Fanfic / He's a Hero

Go To

Izuku D. Midoriya, accompanied by Kodai Yui and Momo, set out upon the Four Blues towards the Grand Line with the dream of becoming the King of the Pirates! But Izuku's shrouded past, along with other pirates and the corrupt Marines, won't make this an easy dream to achieve.

He's a Hero is a My Hero Academia, One Piece, and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 crossover fanfic written by Supreme_king_Nero.

Now has a Characters Page in progress.

Contains Examples of:

  • Adaptational Nice Guy:
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Played with. Izuku's and Katsuki's relationship in the present story has Katsuki being antagonistic towards Izuku similar to canon, but the reason for that here is that he believes his childhood friend Izuku is dead and that the current Izuku is an impostor making a mockery of his memory, a relatively reasonable motivation compared to the one in canon where he thought Izuku was mocking him for reaching out a helping hand.
  • Adaptation Species Change: Instead of a human with a Quirk that gives her a horse-like appearance, Tsunotori Pony was originally a staff that had eaten a Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit, the Uma-Uma no Mi, Model: Ryong. Basically, the White Dragon Horse who carried Tang Sanzang.
  • Adaptational Badass: Izuku's mother is a civilian in canon (and the author's other works). Here, Inko was a Marine Admiral and currently one of the three leaders of the Revolutionary Army with Dragon and Toshinori! Heck, it's implied she's the most powerful of the three because if she were to go on a rampage, Dragon and Toshinori combined might not be able to stop her.
  • Adaptational Karma:
    • Pony slaughters an entire herd of reindeers when they get in the way of her search for a mushroom for Dr. Hiriluk. The author reveals in the end notes that those same reindeers are Chopper's family from canon, the same ones that cast him out for being different.
    • Rather than getting off scot-free to escape to the moon, Enel is found by Ziggy and his crew before he could and his daughter Charlotte kills him in revenge.
    • The giant south bird from Sky Island is never seen again after it drops Zoro to be the bait for the giant snake. Here, it does the same thing with Momo, except she comes back to hunt it down and turn it into poultry meat.
  • Adaptational Superpower Change: Most characters who had Quirks or Blades in canon are now Devil Fruit users.
    • Izuku's the biggest case. Instead of a Quirkless boy who was given One for All, Izuku instead had eaten a Mythical Zoan Devil Fruit, the Saru Saru no Mi, Model: Sun Wukong, giving him the abilities and powers of the Monkey King.
    • Vivi eats a Scorpion Devil Fruit where in canon she had no fruit powers.
  • All Women Are Lustful: Yui is actively horny just about 24/7 and has to be kept in check by her crewmates.
  • Amnesiac Hero: Izuku doesn't remember anything from before a certain point. He wouldn't even know that his name even was "Izuku" had Yui not told him.
  • And I Must Scream: Tenya was aware of everything when he was under Ms. Goldenweek's Color Trap and forced to attack Momo.
  • Battle Trophy: Yui takes Sattori's dials after Vivi kills him.
  • Became Their Own Antithesis: A unique variant. When they were younger, Izuku and Katsuki both dreamed of becoming marines. But then something happened that caused Izuku to lose his memories and Katsuki to believe he was dead. Now Izuku's dream is to become the King of the Pirates, basically becoming the number one enemy of the marines.
  • Broken Pedestal: Tenya loses a lot of respect for Present Mic after he discovers he was starving a prisoner.
  • Clueless Chick-Magnet: Izuku, natch. Without even trying he has several girls all pinning for him by the time they reach the Grand Line without realizing it until they force the issue.
  • Composite Character: The traits of several canon One Piece characters are folded into the transplanted My Hero Academia and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 characters.
    • Izuku is one of Luffy, both of them having straw hats with dreams of being the King of the Pirates.
    • Tenya also shares several of Luffy's characteristics, such as a grandfather that was quite insistent on getting him into the Marines and not afraid to use his fists as "encouragement".
    • Momo is one of Zoro, having his role as the swordsman/woman of the crew who uses three blades. Both also wish to take on the current best swordsman in the world. Momo also has a non-existent sense of direction just like Zoro.
    • Ochako is one of Nami, being the navigator of the crew with a hatred of pirates (at first), as well as having Nami's nigh supernatural ability to predict the weather.
    • Nejire is one of Noriko, as Ochako/Nami's elder adoptive sister.
    • Usopp's role is divided between Taion and Riku. Taion has Usopp's backstory of having been recruited from Syrup Village and close relationship with Kaya, while Riku has Usopp's role of being the Gadgeteer Genius who makes unique weapons for the crew.
    • Ibara picks up Sanji's role as the crew's cook.
    • Pony is one of Chopper, being the doctor of the crew.
    • Moe "Burnin" Kamiji is one of Ace, as the Commander of Whitebeard's Second Fleet who is trying to kill Blackbeard.
  • Cuddle Bug: Yui seeks a lot of intimate physical contact from Izuku.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Izuku only makes one offensive move in his fight with Bellamy. It's enough to punch him into the floor, break the floor, and knock him out.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Whatever is involved in Izuku's, Momo's, and Yui's shared past, it was bad. When they encounter a field full of skulls on pikes, they comment it is still several steps above another place they've been to.
  • Dating Catwoman: Ethel falls in love with Izuku over the course of their Skypiea adventure, but Ethel's a marine and Izuku's a pirate. They're on opposite sides of the law and Ethel is professionally obligated to bring him in.
  • Death by Adaptation:
    • Don Krieg dies in battle to Izuku.
    • Izuku's crew kills off the entire Arlong crew except for Hachi.
    • Izuku kills the Unluckies to stop them from killing Vivi.
    • Buggy is executed by the marines, allowing his Devil Fruit to re-enter circulation for Setsuna to eat and gain splitting powers similar to what she had in canon.
    • Izuku kills Mr. 5 out of outrage at him trying to kill his own partner, allowing his Devil Fruit to later be eaten by Katsuki.
    • During her search for the Amiudake mushroom, Pony had to fight off some wildlife and killed an entire herd of reindeers which Word of God reveals they are Chopper's herd from canon.
    • Chess and Kuromarimo are killed by Dalton when they return to the Drum Kingdom.
    • Ariel kills Ms. Merry Christmas in their battle at Alabasta.
    • Vivi kills Sattori at Skypiea.
    • Robin and Nejire kill Yama at Skypiea.
    • The giant South Bird that gave Zoro trouble in canon gets hunted down by Momo after the fight with Enel and is turned into poultry for Ibara to cook.
    • Enel is killed by Charlotte.
  • Defector from Decadence:
    • Tenya is a Marine who decides to join Izuku's pirate crew when he realizes that Marines can be just as bad as the worst pirates.
    • It's been subtly implied that Momo might be a former Tenryuubito utterly ashamed of her past or is connected to them in some way: Both she and Yui are very quick to dodge any references to them being princesses, Inko is furious at seeing her with Izuku in Loguetown (outright stating that to Toshinori that their "mission" was to get rid of them) while Toshinori gently argues that if people like them could have a change of heart then they should allow it. Momo also instantly recognizes Vivi in her Miss Wednesday persona, has nothing good to say about her own mother, disdainfully states that Jaya is almost charming compared to some of the places she's been to and seems legitimately pissed off that her bounty poster lists her epithet as "The Sword Saint".
  • Delayed Reaction: When attempting to arrest Izuku and Co, Present Mic goes through a whole conversation with Tenya before it sinks in Tenya is on a pirate ship.
  • Description Cut: Mio describes her brother Tsuna in various ways only for the scene to cut to him being the exact opposite of what she said her brother's like.
  • Did Not Think This Through: Taion's plan to trap pirates in a net did not take into account that swords, a common weapon for pirates, can cut through it.
  • Dope Slap: During the crew's first meeting with Ms. All Sunday, twice Yui voices her attraction to the other woman, and twice she gets struck upside her head for it.
  • Dude, She's Like in a Coma: Invoked by Yui. She pretends to be a sleeping princess who needs a kiss from Izuku while they're at Cocoyashi.
  • Elemental Rock-Paper-Scissors: The cloud produced by Izuku's Fruit is capable of hitting Smoker in his smoke form.
  • Emasculated Cuckold: Played with. Robin wonders what Kohza's reaction would be to his childhood sweetheart Vivi declaring her love to Izuku, but Kohza says their country is in the middle of a crisis and he has bigger issues to worry about rather than care about that.
  • Enemy Mine: Due to how she got caught up in the Knock-Up Stream, Vice Admiral Ethel ends up joining the Golden Clouds during the Skypiea Arc.
  • Expy: Roitenburg D. Ziggy is clearly Samuel "Sammy" D. Sigurd's counterpart in the One Piece world.
  • Face Fault: Riku looks like he's making a dramatic reveal of his dream only to declare it's a secret and flummoxes his audience enough for them to fall to the floor.
  • Face, Nod, Action: When Enel tells them to kill each other, the Golden Cloud Pirates, the Skypians and the Shandians all look each other and silently agree to attack Enel instead.
  • For Want Of A Nail:
    • Mr. 3 and Ms. Goldenweek manage to leave Little Garden and arrive at Alabasta to report to Crocodile who spares them for their failure in their mission due to the valuable intel they give on Golden Cloud's crew, which allows them to participate in the final phase of Crocodile's plan.
    • Taion going with Pell when he disposes of the bomb allows him to escape significant injury in the process.
    • Vivi declaring herself to be part of the Golden Cloud Pirates to the Marines while they were all at Crocodile's casino results in the Marines putting a bounty on her.
    • Vivi falling in love with Izuku results in her following the crew for their future adventures after Crocodile is defeated instead of staying with her homeland.
  • Groin Attack: While batting Ohm's dog Holy, Ariel defeats him by accidentally piercing his balls with her trident.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: Ethel tags along with the Golden Cloud Pirates in their Skypiea adventures due to accidentally riding with them up Knock-Up Stream.
  • Hero of Another Story: The story focuses on Izuku's Golden Cloud Pirates, but there are also several references to and scenes on another pirate crew led by "Hell Beast" Roitenberg D. Ziggy.
  • Hidden Depths: There's a lot more to Yui and Momo than meets the eye. The former all but revealed she's a princess when she says Izuku has a habit of making princesses fall for him, while Inko is seething at the idea of Momo hanging around her son and tells her comrades Momo's part of a group they're trying to wipe out.
  • I Want Grandkids: Inko tells her son Izuku that she wants lots of princes and princesses out of him. In an unusual twist on this trope, Izuku is an amnesiac and does not remember her, so he's completely bewildered when a woman he doesn't recognize tells him those things.
  • I'm Crying, but I Don't Know Why: When Inko reaches out to her son Izuku, Izuku, being amnesiac, has no idea who she is, but starts crying anyway without understanding why.
  • Insult to Rocks: Momo says calling her mother a whore is an insult to the whores.
  • Irrational Hatred: Aizawa hates Izuku at first sight, even though Izuku hasn't done anything either to him or to warrant such hatred, to the point that Aizawa attempts to execute Izuku on the spot. It's heavily implied that the reason is that Izuku's Devil Fruit once belonged to Shirakumo Oboro.
  • Kleptomaniac Hero: Overall heroic they may be, the Golden Cloud still steals from people.
  • Malicious Slander: Like canon, the story of Noland the Liar is a slanderous tale against Noland. Unlike the Straw Hats in canon, the Golden Cloud pirates see through it almost immediately.
  • Massive Multiplayer Crossover: It's the world of One Piece, but with characters from My Hero Academia and Xenoblade Chronicles 3.
  • Money Fetish: Ochako inherits this trait from Nami, eagerly nuzzling some jewels against her face. Nejire comments that their mother was worried about her developing such strange habits.
  • Monkey King Lite: Izuku's Devil Fruit is a Mythical Zoan variant called the Saru-Saru no Mi, Model: Sun-Wukong. It gives him the powers of the fruit's namesake. He later gets a staff in the form of Pony, who can elongate and shrink while in staff form just like the legends.
  • The Multiverse: While it was implied with certain bits of dialog in "Heroes DxD: This is our story" and "My Driver Academia", "He's a Hero" confirms that the three fics all take place in the same multiverse, given how Ariel, who was last seen in her home world before it was destroyed, appears at Little Garden; Roitenberg D. Ziggy being the obvious counterpart to Sammy D. Sigurd, and how the Master of Masters is looking for both Izuku and Ziggy, while Midoriya Mio, Izuku and Nia's daughter from the future of MDA, arrives to help Noah in a manner similar to how Roxas arrived at the Keyblade Graveyard.
  • Noodle Incident: Tenya references an incident called "The Defection" that is the cause of the Marines being more ruthless, but does not go into detail. It is later revealed that this event consisted of Admirals Midorikuma (Inko) and Kinshika defecting to the Revolutionaries in the aftermath of the destruction of the Agvinia Kingdom.
  • Parental Sexuality Squick: Nejire strongly represses specific memories of her mother and father figures together.
  • Polyamory: Izuku gains a lot of girlfriends during the story, some of whom are interested in each other, like Yui.
  • Red Baron:
    • Izuku gets called "Golden Cloud" by the Marines.
    • Momo is called "Sword Saint".
    • Vivi is called "Desert Princess".
  • Related in the Adaptation:
  • Reports of My Death Were Greatly Exaggerated: The people who knew Izuku before he lost his memories believed him to be dead until they saw his bounty poster.
  • The Reveal:
    • Yui reveals to Katsuki in Chapter 22 that it was not pirates that destroyed Agvania Kingdom, but the Marines.
    • Tensei is revealed in a flashback to be a carrier of the Will of D.
  • The Scream: When Ziggy deals with Sarquiss on Jaya, the latter's screams are so loud that Izuku and his crew hear it in Skypiea.
  • Shout-Out: While Izuku, Momo, and Yui are chased by Tenya in Shells Town, one of the unfortunate merchants caught in the crossfire yells "My cabbages!".
  • Side Bet: Riku asks Noah and Mio if they have a betting pool for Taion and Eunie, and they respond they are waiting for the rest of the crew before making one.
  • Skewed Priorities: Zigzagged. Momo and Yui try to call out Ethel for chasing them since a Vice-Admiral like her should be chasing big-name pirates rather than chasing rookie pirates like them. Ethel counters by pointing out that with the large bounties on three members of their crew, they are big-name pirates and drives the nail in by also pointing out how fast they got those bounties.
  • Sneeze Cut: When Setsuna sees Ohm's giant dog, Setsuna remarks there shouldn't be dogs in the sky. The scene immediately cuts to Ziggy, who is strongly implied to have a canine-based zoan based on both his epithet and the one scene of him using it, sneezing while he and his crew are looking for the right Knock-Up Stream to ride on.
  • Spit Take: Momo deliberately times her dropping of the bombshell of Izuku and Yui having sex when as many people are drinking as possible so they'd all choke on their drinks for her own amusement.
  • Supreme Chef: Ibara is considered by her crewmates the goddess of cooking. When at the Sky Islands, she captures, slices, and stores a sky sea serpent in two minutes, and deep fries a fish Robin was studying before she realizes it was taken.
  • Surprisingly Normal Backstory: Deconstructed. Mio feels that compared to the rest of her crew that have some truly tragic pasts, she feels like a horrible person for leaving her universe and that version of her family so she doesn't have to follow her father's line of work. Noah assures her there's nothing wrong with that, citing Vivi as an example.
  • Talking Is a Free Action: Defied. Crocodile would like for Izuku to stop attacking him while he is monologuing, but Izuku refuses to do so.
  • Tempting Fate: When Going Merry begins to drop from Skypiea, Vice Admiral Ethel notes her plans to stay with the crew, thinking that they are unlikely to drop by a Marine base. A Gilligan Cut later, the first thing they see is the G-8 Marine base.
  • A Threesome Is Hot: Yui loves having group sex. She gets her wish after Enel is defeated when Ethel joins her and Izuku for sex, and all the other men cheer for Izuku doing it with two women at the same time.
  • Title Drop: Vivi gives an epic one, declaring to all of Alabasta that "He's a Hero" when she talks about Izuku.
  • Total Party Kill: The Arlong Pirates are all killed save for Hachi.
  • Trap Is the Only Option: The Golden Clouds recognize Whiskey Peak's enthusiasm for their arrival for the Honey Trap that it is, but play along anyway to milk them for their food and booze and set up a counter-ambush.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Unlike Zoro in canon, Momo actually shares some of her food with the giant South Bird, and the bird repays her by hassling her for more food that she does not have, eventually attempting to fly away with her bag with Momo grabbing on to get it back. Then, when they encounter the giant snake, the bird ditches Momo to save its own tail feathers with Momo angrily shouting that she will eat it as she falls. After the fight with Enel, Momo delivers on that promise, handing over its meat to Ibara for her to cook.
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • Smoker is furious with Eraserhead and Present Mic for how far they went in trying to execute Izuku. The attempted execution itself was one thing, Izuku is a wanted pirate after all regardless of his youth. The issue was that they held civilians hostage to watch the execution in spite of another dangerous pirate, Alvida, being present that Eraserhead should have dealt with first but he was too focused on Izuku. In their attempt to kill Izuku for personal reasons, they actively endangered the civilians they were supposed to protect.
    • Izuku calls out Marine Captain Nemuri when she attempts to convince him to surrender, pointing out all the atrocities that she and her friends have witnessed and that the Marines were either deliberately ignoring or supporting (such as Captain Nezumi's actions at Cocoyashi).
  • White Sheep: Tensei, when he was alive, seems to have been this among his friend group in the marines: Aizawa has shown himself to be a Knight Templar with Skewed Priorities, Mic sees nothing wrong with starving a prisoner just because they are a pirate and Nemuri's Bystander Syndrome is utterly called out. Tensei, from what we see of Robin's flashback, was perfectly capable of choosing to follow his morals above Marine dogma because it's the right thing to do. The fact that Tensei was a carrier of the Will of D seems to be one of the main reasons he was the White Sheep.
  • Wingding Eyes: Ochako's eyes turn into Belli symbols at the prospect of getting a lot of gold from Skypiea.
  • Worf Had the Flu: Izuku stealing Shanks' straw hat should have been impossible... unless Shanks was dead drunk at the time.
