- John's lecture to William about healthcare starts out as intimidating as it should be, then takes a surprisingly amusing turn.John: Healthcare decisions should be made by doctors and their patients, not by the government. Well, now I know they're not made by doctors and their patients or the government. They're made by the fucking insurance companies.
[Beat, tense music reaches a crescendo, then stops]
John: [amusedly] Piranha! [cut to John staring into William's fish tank, which is full of piranha]- Making this even funnier is that John first sounds like he has some serious ADD, and when he changes he seems to have suddenly noticed the fish.
- In the same scene:William: The type of cancer you have is malignant and inoperable.
John: That rolled off your tongue real smooth.
William: Even if the treatment works, the cancer will return eventually. It's an unwinnable battle.
John: That was even smoother. As a matter of fact, that was downright slick.
- In the Shotgun Carousel, six people spin around in a cage, and William, who's outside has to choose which two to live by pressing buttons to hold back a bullet on the person it's aiming at, making a sacrifice of his own by doing so. This is undoubtedly a very serious moment like always, but when they try to lie to convince him not to kill them, it becomes a little funny, particularly when they drag on and on with the lie.Gena: Uhmm... I- I'm pregnant! I'm- I am pregnant!
Josh: No, she's not! She's lying! She's fucking lying! Mr. Easton, she's lying!
Shelby: Mr. Easton, she's lying!
Gena: Fuck you!
Josh: Mr. Easton, she's lying!
Gena: I'm pregnant!
Josh: She's lying!
Gena: (as the carousel stops with her in front of the shotgun) No! No, fuck! I'm pregnant!
Josh: No, she's lying! She's fucking lying!
Shelby: Mr. Easton, it's not true!
Gena: Please! Please! (the shotgun begins to arm) Fuck! Push the thing! PUSH THE THING!
Josh: She's lying!
Gena: No, Mr. Easton! Push it, push the thing!- The first victim, Aaron, has a surprisingly hilarious moment of Tempting Fate at the start:
Aaron: Listen to me. Mr. Easton, I am the one who should live, okay? (is immediately stopped before the shotgun first) Fuck.
