The Blue Pheasant Flies On is a crossover fanfic of Fairy Tail and One Piece, written by kingoffire1. This crossover fanfic begins with Kuzan fighting a losing battle to Akainu on Punk Hazard. Eventually he is worn and beaten to the point of being unable to move. Refusing to serve under his former colleague, he is seemingly killed yet wakes up in a different world. His savior Ur nurses him back to health, as he attempts to find out more about this new world. Due to Kuzan's presence, he manages to save Ur from the monster who would've killed her, and is taken to Fairy Tail as thanks for his help. His slow integration in Fairy Tail has changed it slightly, as he goes about his second chance of life with a little more motivation.

Published on October 6, 2015. The story updating is slow, but it's still in progress. The author acknowledges this but has vowed to keep it going. In terms of popularity this fic is considered to be highly recommended. It has a high emphasis on dialogue, characterization, and action. It's mostly a humor and family fic with very little teasing going on between characters, as its emphasis is based more on student/teacher relations and family dynamics.

The Blue Pheasant Files On contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Badass: Kuzan was always powerful, but his new found magical power does wonders for his skillset. Ur as well, sparring with a former admiral has made her far more powerful than ever before, and to a lesser extent Gildarts benefits too.
    • As a result of being trained by highly powerful fighters at an early age, Erza, Natsu, Mira and the others are stronger too. In fact, Natsu's trip with the Strauss siblings marks his achievement of becoming an S-Class Mage.
  • Adaptational Expansion: Unlike canon Ur's motives, relationship with her students, and personality is greatly expanded upon here.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Kuzan lost his left leg during his fight with Akainu, and Ur loses hers during the battle with Deloria. Both of them replace their missing limbs with ice prosthetics.
  • Arrogant Kung-Fu Guy: Lyon, but especially Laxus. No wonder Lyon joins the Thunder God Tribe.
  • Badass Teacher: All the teachers, but Kuzan takes the cake. His teachings from rank and file soldiers, to Erza are all premediated and thought out. Ur as well S-class, and her teachings forging both students into talented warriors.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: Kuzan is an interesting zig-zagged subversion. While he is extremely lazy outside of work, regularly sleeping hours past noon and ignoring nearly everyone for his relaxation, he is extremely competent when it comes to teaching others and fighting. Ur even lampshades the sheer strangeness of it.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: The Lullaby arc goes much faster than it did in canon, with the Fairy Tail members easily taking down Eisenwald and destroying Lullaby with nary a sweat
  • Embarrassing Nickname: Kuzan hates the title he's given when he joins Fairy Tail - "Frost Giant". While it's certainly a cool name objectively, Kuzan doesn't like it because he doesn't feel he deserves being associated with the giants, who are generally honorable to a fault in the world of One Piece. It’s also implied that he specifically feels guilty about what he did to his friend Jaguar D. Saul.
  • Fisher Kingdom: Being transported into the Fairy Tail world means that Kuzan's Devil Fruit powers and Haki now run off of magic rather than whatever they did back in the One Piece universe.
  • Freudian Trio: The three main adults in Fairy Tail form one, with the taciturn Kuzan being the superego, the free-spirited Gildarts being the Id, and the reasonable Ur being the Ego.
  • For Want Of A Nail: Kuzan saving Ur and her students from Deliora, and all of them joining Fairy Tail has had some changes.
    • Lyon, obsessed with strength, joins the Thunder God Tribe.
    • Gildarts goes looking for Cana's father and finds him in himself.
    • Instead of Lisanna, Cana is the one transported into Edolas, and Gildarts soon goes after her.
    • Mirijane retains her rebellious attitude and rivalry with Erza due to Lisanna never being teleported into Edolas
  • Mama Bear: Being the only adult woman in Fairy Tail at this point, Ur tends to serve as this towards the younger members, especially the girls.
  • Mistaken Identity: When they first meet, Kuzan briefly mistakes Gildarts for Shanks. The two do look very similar, but Gildarts lacks Shanks scars, and more importantly, still has both his arms.
  • Mrs. Robinson: Ur invokes this trope to distract Laxus during one of the S-Class trials, wearing a very revealing bikini. Comically, it's hinted that she actually wore the bikini to draw the attention of Kuzan and got frustrated when he didn't respond as much as he'd hoped.
  • Papa Wolf: Every adult. Kuzan may be laidback and collected all the time, but anyone who even thinks of hurting his daughters earns his full unadulterated wrath. Ur, unlike Kuzan, isn't as nice, so her ice is twice as painful to those foolish enough to hurt her students.
  • Parental Substitute: Kuzan, Ur and Gildarts all find themselves mentoring several of the children of the Fairy Tail guild, which eventually grows into this relationship.
    • Kuzan takes Erza under his wing, and eventually Levy as well.
    • Ur has Gray and Lyon, as in canon, and soon Droy and Jet join her. Lyon spurning her really shakes her up.
    • Gildarts has Cana, Natsu, and the Strauss siblings. Cana's relationship with him is especially fraught, considering he's her
  • Parents as People: The story has a large focus on the adults' actions as either teachers, pseudo-parents, and especially as biological parents. Ur and Gildarts especially have focus on how the tragedies they've endured affected their relationships with their students.
  • Ship Tease:
    • Ur and Kuzan, which gets increasingly obvious as the fic progresses, though it still hasn't been officially stated that they're romantically involved or not. That said, they did dance in private in a hotel room rather than attend a fancy ball...
      • They eventually get together in Chapter 18, though not without a few hiccups.
    • Natsu and Lissana, as in canon. Lissana even likes to share a bed with Natsu in Gildarts house, much to Mirajane's anger.
  • Sizeshifter: Kuzan is considered unnaturally tall (for a human) by One Piece standards (he's about 10 feet tall). By Fairy Tail standards, he's a giant, which makes things very inconvenient for him in Fiore. As a result, this is one of the first types of magic he learns how to use, allowing him to walk around in public at a more manageable height.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: When Gildarts and Cana are describing to their friends (Kuzan and Ur for the former, Mirajane for the latter) how they found out their family relationship to each other, both of them start out with the same sad joke, "When a man and a woman love each other very much..."
  • Tomato in the Mirror: Noticing Cana's issues towards him and identifying them as daddy issues, Gildarts resolves to find Cana's father and get her closure. And then he finds out that he's Cana's father and proceeds to drink all of Magnolia dry.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Lyon. Trained by a S-class fighter, a new surrogate family to mingle with, and with the chance to start over. Is he grateful for the love and teachings he is given? Nope. Still obsessed with becoming the strongest, he eventually spurns Ur and joins the Thunder God Tribe.
  • Where Did We Go Wrong?: Ur questions what she did wrong with Lyon. Kuzan's reply snaps her out of her funk, reminding her that what happened wasn't her fault.
