind her while saying "Don't worry, Mira, I'm right here with you."
  • Junpei and Akane, in the escape room where they've been poisoned:
Akane: So, Junpei Tenmyouji, what seems to be the problem today?
Junpei: Please doc, you gotta help me! I think I've been poisoned! ...Too soon?
  • This Zero seems to have a bit of a sense of humor, judging by some of the doll images he assigned to the characters. Highlights include Akane being depicted as a moe Cat Girl Nendoroid figure and Phi being depicted as a paper doll (i.e. flat).
