I.-.-.I Kuroyagi I.-.-.I

  • Recommended by: Epic Ebi
  • Comments: Kuroyagi mostly writes Fairy Tail shipping fics, the main pairing being Natsu and Erza. Recently he has gotten into crossovers with Bleach. He's a great author and comes up with dozens of original ideas that are written so well that it's not hard to see any of these stories happening in canon. All of his works are worth the read.

darkfire1220

  • Recommended by: Ubaidk24
  • Comments: darkfire has written 5 fairy tail fics so far, three of which are part of a series. They're based on the idea that Natsu and Sting were raised together and became Fairy Tail's twin dragons. The other main idea in this is that it was Natsu, not Lisanna, that went to Edolas. There are ships (Nali, Sticy, Rouge x Yukino, etc.) and they're done in a way that's so real and believable that you sometimes forget they aren't canon. All of his works are definitely worth a read.

bellagill92

  • Recommended by: Jboone 93
  • Comments: a series of funny/fluffy fics mostly centered around Jellal and Erza trying to live together and deal with the guild's hijinks, which eventually became it's own universe. Most of the fics are based around humor, but a few are pure romance. There are one or two that are lemony and he marks them as such. It should be noted that the various Crime Sorciere characters dispersed among the various legal guilds. The most common pairing is Jellal/Erza, but the author also does Natsu/Lucy, Gray/Juvia, Gajeel/Levy, Mirajane/Laxus, Cobra/Kinana, Sting/Minerva and Rogue/Yukino.

Crimson Starbird

  • Recommended by: Gamma Cavy
  • Comments: Starbird has a firm grip on the charachters she writes for, and her love for Fairy Tail comes through clearly in each word she writes. With such ideas as a put-upon Zeref teaching Gildarts magic pre-series and the Fairy Tail guild members blackmailing "Councilman Seigrain" into becoming one of them for a month, utterly subverting the Tower of Heaven arc along the way, the crimson starbird's works are Fairy Tail at its wackiest, most wonderful, loving reality.

Mslead

  • Recommended by: Sayacha
  • Notes: Alternate link here.
  • Comments: Mslead has done a number of fanfictions so far, most notably Parallels and Golem, her latest project with fellow author Kytrin. She does a lot of AU work, but most are still heavily tied in with the canon story. Everyone is also very much in character and the stories themselves are wonderfully written and detailed. They mostly focus on Natsu/Lucy as a pairing, but include others such as Gray/Juvia, Levy/Gajeel, and Sting/Yukino. Be warned that there are a few lemons scattered about in many of her fics, but each story is indeed worth reading. She also has illustrated many scenes from her stories on her tumblr.

digemsmack

  • Recommended by: Awareness Bringer
  • Comments: A proponent of the concept that Dragon Slayers literally and figuratively mark their mates, Digemsmack has written several stories featuring Natsu in a different pairing as well as some stories featuring him in a darker light compared to canon.

dragonshost

  • Recommended by: SubversionStation
  • Comments: Dragonshost is a particularly active FT fanfic writer, with over 450 works under their belt. They specialize in oneshots and short chapter fics focused on crack pairings; as they say on their profile: "Crackships, non-canon ships, and minor characters are my favorite thing." Anyone shipping CoLu is encouraged to check this writer out, as the pairing is their OTP and thus has several amazing works dedicated to the pair.

wordslinger

    General Fics
Stories focused on the family and the friendly relationships of the cast. Plot-focused stories or light day-in-the-life stories. Pretty much anything that isn't focused on romance.

Animal by Scyllia

  • Recommended by: gaga4badmusic
  • Status: Dead
  • Synopsis: Natsu is rescued from a dark guild after five months of torture. Completely broken, the guild struggles to overcome the shock of seeing him in such a state and help him recover.

Fairy Tail Redux: Salamander's Time Traveling Escapades by FoxOnPie

  • Recommended by: Wamuuz Arashi
  • Status: Dead
  • Synopsis: When Zeref kills all of Natsu's friends for failing to kill him, he gets sent back in time to X782 to try and get strong enough to change things. Will Natsu be able to protect his friends? What exactly is their connection? And what dark secrets are there that will affect not only Natsu, but the world as a whole?
  • Comments: This author manages to handle the characters well and writes in a way that can be serious and humorous whenever necessary. It's definitely one of the best Fairy Tail fics with this basic plot and might be one of the best reads in the category.
  • Note: The link is currently dead; the link listed above actually goes to the work’s trope page.

Twin-Paradox-Slayer Quartet by Miss Mungoe

  • Recommended by: Dellanotte
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: A oneshot quartet based on the fan theory that Sting and Rogue are Natsu and Gajeel's sons from the future:
    • out of time It's what they don't have, but what they need more than anything. And it is to Time they will give them, these treasures closest to their hearts.
    • not yet, brave child He shoulders the burden alone, because who would believe him?
    • brilliance of the sun His world is shrouded in darkness, but he has known light, once.
    • the time is now "I am taking you home."
  • Comments: It's basically a series of sucker punches, natural fears, and Time Travel. With the way the author manages to write "in the moment," sometimes the full scenario can take a bit to become clear. Which makes it all the more heart-wrenching. Poor boys...

We Are Young by koa-chan

  • Recommended by: Ubaidk24
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: A high school AU story that's mainly inspired by the Fairy Gakuen OVA. Most of the main cast are students and the story is about the relationships and lives between the students of the school.
  • Comments: A fantastically well written AU story. None of the characters are out of character at all and some even get more characterization. Ships include: NaLu, GaLe, JerZa, GruVia, Fraxus, and Elfgreen, with other minor pairings on the side. There are 23 chapters with a total of 300k words and every single one of them is worth your time.

Eye of the Black Dragon by snakeboy33

  • Recommended by: gk3389127
  • Status: Dormant; last updated June 2018
  • Synopsis: Instead of being raised by Igneel, Natsu is raised by Acnologia, and as a result, is taught a kind of Dragon Slayer Magic called "Chaos Dragon Slayer Magic", so named because, according to the author "Apocalypse Dragon Slayer Magic" was too much of a mouthful. Follows the canon, with necessary deviations.
  • Comments: A dark-Natsu story, but not entirely dark, as he develops over time. The pairing with Natsu is undecided, but has been narrowed down between Lucy and Erza. One confirmed pairing is GruVia.

Firelight and Shadows by V. Shalyr

  • Recommended by: Gamma Cavy
  • Status: Dormant; last updated January 2018
  • Synopsis: They met on one of Natsu's solo jobs. Perhaps it would be too cliché to say their lives were changed forever, but it was true. Because if anyone had the power to change the course of destiny, it would be this Dragon Slayer and the immortal dark wizard he can't seem to let go.
  • Comments: Begun long before the identity of the elder Dragneel brother was revealed, Firelight and Shadows is as family/friendship story which, despite having a yaoi pairing of Natsu/Zeraf, is 99% romance free. Details on the relationships take place in the background, and the stroy centers around the group dynamics of Fairy Tail's strongest, how the addition of Zeref changes things, and whether Dragon Slayers can become dragons.

Melting Hours by EXNativo

  • Recommended by: Ravaelt, Oak Septic
  • Status: Dead
  • Synopsis: Your last hope of salvation from a world that despises you lies dead at your feet. And even if you have to drag him, kicking and screaming, his reluctant best friend is going to rectify that. Time Travel fic, with a twist.
  • Warnings: Lots of swearing (as in F-bombs every chapter), and the author has a very dirty sense of humor.
  • Comments: The author manages to capture to perfect blend of serious plot and typical Fairy Tail insanity as well as keeping everybody in character. Compared the majority of Time Travel fics, it avoids character bashing and ensures character development based on how the new timeline unfolds. Definitely worth a read.

One Word to Change the World by Agent Malkere.

  • Recommended by: HattedHalfling, eeveelutionlover2000
  • Status: Dead (last updated April 2017); episodic, a series of shorter fics all set in the same universe and strung together as a larger fic.
  • Synopsis: In just one universe, Ultear called out to her mother instead of turning away and the fate of Fairy Tail and the world was irrevocably altered. Glimpses of a world where a single word made all the difference.
  • Comments: For everyone who got to that one scene regarding Ultear and Ur in the Tenrou Island Arc and felt their heart break… this fic is for you. Interesting in that while certain canon events take place and are referenced, such as the Phantom Lord Battle and Nirvana, others happen very differently. Ex: With Ultear not there to brainwash him, Brain never gets his claws into Jellal and the Tower of Heaven is taken down much sooner in this world, leading to Erza, Jellal, and Simon all joining Fairy Tail together. Some avenues not explored in the show or manga are delved into here, such as Bickslow’s past and powers, and while not the main focus of the fic, the author has laid some groundwork for a few ships and centers one or two chapters on certain pairings; the confirmed pairings are Gajevy, Cobkina, and Bixanna. It’s fun, it’s interesting, and it’s definitely a unique spin on the magical land of Fiore and its inhabitants!
  • Note: The Ao3 version can be found here.

Tales of Fairies by RicardianScholar Clark-Weasley.

  • Recommended by: DigiXBot
  • Status: Dormant as a series of one-shot stories. Some are alternate works. Some are part of their own series; last updated April 2018
  • Synopsis: A collection of one-shots about the characters of Fairy Tail.
  • Comments: Themes range from humor, to friendship, to romance, and to tragedy. They are even some oneshot mini-series, such as Hoarding Lucy, where Natsu asks Lucy to marry him at the start; and Battle of Roses, a War of the Roses inspired story with the Fairy Tails cast in the roles of the Lancasters and the Yorks. Prominent Pairings include Nalu, Gruvia, Gale, and Jerza.

The Fourth of Jellal by dragonshost

  • Recommended by: BookCat
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: Under the weight of the latest damage report (and subsequent bill), Makarov decides that it's finally time to retire as Guild Master and (forcibly) appoint a successor. Mystogan will never know what hit him.
  • Comments: An AU where, before the events of the series, Makarov finally decides to pull a Screw This, I'm Out of Here! and hand off Guild Master duties to the next S-Class wizard who walks into the guild, the unfortunate S-Classer being Mystogan. An absolutely hilarious read, especially since the vast majority of the fic is Mystogan having a quiet breakdown over the new turn of events.
    • Definately a fun read if you like the idea of Mystogan as Fairy Tail's guildmaster.

Witch's Sin by Evilkitten3

  • Recommended by: SubversionStation
  • Status: Dormant
  • Synopsis: Sometimes, putting broken things back together is easy. Sometimes it isn't. This isn't a fairy tale, and it sure as hell isn't Fairy Tail, but it's what they've got and they'll have to make do with it. A non-chronological series of Crime Sorcière oneshots, starring Jellal, Merudy, Ultear, Erik, Richard, Sorano, Macbeth, and Sawyer (and sometimes a few others).
  • Comments: As the synopsis said, this fic is a bunch of oneshots focused mainly on the members of Crime Sorcière. It has a few grammar mistakes, but the stories are well told and shed light on some fascinating issues and scenarios not addressed in the series.

Dragon's Armada Project by dragonshost

  • Recommended by SubversionStation
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Comments: A series of short oneshots based around different crack pairings, including het, slash, and OT3s. However, the majority of the oneshots contain little more than ship tease and function just fine as platonic character studies, hence why I haven't put this in Shipping Fics. All of them are great, but ones like Hesitation, Salt and Resentment are truly stellar. The series contains 60 works thus far and is still going strong.

Steely Happiness by MidnightSymphony1

  • Recommended by: SubversionStation
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Pantherlily was Gajeel's brother, through and through. No traitorous action or otherwise would make him feel different.
  • Comments: A oneshot about Panther Lily's relationship with Gajeel. Short but sweet.

Resuscitate Me by reinariel

  • Recommended by: SubversionStation
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: AU. Flash Fic/Snippet. Unfortunately Mavis' cunning plan went haywire, inciting a battle between the Blue Skull members and the future founders of Fairy Tail. Luckily, Zeref had been following them and decided to lend his students a hand. However during the battle, something went horribly wrong. Could be seen as implied Zervis.
  • Comments: As the author says, this is an angsty alternative to Chapter 8 of Fairy Tail Zero. It's shorter than your average oneshot, but it hits hard.

Sound of a Dream by silverwolf_fox

  • Recommended by: SubversionStation
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Cobra lost more than a battle during Nirvana. Trapped in a world of silence, he coped until he discovered that even with his magic and her new form, Cubellios' voice was still hidden from him. With the help of friends and a new language, he will finally be able to have what he's always wanted.
  • Comments: An AU where Cobra is rendered deaf in the Nirvana Arc. The character portrayals are spot-on, and it's fun watching Kinana and Erik communicate through sign language.

Envy by UncrewedCandy29

  • Recommended by: SubversionStation
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: An emotion which occurs when a person lacks another's superior quality, achievement or possession and either desires it or wishes that the other lacked it. It is known as a sin. Kinabra. One-shot. Canonverse AU. Part of Seven Deadly Sins series.
  • Comments: While the promised series never kicked off (this is the only thing that came of it), this works well as a standalone and really captures what it might be like in the mind of Erik/Cobra.

to learn about a lucy (with a look into the future.) by るる凪 - nagi (arurun)

  • Recommended by: eeveelutionlover2000
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: A watching the future fanfic. It's currently X781, three years before canon. A group of Fairy Tail mages find themselves in a large building, with no known way out. They sit down, and they watch the future.

The Fairy Mythos Series by Navek

  • Recommended by: Avenger Green
  • Status: Dead, officially canceled by the author and has been rebooted as Fairy Tail: The Bravestar Saga
  • Synopsis: It is a world familiar but different. A world of heroes both new and old. These are the adventures of one team of heroes. They are Morningstar, Fairy Tail's Number One team! Welcome to the Fairy Mythos Series!
    • Fairy Tail: A New Day What if Natsu already had a team before he met Lucy at Hargeon? What if the Guild had a few different members in the past? How will this affect the future of Fairy Tail? Read to find out as Team Morningstar takes the Magic World by storm! And don't forget to have some fun on the way! First Story in the Fairy Mythos Series!
    • Fairy Tail: Homecoming After their grueling encounter with the Holy Crusaders, Team Morningstar returns to Magnolia and find that a lot has changed. They have a new guild hall, a new master, and even some new members. But they also have to deal with new enemies. Some from within their guild, some from their past, and others they can only begin to comprehend. Second Story in the Fairy Mythos Series!
    • Avalon Academy First Fairy Mythos spin-off! Avalon Academy; a school where the best and brightest students go to master their magic. This is the story of an ambitious young man looking for a purpose, an amateur author trying to help her family, a protegee hoping to continue his father's legacy, and a young girl trying to remember her past. Class is in session!
  • Comments: While at first, this story seems like a retelling of Fairy Tail with some OCs, it soon becomes abundantly clear that this an AU fic, and one of the most well-thought-out fics on the site. Be forewarned, there are tons of divergence from canon and tons of Original Characters (many of which are paired up with Canon characters). However, don't let that stop you from reading. Each of the new characters feel like they belong in Fairy Tail, the magic system is more defined than the manga or anime, and the author has put in an insane amount of effort with the world-building.

Crystallux by HalcyonNight

  • Recommended by: Rage Against The Author
  • Status: Dead
  • Synopsis: 'How did he get himself into these kinds of situations' - Carbuncle, a young agent trained in espionage and subterfuge, is forced by the Magic Council into infiltrating the deadly Dark Guild Oracion Seis. Formerly independent, he has to work together with an eclectic group to survive.
  • Comments: A wonderful Send Your OCs story. In fact, the best I've read. Halcyon really has a knack for handling OCs, finding ways to deal even with horrible OCs sent her way. The jokes are hilarious and the grammar's good to boot! Read it if you need your faith in OCs restored. Also: Carbuncle's Bitchiness says hi.

Dragons Among Us by GaleSynch

  • Recommended by Rexan
  • Status: Dormant
  • Synopsis: AU. I wished someone had told me beforehand that life in Fairy Tail world wasn't easy. The thrill of being a mage couldn't quite compensate for the problems I'm going through. [Self-Insert, Male OC]
  • Comments: It's obviously a Self-Insert, but it's actually good. Some characters may be a little off, but it's possibly because the story starts before canon does. Oh, yeah, and these guys show up too.

Flitting Dreams by Riseha

  • Recommended by: Rexan
  • Status: Dead
  • Synopsis: AU, Waking up in a world that's eerily perfect, in the body of a stranger child, a girl chases after a stranger who claims to know the way home; but when she discovers the truth about this perfect world she must decide the value of her own life before condemning another to a fate worse than death, or killing herself to save them. Self Insert, SI, OC.
  • Comments: Another Self-Insert, though well-written. Laxus-centric. Unfortunately, the author has not updated in a while.

Child of Heaven by jacques0

  • Recommended by: Sarcasticgirl777, eeveelutionlover2000
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Throw a stone into a river and it causes ripples...A soft spoken yet courageous girl get thrown into the world of Fairy Tail and she start to cause ripples...some she might not be even aware of... Self insert.
  • Notes: Has a dormant collection of side stories, Falling Stars (last updated April 2018).
  • Comments: Most of the characters from the original series are in character. There are a few other OCs added into the story, but they help to build up Eve. Eve herself seems to fit in pretty well with the whole cast of Fairy Tail and helps to bring in more depth to them as well. The author does a good job of sprinkling little hints throughout the story of what is to come and also has a penchant for cliffhangers. As a side note, the pairing for this story is refreshing and their interactions are heartwarming. A definite must-read if you are a huge fan of Fairy Tail and enjoy seeing how one new character is able to add more to the story.

The Brightholt Chronicles by Origm2012

  • Recommended by: Hunting High And Low
  • Status: Discontinued
  • Synopsis: An affluent town on the West coast of Fiore is home to three guilds. They'll compete for incoming recruits, protect Brightholt City from danger, and battle against one another for dominance.
  • Comments: Best SYOC I know, with excellent attention to detail, a huge yet fairly detailed cast, and a good bit of world building all the while. A must-read for fans of SYOC.

Beyond the Ocean Deep by villainintentions

  • Recommended by murdermayhem
  • NOTE: Link is dead; if someone could find a working one, it would be much appreciated.
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: This wasn't meant to happen, but the universe never did work in her favor. The idea of reincarnation was never confirmed in her world, but that didn't seem to deter the fates. She should have known though, even the smallest drop of water can create a ripple in the entire ocean. (Reincarnated!OC)
  • Comments: I loved the original version and was a bit disappointed when she stopped updating but it's being rewritten now. The plot is good, the writing is detailed, I like the main character (which is a surprise) and the premise is interesting in it's own way (the MC is from a world villainintentions created). If you want a good SI!OC fic that isn't from our world, this one is a great read.

Amongst Untrodden Ways by SecretEngima

  • Recommended by Sarcasticgirl 777
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: She hadn't asked for this. Any of it. Being slashed through the throat, waking up in a world that shouldn't exist, being a sister to a fictional character, getting a wild family that steamrolled over things like reality, impossibility, and destiny via bullheadedness and faith in each other, or falling in love with a competitive idiot. She hadn't asked...but she loved them anyway.
  • Notes: Has a collection of side stories, Amongst Untrodden Ways: Detours

Ripples by the real narnia

  • Recommended by: eeveelutionlover2000
  • Status: Hiatus
  • Synopsis: After dying in her original world, a girl goes to the Fairy Tail universe, hoping to change things for the better. But does her appearance there make it better, or worse? Fix-it fic.
  • Note: The Ao3 version can be found here.

it's a timeless verity. by リリス - riris (arurun)

  • Recommended by: eeveelutionlover2000
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: Living once as an overworked teenage mom (dad, big brother, whatever) taught him a lot of things. For example— don't pick up anymore children that look homeless, and don't save anymore little girls that are being herded in by suspicious older men. "And somehow I became delegated nanny of the guild. Amazing. Bring on all the little gremlins, why don't you? I'll start a fucking daycare at this point. I should charge for this."

    Shipping Fics
Stories focused on the romantic relationships between the cast.

Lion's Pride by Wild Rhov

  • Recommended by: serpantchan
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing: Loke/Lucy.
  • Synopsis: Lucy ends up pregnant with Loke's child, the second known half-spirit in existence. She struggles to deal with the unusual rate at which her child grows while Loke faces repercussions in the Spirit World, who fear that the baby may turn out like the only other known half-breed, an infamous criminal mage. To make matters worse, amidst the two's troubles, a rogue spirit and an ancient woman are trying to capture the child and use it for unknown sinister ends.
  • Comments: Totally better than it sounds. Some of the plot twists and reveals, such as the previous half-spirit, are a little obvious, while others are alluded to just enough that you can tell the story was well thought out. Lucy can get a little whiny at times, but never so much so that it's out of character or at a time when it's uncalled for.
    • Weighing in at a hefty 100k+ words, this story manages to squeeze every emotion out of its readers. Although some parts are Not Safe for Work, the majority of the story is packed full of drama, action, emotion, and hilarity. It can also be educational, as some reviewers have said that the astronomy lessons found in extensive footnotes have helped them in school!

An Everlasting Bond by AquaTitaniaMiyuki

It Started With a Debt by petpermint

  • Recommended by: serpantchan
  • Status: Dormant
  • Pairing: Sting/Lucy.
  • Synopsis: Lucy finds Sting drunk after the tournament and decides to help him out. He shows up later wanting to repay her and the two begin a series of favors owed that slowly develops into a relationship. Fearing the wrath of either their guild mates or guild master should it get out that they're dating, the two try to keep one another secret.
  • Comments: Sting is surprisingly in-character for a fic written before he'd had any serious screen time, and the rest of the cast is spot on. Their courtship is really cute and a lot of the scene are pretty hilarious. Your heart may bleed a bit for Natsu, though.

The Dragon's Ward by magneticworld

  • Recommended by: Half Demon Cali
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing: Natsu/Lucy
  • Synopsis: Lucy Heartphillia is thrown into a deep slumber meant to last until she is rescued by her "prince charming", she is left in a tower guarded by a fearsome dragon. Somehow, things don't go according to plan.
  • Comments: It borders on 90k words. Some grammatical errors, but nothing too jarring. The shout-out to Shrek was particularly enjoyable.

Kidnapping Erza by CrimsonStarbird

  • Recommended by: Lord Vectorum 84
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing: Jellal/Erza, some background Juvia/Gray.
  • Synopsis: After inclement weather causes Erza and the others to cancel their trip to Akane Resort, thus ruining Jellal's plan to have her captured and brought to the Tower of Heaven, he is forced to take matters into his own hands. Needless to say, things don't quite go to plan. They never do when Fairy Tail is involved.
  • Comments: A hilarious story where Jellal/Seigrain gets caught in Erza's rooms going through her stuff before Lucy knocks him out and gets blackmailed into joining Fairy Tail, derailing the entire Tower of Heaven arc and dragging Jellal into the craziness that is Fairy Tail. Jellal's characterization is excellent and his reluctant bonding with other members of Fairy Tail such as Lucy, Levy, and Natsu is very well done.

Possession by HawkofNavarre

  • Recommended by: starstuff99, Maymei
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing: Natsu/Lucy
  • Synopsis: She didn't belong to him...Yet.
  • Comments: Probably one of the most realistic takes on Natsu/Lucy I've ever read, compared to the vast majority of garbage that's usually written. It starts with Lucy finding out she's out of the loop as to everyone regarding her as "Natsu's girl", and spirals off into fluff, complications, and mixed messages.
  • Notes: Has two spin-offs, You Stole the Rain featuring Gray/Juvia and Limits featuring Levy/Gajeel.

Confession Confusion by hikarijade13

  • Recommended by: Lord Vectorum 84
  • Status: Complete
  • Pairing: Jellal/Erza, background Gray/Juvia & Lucy/Natsu
  • Synopsis: Erza finally confesses her feelings to Jellal but his confusing reaction is not what she expected. Are these childhood friends really going to graduate high school not even talking to one another? AU
  • Comments: Usually Jellal/Erza Highschool AU don't really work for me, since they tend to omit or really downplay the angst and drama that I love with this pairing that makes a happy ending so enjoyable. Here however? The sheer amount of miscommunications and drama that ensue really made this fic a blast to read, with both Jellal and Erza jumping to conclusions and making hasty decision they later angst over. Jellal and Erza's mutual bumbling nicely captured the awkward dynamic of Jerza well. Extra points for Simon being a supportive Nice Guy and Jellal's ex-girlfriend being someone I never expected. The author has another good fic in the same setting that focuses on Gray and Juvia's relationship.

Oneiric by VickyVicarious

  • Pairing: Gray/Lucy
  • Synopsis: Some claim that dreams reveal true desires.
  • Comments: Adorable is the only way I can describe it. Gray realizes he is in love with Lucy via dreams, and attempts to "woo" her (thanks, Elfman). It doesn't end well. ...At first. Features some beautiful descriptions, and the way the author weaves the dreams with reality is breathtaking.

  • Pairing: Gajeel/Levy
  • Synopsis: Theirs was not a relationship that got off at an easy start. Unyielding in their convictions, he is as intent on backing away as she is on moving forward. Set during the Magic Tournament.

  • Pairings: Gajeel/Levy, Natsu/Lucy
  • Synopsis: AU set in the Magnolia-version of New York during the 1920s Prohibition. In a world of hostile takeovers, bootleggers and speakeasies, two prejudiced individuals learn that getting along is about as easy as drinking in public.
  • Comments: It's fun to see how the author adopts Fairy Tail to the 20s. For example, Gajeel is a former boxer turned enforcer turned bootlegger. What's not to like?

  • Synopsis: Pre Time Skip - Juvia, now a 23 year old woman, is pregnant with the baby of her long time crush Gray Fullbuster and she's freaking out. Join Juvia on this amazing journey discovering how to be a mother and still be a Fairy Tail's mage.
  • Comments: This fic explores the relationship between Gray and Juvia, and their quest of becoming parents and their relationship as more than friends and less than lovers ( though it doesn't stay this way for long). Also included is a curse that's been on Juvia's family for generations, and Gray's desperation to somehow lift it before it's too late. The author's native language is not English, so there are some grammar and spelling issues, but these shrink down noticeably as the fic goes on.

  • Notes: Lemon scenes are separated from the main story and can be found here and here.
  • Comment: A great time-travel story with very strong characterization. Natsu really shows his dark side when he thinks about what happened on Tenrou Island, and the harem is very well pulled off; everyone gets a good amount of time with Natsu on certain chapters.

  • Comments: Original Flavor that quickly diverges from canon, and the way that Hilarity Ensues whilst derailing evil plans must be seen to be believed. Especially when told from the perspective of a decidedly snarky Evil!Jellal.

  • Synopsis: The pizzeria sign at the end of the block was missing a neon red Z and, on yet another impulse, Hisui took a sharp left inside.
  • Comments: Were you expecting this pairing to exist? Neither was I. But the author takes a crack pairing and writes it beautifully. Set in a modern AU, the story blends the show's world and a contemporary setting very well, and the pair in question have great chemistry. After reading this, it's almost possible to see these two together in canon. Definitely worth a read.

  • Pairing: Jellal/Erza
  • Synopsis: Jellal considers himself a professional educator... but kindergarten is an adventure everyday and the mother of his newest student renders him speechless at every encounter. Kids are tough but flirting is tougher.
  • Comments: A modern day AU starring Jellal as a kindergarten teacher and Erza as the mother of one of his students (if you think her adaptional son is a strange choice, wait till you see who her ex-husband was!). It works surprisingly well for such an odd setting, and the ways that secondary characters are integrated into the fic's world are both intriguing and clever.

  • Comments: One of the greatest Legend of Zelda and Fairy Tail crossover fics. The story is filled with humor, sadness, drama, mystery and plenty of heartwarming moments. A must read for anyone who enjoys either or both of the Legend of Zelda or Fairy Tail.

Link: Mage of Fairy Tail by Tenrousha

  • Recommended by: Masterbow
  • Crossover with: The Legend of Zelda
  • Status: Dead
  • Synopsis: A crossover with The Legend of Zelda. After his defeat in Ocarina of Time, Ganondorf attempts to drag Link into the dimension of his banishment with him. Link retaliates, but the result sends him hurling through dimensions to land in Earthland, back in his child's body. Follows storyline of Fairy Tail with Link added to the mix while he tries to find a way to return to Hyrule.
  • Comments: This is not an average sent to a new world fic, Link as been in Earthland for 8 years when the story starts and has relationships with the characters and his own original story that are expanded in flashbacks.
    • A little bit of YMMV here. On one hand, it is a fairly good fic and Link's magic is explored pretty well. On the other hand, Link has a problem with being a Spotlight-Stealing Squad, often taking Natsu's fights and leaving him as a bit of a background character.
    • For me, it was great and felt like it had a solid grasp on how Link would act, until he started to talk. Once he started to actively participate in every conversation and gave up his Heroic Mime status, he started to feel like another Erza, just with different equipment.

In Death's Best Interests: A Guild's Protector by I.-.-.I Kuroyagi I.-.-.I

  • Recommended by: Epic Ebi
  • Crossover with: Bleach
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Death is impartial. It never takes part in people's conflicts or quarrels. But Death is not supposed to be human. That sole fact changes the equation completely. He got there through a strange anomaly and now, Ichigo Kurosaki finds himself in Earthland, watching over a rambunctious organization called Fairy Tail and its reckless members, Team Natsu being his main frustration.
  • Comments: Simply a marvelous read. Everyone is in character, the pacing is excellent despite numerous time-skips to highlight the main points of each arc where Fairy Tail's members are close to death (this is mostly chapter 1; chapter 2 doesn't do it as much), and the plot overall is simply top-notch. And its ending? It will warm your heart the same way Fairy Tail does. Everyone has to read this; it must not be missed. — Epic Ebi

She's come to Fiore's town of Loreon to meet a mage consultant that might help her with her inability to control her power, which leads her to have the opportunity to join the mage guild Knightmare Frame.
  • Comments: Fans of Soul Chess who are familiar with Fairy Tail should be — if they aren't already — all over this story. The author himself has stated that he is much happier with this story than the majority of Soul Chess. And it really shows. His characters are near-flawless, the fights have almost drastically improved, the plot feels a lot more well thought-out.... If you're looking for a new long-running series under draconichero's name, this is the best choice.

This makes her a target for the demons from the Book of Zeref, who claim the keys belong to him.
  • Comments: Has lots of Ship Tease between numerous characters. The author has noted to wanting to showcase as many Bleach characters as possible, so the fic is set before the Winter War.

The Death and Life of Erza Scarlet by Goshinzilla Greatkingrat88

  • Recommended by: Pastykake
  • Crossover with: Bleach
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: At the tower of heaven, Erza died — only to find that death is only the beginning. In the soul society, Erza must now find her path as a shinigami, making new friends and enemies in the process. What does her presence change? More than one would think.
  • Comments: Starts in the Bleach timeline sometime before the events of the Turn Back the Pendulum arc and moves up to canon. Some things change, and some things stay the same.
    • The fic starts off as some sort of wish fulfillment where a character from another universe dies and gets sent to the Soul Society. However, this fic not only takes a cold hard look at how poorly constructed the Soul Society is as a society, more than even Soul Chess did, but it completely revolutionizes Erza's character. She is put in situations she is not comfortable with and is forced to act accordingly. There's even a moment where Erza and Aizen are working together and it adds significant well-paced drama to a fic whose premise sounds shaky on paper. Definitely worth a look.

  • Synopsis: Bambietta Basterbine finds herself a stranger in a strange new world. Separated from the life she once knew as a Stern Ritter in the employ of the Vandenreich, she will now have to find her place in the kingdom of Fiore. However, what the volatile Quincy never expected was to discover her salvation within the guild known as Fairy Tail.
  • Comments: Starts in the Fairy Tail timeline sometime after the Daybreak arc and moves up to canon. Some things change, some things stays the same. The story was originally created to explore and build upon the potential the Sternritter Bambietta Basterbine had, but the story doesn't follow the formula of having her overpower the cast; instead, she's forced to grow and change alongside the Fairy Tail cast as she struggles to accept the ideals of the guild alongside her own, as well as move on from her Dark and Troubled Past. And she's not the only Bleach character arriving in Earthland, as the likes of Liltotto of the Vandenreich, Kariya of the Bounts, and Szayel of the Espada have arrived and have their own goals to achieve. One well worth the read.

In the middle of it all, a single question hangs over everything: Where is Kane?
  • Comments: A Herculean effort to represent dozens of different franchises interacting and coming into conflict with one another to create an engaging and heart-pounding universal epic spanning existence. It has comedy, tragedy, action, and thrills, where readers may have no idea what may happen next but are happy to stick around to see the chaos unfold.

  • Comments: A very interesting fic introducing a very underused character to Fairy Tail in a very believable and smooth way that should make most fanfic writers faint in shame. Aokiji is not an OP Marty Stu fixing everyone's problem without a hitch — he is presented with his own flaws that he works through. In fact, few characters with more than two paragraphs dedicated to them feel static. It's quite heartwarming with solid characters who won't let you down. A very well done fic that is only impaired by the slow updating speed.

Now a new world has been opened that is filled with strife, political disputes, and brand new adventures for our favorite guild; Fairy Tail. Though it won't be like any other they've had before, nor will the experiences be either.
  • Comments: An interesting story that brings in the Kingdom of Fiore to the Special Zone with Fairy Tail charging headfirst into the mess. The characterization of Gray and Natsu is excellent with their clash over how to handle the situation with the Empire. Hisui E. Fiore is well used as a compassionate but strong ruler. It should be noted that it's slightly AU to the final arc with Juvia Killed Off for Real and Gray's strugges to move on from her death being a major part of his characterization.

  • Synopsis: The Kingdom of Fiore. A neutral country of 17 million people. It is a world of Magic. Magic is bought and sold there every day, it is an integral part of people's lives and there are those who use magic as part of their occupation. Those people are known as mages. It is in this land that a familiar guild, formed by familiar mages embarks on familiar adventures, and it all starts much the same way as before, with the arrival of a familiar blonde to a familiar building to meet familiar faces. "Hello, my name is Izuku Midoriya. A Fairy Tail mage!" Okay. Maybe its not all that familiar. Well, how about we find out what else changed? Fairy Tail has never been the type to conform, after all!
  • Comments: While far less prone to destruction than many Fairy Tail mages, Izuku is such a natural addition to the guild that one sometimes forgets he wasn't there in the source material. In addition, the story is told from the perspectives of various other characters from the world of Earthland, some of whom did not get as much focus in the original story, and it is such fun seeing how they themselves perceive not only Izuku, but the other people around them. Combined with strong writing and a fairly consistent update schedule, readers of both franchises are sure to be in for a treat!
