You'll notice that the Little Prince answers the fox and snake's questions, but never directly answers the pilot's. It seems odd that he wants to hide so much from the pilot even though he does consider the pilot a friend. In hindsight, however, it turns out that the little prince meets the pilot on the way back to his meeting place with the snake. Of course he wouldn't want to share too much of himself with someone he'll never see again.
Maybe. But the whole point is that Love Hurts. He's not really trying to keep his distance from the pilot — otherwise, why the drawing and the talks, and the well?
